Fantastic! Excellent service. Beautiful ambience. Absolutely delicious food. Best lamb and duck we’ve ever had! A great splurge birthday dinner!
Great place to celebrate that special occasion! We will definitely have to return for another dinner!
Fantastic ! The poached lobster appetizer was mouthwatering. Every piece of "The Stew" was delightful. Followed by heavenly Opera desserts! Amazing wines to compliment the meal. The staff was very customer service oriented. Thank you for creating a wonder memory of my birthday celebration.
Absolutely phenomenal service, attention, assistance, and couldn’t rave enough about every bit of the food and drink experience! It was great to have the valet parking, and every bit of this evening was fantastic. We will be back!
Good place for an anniversary dinner. Good wine selection. Intimate setting.
AMAZING. If you’re looking for a fancy dinner look no further. Amazing food and people.
As always, our meal was excellent and the service outstanding. Our waiter was Marvin and we hope to get him again.
Perfect atmosphere— delicious food, attentive but not overbearing wait staff. It’s become one of our favorite spots to dine
We had a sophisticated dinner with an emphasis on friendly, top notch service. We actually heard each other. There is something for everyone...the newer addition is bright sport-themed clubby, and the rest remains old school, old wood dark and cozy. There are some brilliant wine choices by the glass and updated classic cocktails. The prices make it a special occasion place but we felt like we were dining with good friends. I look forward to our next visit.
After a brief google search of restaurants to try in DC, 1789 had great reviews and the pictures looked pretty delicious, but they were in no way able to capture the historic and classy atmosphere. We were immediately greeted warmly and showed to our table in the Middleburg room. The equestrian decor made you feel like you were back in time getting ready for the hunt! Our waiter was wonderful, and the sommelier offered a variety of fine choices in wines. But by far, the food surpassed any review of 1789. We couldn’t stop talking about how savory and delicious it was!
We will definitely be making this a regular stop every time we come to DC! Thank you for making our Valentines Day absolutely perfect.
Very good service and great food and ambiance! We only wished we could have sat in the more formal dining rooms we were in the bar area and it was nice but not as fun!
Great service, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere! A must visit during your trip to DC! I highly recommend the lobster bisque, and the duck breast!
My wife and I dined at 1789 Restaurant on Valentines Day 2019 (630pm).
We found the location easy (right on the corner) and were warmly greeted and served by all staff.
The food was delicious (though portions are a little smaller therefore do order a few) and the ambiance just right. We sat on the bar side which became a bit noisier when more people came in; however that is to be expected.
Definitely take the time to visit 1789 Restaurant! You won’t be disappointed!
Valentines- treated like royalty
Located in a beautifully area of Georgetown in an appealing historic building. The dining rooms are filled with antiques and beautiful furnishings. The service was impeccable with knowledgeable staff. The menu is a nice mix of meats and seafood. We had the sirloin, lamb, and lobster all cooked to perfection. The wine selection was on point and we even shared a delicious dessert. We will certainly be back to try other menu options!
Excellent menu and service. Even though one of our dishes came with the ingredient we asked to be omitted, our general impression was great. We were given a tour of the entire property upon our request at the end of our meal which was an especially welcome touch!
Excellent food, service and ambiance. A treat for special occasions.
The food was good; however, the server spilled a plate of food on me and my clothes. No one from management came out to apologize and/or make it right. Very disappointing (& embarrassing) for an upscale restaurant.
When I added the tip to the bill, I made a mistake that added an extra $100 to the total. The waiter noticed the error, came back to the table and pointed it out, even though it cost him an extra $100. Can't beat service like that.
We told the staff it was our anniversary beforehand and they went above and beyond to make us feel special! Our waiter made great recommendations, the food was delicious (it was hard choose bc the menu was full of great options) and they gave us the menus afterward to take home as a momenta. Highly recommend for a special occasion!
We ate in the new section and the Lighting is absolutely awful. Who wants bright glaring lights shining on their faces?! We had a huge wait only to see less than half of the tables occupied and they spread our 5 people out at two tables with maybe a foot or more in between so we just rearranged the table. Service was good and food was good but they need to fix those terrible lights or at least their positioning.
Loved this restaurant. Very quant in an old brownstone in the Georgetown area of DC Staff was friendly and efficient- menu had a wonderful selection of choices for both food and wine. I highly recommend it. The food was excellent as was the ambience.
Great dining experience.
We were there for 33rd wedding anniversary and everyone new it was our anniversary. Great food. Can have a very civilized conversation because the noise level is low. The waiters are very attentive. No problem parking just use the valet.
First time in the Bar room and we loved it!
The food presentation was awesome and it tasted delicious!!
Can’t wait to return
Our server was just great!!
I have been dining at 1789 for over 20 years and this was the first time I was ever disappointed in the food. It was so all so salty and overwhelming. The service was amazing so was very bummed that the food was not up to the usual standards.
75th birthday. The dinner was exceptional and we made it to the Kennedy Center on time. See you back for 76.
only if you want old world and very quiet... food only ok
A wonderful experience all around. The food, the service, the cocktails and ambiance were just spectacular. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
Everything was perfect from the moment we walked in. Service, food, wine and even my name printed on menu to celebrate my birthday.
I brought my friends to this restaurant while we were in town for a conference. The one on one service with Rafael was outstanding. The food was unbelievably good, perfect portions, and atmosphere conducive to relaxation and enjoyment. We were very satisfied with the experience and will return.
Birthday celebration
I love this restaurant. It feels centuries old. It’s nice, quiet and cozy with a beautiful fireplace. The food is top notch and the service is excellent. The valet parking is also quite nice and always on time
For a restaurant that could trade simply on its storied history, 1789 has not rested on its laurels. Food was modern, of Michelin star quality and exceeded high expectations. The service was also professional, friendly and exceptional. Highly recommended.
I have been going to the 1789 for more than 50 years. The Clyde's team has done a great job keeping up standards. It is pricy but worth it. Tuck
Took my wife here for her birthday and we had a great time. The atmosphere is perfect. Not black tie but just high class enough. The food is incredible, the drinks are great, and the staff treat you like a king and a queen. We dont eat at places like this usually so we appreciated it! Valet is complimentary so dont worry about parking. We made reservations which worked great. 10/10 I would go back.
This is one of the best restaurants that we have been to in a while. The food was excellent and the service was first class. Will definitely return.
Fine dining at a classic DC locale. The foie gras terrine was excellent. The duck was tasty but the loin of lamb was a little fatty and undercooked to my taste. The server was very pleasant and attentive
Loved the ambiance, service, and appreciated the quiet noise level.
Beautiful setting. The food was delicious. We went during restaurant week and enjoyed a 3 course meal for 35.00...amazing value!
