Even in the midst of a pandemic, this DC classic manages to continue to shine. Rather than a special menu for Restaurant Week, they kept the usual menu, which is simply phenomenal. Food was perfectly prepared; service was stellar; and the atmosphere brings it all together. There's a reason why 1789 continues to be a DC "must do."

I was glad to see this place opened again and check the new full new menu during the DC restaurant week. As always the food and service was fabulous and our waiter Travis deserves lots of kudos, along with the chef and kitchen staff.

We took advantage of DC Restaurant Week during the pandemic to enjoy a 3-course meal at 1789. Everything about the experience was outstanding, from the attentive, knowledgeable server, to the full range of menu options, to the elegant dining room with crackling fire. The melt-in-your-mouth short rib appetizer paired perfectly with crispy Brussels sprouts & delicate sweet potato puree, and the halibut with a brioche crust was delicious in the saffron-mussel sauce. My husband also loved his Caesar salad & beef tenderloin with brioche & foie gras, mmm. I recommend the black forest cake over the apple Paris-Brest, though both were tasty and beautifully presented.

The 1789 top-drawer service started as my wife and I walked into 1789. Our coats were graciously taken and the host asked about our day. Her interest continued as she led us to our table. Another staff stood at our table menus in hand and helped seat both of us. It was the beginning of two wonderful hours of exceptional service that was exceeded only by the quality of the food. My wife came away believing that the grilled romaine elevated the Caesar salad to the top of the list of similar salads in DC. We both judged the crusted Halibut as above and beyond, maybe because 1789 presents it in a Brioche batter. 1789 is an experience in fine dining.

We had the best seat in the restaurant right in front of a fireplace with fire on a cold winter evening in DC. Food was phenomenal, service was impeccable, food was sensational.

Everything from the server calling me by name, the fireplace creating a warm inviting atmosphere and the amazing food made this the best experience. I will be back soon

Food was outstanding from cocktails to entree - The Foie Gras was the best I have had in a very long time.

A Classic! Always reliable with excellent food and service. There is no place quite like it.

1789's superb service and elegant ambiance remain unchanged -- in fact, the reduction in the number of tables to comply with health requirements actually contributed to the atmosphere. Chef Eom's preparations of halibut and duck breast were fresh takes on classic entrees -- they were delicious. The Black Forest Petit Gateau was a tour de force -- ample for two.

This is our anniversary go to restaurant because not only is it a classic, but they treat you special everytime.

1789 Restaurant is just amazing! It was very cozy and the Christmas decors were great! My friends and I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday and the end of our semester in school. We are so happy to kick off our holidays here. Thank you so much too for making my birthday special. I love the giveaway. I hope to come back soon! :)

The restaurant was quiet and beautifully appointed. Next time, I will request to sit before the roaring fire. We had glasses of wine--the Stolpman Sirah & a top rated Cab Sauv from Napa. Excellent. I had the pheasant ballotine with fois gras and the veal tagliatelle. Both superb. In fact, I had leftover tagliatelle and brought it home to eat for lunch the next day, and it really made quite a good impression. My dining partner had the filet mignon with fois gras--divine. The dessert, a black forest cake pastry was a work of art and tasted like art--fine culinary art. I love this place--the maitre d' was very knowledgable and had a good personality. Wow, I have never eaten here after all these years--and now I will be a repeat client. Very impressed!

The food was great, and the staff helped us pair appropriate cocktails and wines with each dish. The staff were very accommodating, and the décor resonated with the 1789 theme. Absolutely recommended.

1789 always has been one of my favorites and I never thought it could actually get better!! Had the chance to have an amazing dinner after their reopening under the super talented Chef Kyoo Eom. The NANTUCKET BAY SCALLOPS were amazing and the ROAST RACK OF LAMB was probably the best I ever had. Can’t wait to go back and try out the rest of the menu and enjoy the amazing experience that all the staff provides you from the moment you enter the building. Well done and congratulations!!!
PS: I felt super safe when it comes to Covid Era. They are definitely providing you with a safe environment.

Have not been in quiet some time. Brian was fabulous ,very helpful in guiding us .The Chefs new creations where great some classic's some new.
Halibut was cooked perfect ,cant wait to go back.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner here. Being in a restaurant, away from our families we were excited to find this place. It was a great experience and we felt like we were in our family dining room. Our server and the Sommelier were amazing!! And the sommelier was an expert in Bordeaux wines 😊😊😊

Hard to beat the ambience and location for this Georgetown classic. Great food too, to be sure, and loved the optional addition of Truffles this winter. When the bar area re-opens, will be even better.
