They did a great job making the birthday dinner feel special!
Amazing! We are from Las Vegas so we are spoiled, yet this restaurant surpassed any restaurant we have gone to in Las Vegas.
Great wait staff they were amazing with recommendations! Very polite and knew the menu personally
The service was impeccable. The food was imaginative and yet familiar. And the setting was elegant and comfortable.
Since my wife is extremely allergic to garlic we specifically asked the waiter to point out which meals did NOT contain any garlic. After he went into the kitchen to check with the chef, we thought we could trust his recommendations. Unfortunately we were wrong.
It's a pity. I actually enjoyed the food, service and the atmosphere at the restaurant.
My brothers and I took my mother there for her 85th birthday. Great food, good service, nice ambiance. Definitely recommend it.
Thank god there is still a place with class and people can behave with class. It is a breath of fresh air and we will return again.
A wonderful meal in a beautiful place. A fantastic and ambient place to dine. Thank you!
Hubby and I had our weekly "date night" here, as we often do. Food was excellent, as always! Loved the beef tartare and the salmon. However, the amuse bouche was not at all amusing... in fact, it was utterly ridiculous. A mini pat of butter with a sliver of a radish does not qualify as anything but a pitiful joke. It would have been better if there had been no amuse bouche served at all. What was chef thinking?!? Aside from that, we will definitely be going back because the food is always delicious, the service is always excellent, and we very much like the environment.
This was my second time visiting this restaurant. I was very pleased this time. I had the seabass, which was excellent. My wife had the sirloin. She remarked that it was one of the best, if not the best steak she has had. The desserts are small. I like this, but others who like to share may not.
Felix did a great job as our server. We had good conversation about wine and food.
Friends and business.
It was my wife's birthday. The only thing better than the service was the food. It was a truly great experience. Thank you to the entire team.
Table was not ready so had to wait at the bar. Service was pleasant and efficient. Me seafood meal was well prepared. However, the noice levels from some tables were excessive for a fine dining experience. The ambience therefore made good food into an average experience.
What an amazing experience and meal! From drinks and great hospitality with our attentive bartender, Sean, to start the night to a fun and tasty meal served by the amazing Phillip, my wife and I had a blast. The atmosphere and food were all top notch, and we will DEFINITELY be back. Thanks to the entire 1789 Restaurant staff for such a special dining experience.
Service was unparalleled and everything we ate and drank was excellent. Everything about the evening was special.
I was grateful that the staff graciously relocated us in the dining room after an unpleasant encounter with a loud, offensive diner at the table next to us. It made the rest of our evening much more enjoyable. As always the food was wonderful.
The food is delicious but portions are not large so order accordingly, particularly if you have a big appetite. The ambiance in certain rooms is a bit disappointing.
My family and I came here for Easter brunch on April 1. My reservation was at 3:30pm but we got to the city a little earlier so I called the restaurant to ask if we could move up the reservation to 3pm. I'm not sure what her name is, but she was working the reception area at the restaurant and she was VERY rude. Upon arrival she displayed her rudeness with her co-workers but they did not seemed phased (maybe she's always like that and they're used to it), either way it doesn't excuse her behavior. Before we sitting us and a couple more families were standing waiting around in reception area and this young lady was not being professional as to how she was talking to her co-workers. You never know who is watching, and I wasn't impressed by her behavior.
As for the restaurant, the meal I ordered was average but the food my family had was really good! Our servers were exceptional! I will definitely come back and recommend this restaurant.
Easter Brunch.. our server was not focused on us. Infrequent table visit—long time to place our order, never checked in after meal was served. Normally great experience, unfortunately not this time.. (he was too busy?)
Beautiful setting for Easter Brunch, ok food, not that great of service (other than waitress who was great).
The perfect spot to celebrate Easter brunch on a chilly early April Sunday. The elegant decor is charming and the fireplace is warm and homey. The meal was served on crisp linen with Herend China and sparkling crystal. Our food was photo ready and tasted even better.
We thought the service was excellent. They are not usually open for brunch, but we attended a special Easter brunch. They had an Easter bunny greeting the kids with chocolate. The kids and adults had a wonderful time. The food was unforgettable. We sampled a number of things on the menu. Each item was spectacular. My only complaint is that we arrived when they were opening and it seemed as if it took a little while for the restaurant to warm up. Otherwise, it was amazing.
Orribile Novell Cusine not worth the money
Excellent restaurant and high quality. Little bit expensive but excellence service and food. Recomendad 100%
Excellent food and exceptional service. Will come back again.
To celebrate My boyfriend’s birthday, the staffs are all nice, they even write the “happy birthday” on the dessert plate.
Quiet lovely corner table. Really fabulous service with jus the right measure of attention without hovering. The fish was rare and well presented. Meals are not large which is usually perfect.
Excellent food and service with a great ambience. I highly recommend the 3 cheese appetizer and banana pudding dessert.
The service and the food were outstanding as usual. The staff was informative regarding the entrees, attentive to our needs and offered great service. I will come again when I am in town.
We arrived 30 minutes early to sit in the new bar and have a cocktail. The bartenders were friendly and the atmosphere great for pre-dinner or meeting some friends. Our server, Michael, was very professional. We didn’t feel rushed at any point. The food was incredible as we sampled the lamb, duck, salmon, pasta and other delicious items. Very comfortable atmosphere in beautiful and historic part of town.
We went there to celebrate my parents' birthday. It was a very pleasant experience from beginning to the end. Waitress was warm and informed our celebration. Menus with 'happy birthday' was handed to my parents and given as souvenirs companies with very taste hazelnut truffels. This is my second visit and I would definitely recommend this hidden gem to every friend!
Meal was a mix of reviews. The cheese board and clam appetizers were amazing. The majority of entrees were as well except for two filets which came out cold . When reheated they became well overdone . Waiter was nice to remove from check but over all disappointed in preparation
Waited for my husband at the bar. Bartender, Bob, was easy to talk to and made me a perfect Americano. Service at our table was very well timed. Food was excellent- striped bass for me, duck for my husband. Perfect date night. Will definitely return.
Not just a meal but an experience. The best dinner we have had in recent memory to include service, atmosphere, and (of course) delicious cuisine. I will recommend this as a special destination for a memorable evening to friends or family visiting D.C. It will not disappoint.
One of the best restaurants in the DC area for many years. New chef means lots of new dishes to try. The artichoke and goat cheese bisque is amazing. Note to Open Table users: "standard" means you are reserving in the traditional formal dining room. "Bar" means you are reserving in the newly expanded very chic but less formal dining area.
We visited 1789 for a birthday dinner, and their attention to detail made the evening so special! The staff wished my boyfriend happy birthday from the moment we walked in the door, and had special touches throughout the night (a birthday card, chocolates, special dessert). It was wonderful and the perfect place to celebrate!
Joanna was the quintessential server! She is a delight and bonds with every guest! There were delays but out of her control and she remained calm and always attentive. The food was absolutely wonderful! I was celebrating my 58th Birthday and 1789 made me feel special - only great things to say!!
The staff couldn't have been nicer. From our first encounter with bartender (went to wrong entrance) who walked us over to restaurant (first timers), everyone was lovely & server was above & beyond & made a fuss about it being our anniversary. When we arrived I noted the fireplace wasn't aglow & someone read my mind because within minutes it was lite. The ambiance is classic & cozy & the meal was exceptional.
I made this reservation for my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. They raved about the excellent food, the extra special service, and the lovely setting. Their wait staff made them feel really special, and the restaurant has nice “extras” for celebrating couples. Two thumbs way up!
