Amazing food!! Friendly, fun, attentive service by Christian. Christian was also great with recommendations and accomodated some food allergies. Great place to celebrate our son's college graduation.
Unfortunately, we were seated at the very first table as soon as you enter the restaurant. Needless to say the constant rush (and I mean constant) of waiters and waitresses rushing past our table made for a less than perfect evening of celebrating our son's graduation from Georgetown. Food was excellent as usual, as was the service. We'll be back as our son will be attending Georgetown Law but will ask for a better table!
Sit on the bar side! The additional menu items were great!
Outstanding; top flight service and quality all around.
Very Old Washington feel. Food and drinks were delicious. One of our group got a too tough, too well done beef tenderloin and they replaced it immediately and pleasantly.
Outstanding menu and service. I have a new favorite place in DC.
We visited 1789 fro our son's graduation from Georgetown and it was such a special venue to mark this occasion. The attention to detail was evident in every way, and we were so pleased with every aspect of the meal. We look forward to coming back to make another event in our family's future!
1789 was so classy, my friend and I loved it so much!
Great food, wait staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. Great experience.
Great place. Always stop in when in DC. Rack of lamb was perfect
Historic and charming building, most personable, friendly wait staff. Food presentation and taste was grand. Lovely evening....will certainly revisit and spread the word.
Wonderful Mother’s Day brunch in a lovely setting with delicious food and attentive service
I knew from past visits that the 1789 would be wonderful for a Mothers' Day brunch with friends - it was!
Moreover I left my rain hat there; the staff found it and is mailing to me in California! Thank you!
Love the car park service atmosphere was private would recommend
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Old world and classic ambience. The platong was gorgeous, i really enjoyed the aspergus soup.
1789 was excellent! Andrew(?) answered the phone when I had to put on a special request for my in laws, and happily set everything up. When they got back, they said everything was perfect, from the food to the service.
Awesome service and great tasting food
The tasting menu was superb. Knowledgeable staff, able to accommodate gluten free request.
We went to 1789 to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary and mom’s 80th Birthday. It was truly a wonderful dining experience from beginning to end. We ate in the main dining room (bar and rooms look nice too but for special occasion this is the place to sit). Our server and the entire staff treated us with extra special attention given the occasion and even printed menus customized for them!
Food was so incredibly delicious and a absolutely perfect. Every dish we ordered came out exactly as described with every ingredient incredibly fresh and flavorful and cooked exactly as each of us wanted.
We ordered a special cake in advance - also amazing. Highly recommend 1789 for a special celebration if you want to splurge. Thanks to everyone there. My parents were thrilled.
1789 Never disappoints. Service was excellent and we loved the 1789 Sidecar cocktail - a different take on an oldie.
gracious staff courteous and attentive
old style charm with and expansive menu
great bar for a few after dinner drinks located in a quiet area of Georgetown
Whenever we are in DC we never miss an opportunity to dine here - it is a wonderful way to start any stay in our Nation’s Capital
Food was excellent and our server was also excellent and could describe any dish in detail.
Here for conference. Cute place, great drinks and food. Fresh and tasty. Would come back !
The meal was an incredible experience from start to finish. The wait staff was always present at the perfect time. It was definitely an evening to remember.
It was wonderful. The food was delicious and well seasoned (nothing lacked seasoning, which I find rare).
We had the foi gras torchon, the poached lobster, scallops and rack of lamb (all amazing). The only recommendation that I have would be to serve the rack of lamb with a sharper non-serrated knife. The meat was medium to medium-rare, which we LOVED, but can really get butchered by a serrated blade as it becomes more raw toward the center. It was difficult to slice off the rack without mangling it. The staff were very friendly and dinner came with a little history lesson :)
It needs a re-fresh. The ambiance was dusty and old. It could have been fresher for a restaurant with a reputation. The food was okay and so was the service. Truly nothing special stood out.
Easter menu was very good. Ham for traditionalists and seafood plus for others!
Service and ambiance were wonderful, and the quality of the food was absolutely fine. Our party was disappointed in the portion proportions, and the flavor of the food was somewhat lacking. Overall, for the money, there are plenty of other options available with better food.
Meticulous service. Creative and memorable menu.
We were there for the Easter brunch on Sunday morning. Our family was disappointed with the service. We thought this would be a more family-friendly event.
I’ve dined there several other times for dinner with no complaint but I do not recommend 1789 for Easter brunch, esp if you have children.
lovely ambiance and traditional. Narrow staircase can be daunting. Service was excellent; drinks, bread, and dessert were excellent. Brunch was nice.
It was my parents 45 wedding anniversary and their first time to 1789 so I was excited to see how they would react. The waiter was phenomenal and told us in detail how each dish was composed. Just outstanding food and service. My wife and I have been back a few times and will continue to go back for dinner. Side note- not necessary but it would be nice to offer the theater menu again.
Incredible food, service and ambience in a beautiful and really interesting restaurant in Georgetown. The prices are high, making this a special occasion restaurant - but for any special occasion this is really exceptional. The restaurant provided a customized menu and birthday card as a final touch.
No hay ambiente joven de Georgetown
Cumpleaños no cantaron
Porciones muy pequeñas
The tables in the main dining room are too close together.
The experience of the restaurant was grand and the courtesy and kindness of the staff topped the food.
My husband is handicapped and everyone went out of their way to make his evening incredible! Bravo!
Good, but not great, which was disappointing given the great location and its history. The decor was stupendous, but the menu needs to escape the past and continue to lighten up. There were a couple issues of execution (medium came out as medium rare, couple of service misses), which one wouldn’t expect given the reputation. The wine list is an opportunity waiting to happen and needs attention/breadth. Nice for taking your student out for a nice meal away from the dining hall, but a short hop to Dupont makes a world of difference in dining.
Awesome Food. Great wine and cocktails. Cant wait to come back soon!!
