We had one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Everything was excellent and beautiful presentation and service. Very attentive, but not intrusive. Wish the menu had a few more choices or was changing seasonally.

I made a reservation to celebrate the engagement of my fiancé and I. I requested multiple special accommodations to which they went above and beyond to make our day special. They referred me to a flower shop so that I could have flowers delivered to which they set beautifully on the table. They gave us a very romantic spot in the dining area. I was able to reserve a special bottle of champagne that they recommended which was delicious! They even customized a personal menu that said “Congratulations on your engagement!” Our server was phenomenal as well as the staff overall! The food was stupendous as we both ordered the three course chefs menu. A special thank you to the staff for helping me plan this special day! My fiancé and I couldn’t have had a better experience!

A true staple to the city. The food and staff are always exceptional. I love when a chef manages to marry art with food, but make it taste like grandma made it. That is when you know you're in good hands.

Cannot rave enough about this very unique Georgetown experience. A legendary restaurant that has maintained it's very special ambience but has had a culinary transformation with new chef. The food was outstanding with beautiful presentations! We are not traditionally duck eaters but tried it because the preparation was so unique. The 3 of us agreed that we were so glad we did!
Our waiter Don was outstanding as well. Very knowledgable about the wine, the food and very welcoming. You feel as though you've been welcomed into someone's home for a special evening. We can't wait to return!!

Nothing particularly wrong, but nothing great either. Had sea bass and lamb rack and both were uninspiring. Same with appetizers. For the price you expect exceptional, but what you get is average.

Top Notch dining experience will definitely be back to try the duck and the octopus. Where to start ? Our server Jesse ( or Jessie) was perfect ( always important) it felt like the entire staff was part of our dining experience extremely attentive and knowledgeable all the way around. The food/ beverages were the only thing better than the service, cocktails had wonderful aromas and flavors, the wine list is super approachable if you know what to look for as well there are some really enticing ways to compliment your dinner. The food was awesome definitely get the tartare Amusbusch (spell check) it was a monster smash hit. The prawns were incredible the pheasant is incredible, the entrees came straight down from heaven. The lamb was impeccably executed as well as the tasting menu waygu shortrib best shortrib I’ve ever had in my life ! Great work cheers to the chef and the staff will 100% return and send as many as I can your way! I never take photos at dinner this is probably the closest I’ve ever gotten to breaking my rule. 10/10 , 20 stars.

Fantastic food and exceptional service, now reimagined in this wonderful DC establishment.

It was our anniversary. They gave us Happy Anniversary Menus, put it on the restaurant menu and put it on our lovely dessert. The wait staff was so welcoming. It was a superb evening!

This was one of the best meals and experiences I had possibly ever. The service was outstanding along with the food.

The food was beautifully presented, but was surprisingly disappointing in terms of flavor. The lamb was tender but bland. The deserts were the best part. The staff were friendly and fairly attentive, although the deserts took an overlong time to arrive - leaving the feeling that maybe we had been forgotten. The restaurant was careful to follow covid protocols, which we appreciated. The setting and decor is perfect for a special occasion.

A really special place

We had Easter brunch at 1789 and have been many times pre-covid, it was just as lovely and maybe even better than before! Our server Jack was excellent and we highly recommend the Cherry Blossom Pisco a creation of their bartender while they last!

Thought atmosphere was was stiff - my dish was very good but my husbands choice - duck- as undercooked and chewy. Neat place but too expensive. Okay but overpriced. Sorry.

Everything was perfect

Loved our experience at 1789! We were celebrating my son’s 11th birthday. While not a restaurant for children (ours were very quiet and well behaved), 1789 went out of their way to make our experience exceptional. We loved every minute of our dinner.

So did not have Tom Siestma's experience. This is supposed to be a great restaurant. It was not on Saturday night. A great restaurant does not bring out the wrong entree. A great restaurant does not serve an excellent dish ( halibut) with an average dish (monkfish) A great restaurant does not bring my birthday treat to a neighboring table who had no idea why they got it. We are provided with an alternative not the cheesecake that the next table got. We went ahead and ordered the cheesecake to go--and we got charged for it. A great restaurant would not do that.
So rather than getting all excited about good reviews--it might pay to focus on making the dining experience good for any customer..

The food and service were excellent. It's expensive, but well worth the money.

Service was solicitous & knowledgable. Both cocktails were very good the Milk Punch dessert drink was interesting & deceptively strong. Butternut soup was excellent. Wasn't too thrilled with the other two small dishes. Halibut was moist with crisp crust. Loved the dessert.

High expectations from a long-established icon with new chef were colored by experience. The ambiance is better with less crowded environs, and service was not quite as attentive as a result of apparently less staff. Some hits and some misses among the new cuisine-risotto a bit too al dente and fish overwhelmed by accompaniments. Dessert was luscious and quite satisfied this chocolate addict.

This is a great restaurant with a wonderful ambience, perfect service and reliably great food.

My parents celebrated their 49 anniversary at 1789. The restaurant made personalized menus and name cards saying happy anniversary for them and made the evening incredibly special. The 1789 always has wonderful food and a lovely ambiance.

Quaint, quiet atmosphere with stellar service and better food. Bartender knows how to make a solid old fashioned and I only wish I saved room for dessert. 5 stars.

Food was quite good, atmosphere was relaxing, service was mediocre.

This is the first time we have dined at 1789 since before 2020 and the experience has improved. We had the wagyu tartare and crispy lobster to start, duck breast and sea bass entrees, and passionfruit tart for dessert. The dishes were executed beautifully (and delicious!) and, I hate to say it for the sake of the restaurant, but the generous spacing between tables and our being able to enjoy our dinner in more peaceful surroundings only enhanced our evening. We will be back soon to try the other new selections. Bravo, Chef Eom and all the staff!

Wonderful food. Probably the best part was being in a room with so few table...no eating someone else's food and working about who was in your conversation.
