Amazing, I went with my boyfriend for our 1-year anniversary and the food was great, service was great, and they even gave us a personalized menu, a card, and a take-home dessert gift to celebrate our anniversary.

It’s nice experience. Good service and food in general. The tasting menu is great, totally worths it . We had the oyster, foie gras, scallop, and duck. The oyster was little bit not as well as I expected. But all the others were perfect.

We love 1789 and we decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a very special dinner. We tried the seven course tasting menu and it was the best meal we have ever had. Each course contained superior ingredients and new flavors. The presentation was amazing as well. As always the service was attentive, warm and welcoming. Congratulations to 1789’s new chef.

This was our Valentines Day celebration. We had dined here many years ago in our youth. The meal was delicious, and service was superb. It was perfect. We will definitely return.

I was told that “all wine bottles would be 50% off, however, I was informed just as they were opening a bottle of Opus One that all wines over $250 would be full price. I was extremely disappointed with this, but the food was delicious.

Manager was not friendly. I asked to move our table, since it was really dark, they didn’t respond to my request. I couldn’t see my food and my bass had fishy smell. As general they did not give good service so I didn’t enjoy my dinner which cost us $200 for 2. I can’t recommend it as before it was my favorite place.

Very old fashion decor. Quiet place, the food was just OK. Not worth the $180 we spent on two people. The staff is very attentive.
The reservation comments sent back after making reservation in Open Table specified a jacket "required" for men, however a lot of men showed up wearing jeans and casual clothes (that alone spoiled my night). Don't specify a jacket anywhere if you are NOT going to follow thru!!
The bread was very good. I ate the recommended duck dish and it was just OK, nothing to rave about. The portions are small which I liked but at the same time I wonder how much smaller are the portions if you choose the pre fixe chef recommended menu (the waitress said portions were smaller if you chose that option). The food is served on a big plate, which is OK IF THE PLATE is super shiny and new, however the plates at the restaurant are showing some tear and wear stains so in that case it just made food look bad. It's just a white plate, go and buy new ones please.

I loved the fact they have complimentary valet parking and coat check-in.

Liked the renovation, new bar in the old F. Scott Fitzgerald area a nice touch, Sean is an awesome bartender. Server was knowledgeable, patient. Food (Cod and bass) good but not spectacular.

We live in Ohio and dined at 1789 15 plus years ago. We had a great experience at that time and have always wanted to go back to the restaurant. We finally did, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere in the dining room with the fireplace is warm and elegant, with a welcoming spirit. Hannah was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and made our evening very enjoyable. The portions are perfectly sized. We both had the pappardelle with wild boar and wanted more. The venison was tender and flavorful and cooked to perfection, as was my husband's filet. The wine list was interesting and the wine we selected paired perfectly with our meals. It was absolutely worth the trip and we will return!

I make a trip to Washington DC annually on business. My son and I really enjoy 1789. We consider it to be the best restaurant in the Washington DC area. The staff is absolutely amazing in their knowledge of all aspects of the menu. They are extremely attentive and friendly, without being intrusive. We usually try to ask for our favorite server, Joanna, but since she was not working the night of our 2018 visit, we were served by Hosanna who was outstanding! The menu changes regularly, and there are always new things to explore. The handcrafted cocktails are also amazing. We would highly recommend 1789 to any person who enjoys fine dining!

I have always liked the 1789 as one of my favorite Wash DC restaurants, and convinced 3 colleagues to meet for dinner following a major presentation tutorial we conducted in Wash DC. They came at my insistence although wondered why we traveled so far to Georgetown when there were so many good restaurants nearer where we were.

While the appetizers and food for 3 of the guests was very good, (as always expected), the duck that one guest and I ordered was very rubbery except for a few pieces in the center of the cut. Unfortunately, no one checked at the table to see how we liked the main course once served. Thus, I must state that the service was nowhere near or up to expectations. One colleague brought an extra guest, and when we ordered an appetizer I asked the server to make it 3 scallops instead of 2, she said it was not possible, we would have to order a 3rd appetizer with one piece left over. When I said I had eaten there many times and never had a problem in the past with the rare instance of wanting something different (and the restaurant was always accommodating - and should be for the prices charged)the server argued with me, embarrassing me in front of my special business colleagues (they were not my normal business associates but special guests).

The manager did come back several minutes later with 3 scallops on the 2nd plate, but the server never came by to either apologize or say they were making an accommodation to my request. We had ordered a 3rd appetizer since we only expected a total of 4 scallops.

I understand that the owner of the restaurant died sometime ago, and the widow is trying to maintain the continuity. I hope this was an aberration. However, I must admit, I am going to rethink carefully whether to return or not, especially with guests, and that is a shame, as 1789 was one of my favorites when I visited Washington.
