We’re a farm-to-table restaurant that’s redefining what fine dining means. We work with local vendors and farmers to find the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. We understand the challenges of finding high-quality options that unique, vegan or allergy-friendly, especially since the owner has Celiac Disease herself, among other dietary restrictions. Our kitchen creates fresh food from scratch every day and can customize to your needs, so we’ve got you covered. Plus, we're the only restaurant in McHenry County to have received Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence, and our expert staff can help you choose the perfect pairing for your meal.
We are a family-owned restaurant in Crystal Lake, IL that believes fine dining is more than the very best in food, service and atmosphere. It’s a conversation and a connection to others. We believe everyone deserves good food so we’ve started a movement to do just that.

I love 1776. It’s my go to restaurant in the Crystal Lake area where I know I’ll get an amazing dining experience. The menu is always top notch and the service is *.
1776 continues to be one of the better restaurants in Crystal Lake. Unfortunately, the competition is between outback steakhouse longhorn and A poorly run 815 chophouse across the street. I know there are a lot of people in the area that love 1776, and the chefs try to impress with the menu, however I believe the execution is and has been subpar.
Excellent food and service. A little too cramped for my taste, but I'll be back nonetheless! Recommend getting a reservation (I did). No regrets!
The food was amazing as always! Tonight I tried the chefs vegetarian choice that I’ve never had, and it was wonderful. Full of flavor, filling and seasoned perfectly! I’ve never had a something I didn’t love!
Great service & food. Our server did a great job explaining & suggesting options for my wife who has several food allergies. Thank you
Outstanding food and service. We have never had a bad experience at 1776.
Great food! Nice and quiet. There is never any rush here, so you can just relax and enjoy the food and wine.
I loved this restaurant last time we ate there and love the gluten free concept with a wheat allergy. This time everything was only average. We were seated in the center of the restaurant in front of kitchen door which was overstimulating for my liking. We asked to move twice and were told no despite reservation asking to be in quiet and less central location. Things improved as the evening went on. Server was nice and pleasant. Yet the halibut special was plain and overpriced and bread that I had been looking forward to was never served. Hoping this was just a one-off in experience. That being said, my husband and I will pick another local restaurant next date night.
Absolutely an amazing dining experience for us all. So delicious and fresh. The service was fantastic and we can’t wait to go back. Love it!!!!!!
Hi, i hosted a party of 7 last Friday evening. Some good (filet of beef), some so-so (thin crust pizza appetizer, and well, actually bad (lamb shank, calamari drizzled in balsamic yeeech, and an awful root-beer braised short-rib.)
Rather than make a fuss, i ordered more cocktails and 2 bottles of nice wine @$80 per.
When the bill came to $485 I tipped a c-note.
Funny, I didn’t get as much as a thank you from my wait staff people.
However, 1776 gets big kudos for white table cloth, nice interior. They always seem to have a full house when i get there.....
It is surprising to find a sophisticated establishment like 1776 in the far northwestern suburbs. I would expect a knowledgeable foodie would expect to find this level of excellence in the Naperville neighborhood if not Chicago. Bon appeteit
The server was great, however she was the only one. Food was slow, kind of cold. Little pricey for the wait.
Great family dinner. Great service!
Excellent, our favorite restaurant. We try to come here every month, highly recommend to everyone. Our 5 year old has celiac and never has an issue and to be honest, you can’t even tell the food is gluten free. They changed the menu all the time. Great people, awesome owner.
This restaurant is sort of "off the beaten path" but well worth the drive. Every aspect was extraordinary. From the bartender to the server, we felt like special guests in someone's home. The menu items are all
just a bit unique and our server took the time to explain the ones we asked about beautifully and patiently. She was amazing overall. Every food item I tried was delicious and the presentation was artful. Dry aged steak was a real "Wow." Never encountered a flight of 3 soups before anywhere. Yum. Extremely relaxing with just the right amount of quiet conversation going on. I'd go back tomorrow!!
We celebrated a Birthday at 1776. Great Food! Great Service! Great Ambience! Will definitely eat and celebrate at 1776 again!
Took my son's out for a mother son date! Staff was phenomenal and got kids drinks and food out quickly plus spent time chatting with the kids. The scallops were cooked perfectly and so was the salmon! The boys gobbled up the fish and it was great that the kitchen catered to the fact that one son is lactose intolerant for the preparation of the fish, veggies and dessert!
Food and Service were outstanding. The staff was very accommodating.
1776 never disappoints! I'm not sure why we don't go here more often.
Go for the food not the service. I felt our waiter was just promoted from busy boy to wait staff. Let's just say we spent more time waiting for him then ever being helped. Three times we asked another waitress for what we needed. When he totally didn't place our steak order I knew we were in trouble. Comping someones dinner doesn't make up for bad service. Can't say enough about the bad service.
Food is worth the trip. I HOPE you get a better waiter.
A dedicated gluten free kitchen with absolutely amazing food and some really good deals. Monday had some half price nosh items that were definitely full flavor items. If you’re gluten free or know someone who is, I can’t think of a better Xmas present than a gift certificate to 1776! Right now you can get an additional $20 when you purchase a $100 gift certificate.
Always great !
What a wonderful place can’t wait to go again such a wonderful experience and away from the big city !The staff the food hands down top notch loved it !!!!
Excellent meal as always. Service was very attentive and helpful.
This restaurant is outstanding! Having celiac disease limits me to where I can eat out, especially for a nice date night with my husband. The entire menu is gluten free, including dessert, and everything on the menu is absolutely delicious! My husband is not gluten free and loves everything he's ordered. We've been there multiple times and every service/meal is outstanding! In addition to the food, the staff is very friendly and incredibly attentive. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!!!
Service and food were phenomenal!! Chef Eric is amazing and our server Sarah was extremely attentive!
1776 is a great place for a special occasion or an evening out. Food, atmosphere and staff are outstanding.
Great place...half price wine nice. Food good. Service great. Noisy.
Comfortable, quiet, great service. Food was delicious but there is a twist. It aint normal and very eclectic. There is normal filet on the menue but most is wild game, foul or fish. I is not Italian so forget that. Everything is outstanding and well worth the experience.
This was a second visit and it was again outstanding. Granted it is a bit expensive but worth every cent. I actually live in Portland OR and yet look forward to visiting this restaurant especially for the creative menu items. I will return!
We love 1776 from the minute we walk in the door we are with friends, who cater to our every need.
We loved this place. We definitely will be back soon. Great service and food. The wine was amazing as well.
We had the highest of hopes as 1776 came highly recommended. Our reservations were for 7:45 and we arrived about 5 minutes early. The table wasn’t ready. They were pleasant and said we could wait in the bar. The bar was full and there were no seats in the front, so we stood until seated 30 minutes after our reservation. The menu was different and it took us a while to decide. My wife cannot tolerate goat cheese or lamb so that took 5 items off right away. She end up with the duck breast and I had the lamb shank. Her duck was undercooked and tough. She could only eat half of it. My lamb was very good. The service from our waitress was very good but she would disappear for long periods of time. After an initial check on us about the food right after it came and before my wife found that the duck was not done to her liking, she didn’t come back. I will say that she was always pleasant and when she did ask about the meal refunded the duck without asking. We did give a nice tip. The final bit of the experience was the group of four next to us that were very loud. We had trouble talking and hearing. That’s no ones fault but the carry of the noise killed the ambience.
Al in all, the food selection was too eclectic for our tastes and the quality disappointing. But if you like eclectic and don’t mind the negatives, give them a try. .
Christina was excellent. Dinner was truly exquisite. Incredible chef and service, a wonderful way to spend our anniversary. Will certainly be back.
Service was great and the food was pretty good. Some dishes left something to be desired, but overall it was a great meal!
Everything about 1776 was wonderful. We've been meaning to for the past 20+ years living in the area. A memorable experience and definitely a new favorite that we'll visit for those special occasions. Thank you!
The new atmosphere is much nicer. The service was good. However we sat by the window and cars lights were often glaring in our face. We ordered the special, red snapper, which was terrible. It may have sat took long, but, would not have been great anyway. I haven’t gone in 20 years and won’t be in a hurry to go back. Disappointing
The food was delicious...had the red snapper special and the salmon. Highly recommend.
My husband ordered the pork chop and it was very fatty. Not a lot of meat on the bone. My Red Snapper was very good.
