Opened in 1990 by Andy and Terrie Andresky, 1776 has been a McHenry County favorite for over twenty-six years. ZAGAT rated consecutively since 1997, and winner of the Wine Spectator National Award since 1995, we pride ourselves on our service and menus. The Chicago Magazine attributes 1776 as one of the very first and best innovators in wild game dishes for the entire Chicago Metro area. Recently, changing hands in the winter of 2016 to another local passionate for the community and entertaining. The Andresky family leaves a great legacy to Rhienna and the dedicated staff and community. It's an exciting time for 1776 to pioneer into the future of Farm to Table offerings.

I love the "new" 1776. The food is fresh and interesting. The service is a well oiled machine. The only drawback is the noise level - not sure why it is so noisy.
Great place for dinner and looking forward to many more return visits.

This restaurant pays attention to details to make an occasion truly special! Love that they take the time to accommodate for special health needs like celiac.

Everything was perfect until dessert. The sugar atop the creme brule was burnt leaving only bitterness.

This was a wonderful find in Crystal Lake, of all places! The food was very, very good, but the $ value was outstanding! We went for a pre-Mother's Day dinner, and will be back for dinner soon.

For these prices, I was extremely disappointed. The food was okay - not bad, not wow. Service was very slow. Sat at the table for about 20 minutes clearly ready for the check while the waitress continued to work with other tables, etc. Won't be back.

Have driven by on numerous occasions but the timing just was not right..made a special trip determined to try it out. Worth it. Server, sorry, forgot the name, was exceptional Friendly without being familiar. Guided us thru the menu really well. Great, comfortable setting. It ain't cheap so don't expect it to be. Dress was odd....Casual to Sub-Casual to a guy in a suit..so, I guess....they welcome all.

On observation, NOT a complaint, dessert tray. Most of the "standards" and based on the meal...sure they are all good (too full, no room to try) but they looked a bit pedestrian and dry on the tray....had I had room, presentation would not have stopped me.

Worth the trip. Don't just drive by....

The waitress was great, food selection somewhat more limited than I’d hoped but everything we ordered was done very well. A bit pricey for everyday dining but it’s also difficult to get reservations so it would probably need to be a planned event. One of the nicer dining establishments in McHenry County.

The food was hands down amazing! We were seated at a table that was in the middle of the room as you walked in. We didn't feel very comfortable there so we asked to move and the hostess accommodated us which was great as we were not going to stay if we were not able to move and had we not stayed we would not have been able to enjoy the delicious meal. It is very loud in the restaurant and we were able to hear everything the table behind us said so that was a little annoying. Overall it was a great meal and I would go back and recommend to people.

The team at 1776 always knocks service out of the park. Paired with the wonderful daily specials and unique wine, it's always my go to place. Particularly for special occasions. My son turned four and my brother and sister in law came. They live in lake county and had never been. We shared a bottle of Turley and enjoyed great food. The Chef accommodated kids requests for sides of the house made bacon, homemade fries and olive oil noodles!

Excellent menu with surprising variety and freshness. The dishes are well designed and prepared. The wine list is quite extensive and well balanced with all of the main varietals and regions represented. The service is professional presented with an obvious enthusiasm for the cuisine and dining experience.

We went there for my birthday. The main reason for choosing that restaurant was for the fried green tomatoes that I saw on their online menu. However, once we were there and looked at the menu that appetizer wasn't listed. The server told us that I could have possibly looked at an incorrect 1776 as she advised that there is another one in a different state. She also told us that their website is updated daily. So I guess in somewhat of a nice way she was telling me I was wrong. We ordered the Tuna Tarta (totally incorrect spelling) for an appetizer. My husband and the others that dined with us said it was horrible. We will not be going back.

I hadn’t been to 1776 in at least 10 years. I was looking for a restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary and 1776 popped up on my search. I have dined there several times and enjoyed it, but sort of forgot about it. I know they did a remodel and new ownership and thought was looking forward to dining there since I enjoyed it before. We were not disappointed. The remodeled dining room was nice and comfortable, with a more updated look. We opted for an 8 course tapas tasting which was delicious and featured many different foods. They focus on using locally grown organic produce and use sustainable and wildly caught “creatures” and fish. We had an enjoyable dining experience and will try to remember 1776 as a local dining choice.

While the food was and always is, outstanding, the noise level on Saturday night was absolutely horrible. We were a table of 4 and couldn't carry on a conversation because of the noise. There was a table of 12 that raised the noise level to begin with, then other tables of 4 got rowdy and out of control with noise. 1776 needs to either ask these people to tone it down or do something, like fabric on the ceiling, or acoustic panels, to deaden the noise. Because of the noise, we all agreed that we would not go back on a Saturday night.
