I hadn’t been to 1776 in at least 10 years. I was looking for a restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary and 1776 popped up on my search. I have dined there several times and enjoyed it, but sort of forgot about it. I know they did a remodel and new ownership and thought was looking forward to dining there since I enjoyed it before. We were not disappointed. The remodeled dining room was nice and comfortable, with a more updated look. We opted for an 8 course tapas tasting which was delicious and featured many different foods. They focus on using locally grown organic produce and use sustainable and wildly caught “creatures” and fish. We had an enjoyable dining experience and will try to remember 1776 as a local dining choice.
Great food and service, and drinks too! Julian took good care of us!
Friendly service and fast good food! The appetizers were super! Would probably just order apps next time!
Love the Menu all dietary needs are addressed here!
Food is wonderful and to our surprise it was $5.00 Tito’s night !! Fun Fun Fun Highly recommend
One of our favorite restaurants! Great food and the remodeling that the new owners did looks fantastic. We'll be back soon!
While the food was and always is, outstanding, the noise level on Saturday night was absolutely horrible. We were a table of 4 and couldn't carry on a conversation because of the noise. There was a table of 12 that raised the noise level to begin with, then other tables of 4 got rowdy and out of control with noise. 1776 needs to either ask these people to tone it down or do something, like fabric on the ceiling, or acoustic panels, to deaden the noise. Because of the noise, we all agreed that we would not go back on a Saturday night.
Flavors less than I expected, as compared to all my past visits.
Strawberry with chocolate looks too odds ; Strawberry is too big and the chocolate is too thick, looks weird.
Dinner with my 16 year old daughter
Great food, great service. Thanks to Wendy for once again taking great care of us.
My wife and I went here with another couple to celebrate her Birthday. I ordered the mixed grill special featuring 3 types of meat. Everything was cooked perfectly, and both ladies really enjoyed the mushroom soup. All four of us were very pleased with the food and the service.
This had been my first visit to 1776 since the redesign - and the space is spectacular. It feels more open, and polished, and it is a welcome, beautiful change.
Great menu - local selections
Attentive to pace of diners, moving through courses at appropriate time
No party room, but they offer hosing a "private party" - noise levels and access to bathroom impede enjoyment and make regular diners uncomfortable
1776 was always great but the new owners have taken it to the next level. Great diverse menu. Reasonable prices and great service
Have been going to 1776 for many years. Have never been dissatisfied with the food, help and ambiance. We will continue to visit 1776 in the future.
My sister has always wanted to try this restaurant so the 3 of us decided to go there when my other sister was in town. We enjoyed each dish we had, the wine was good and the ambiance was very nice. The food was the star of the show.
Our second time in two months. Really enjoyed the food. The lobster pizza is to die for. I absolutely recommend it. Not a fan of goat cheese, so they subbed provolone. My husband got the Butt Steak again and both times has been magnificent. Totally recommend his place for great, locally sourced food.
This is the second time we've been to 1776 wince the new owners reopened. As vegans, McHenry County has had a real dearth of choices, and mostly it was a "make due" situation. 1770 actually have several delicious vegetarian options on the menu. Try the Vegetarian Wellington! The chef is quire familiar with vegan requirements and will modify recipes when possible to meet your dietary needs. There are no vegan deserts on the menu, but if you ask, he'll whip up something fabulous for you. This past list, it was a delicious pastry with fruit and, surprise, slices of avocado on the bottom, beautifully decorated with a fruit syrup drizzle in the shape of a whimsical rooster.
We love 1776! The menu, the decor and the friendly staff. The meals are to die for, you can find something for everyone and some very unique dishes as well. Extensive wine list and fabulous cocktails. One of our favorite places for a great quality meal!
This was our first trip to 1776. We had a reservation for the Saturday after Valentine's Day. We were given the smallest table nearest the door. Even though they had built a vestibule, we still got a cold draft of air everytime the door opened.
Our server was top notch. She was friendly, accomodating and very attentive. Portions are slightly small relative to the price. I ordered the two pork chop meal. My pork chops were nearly rare and inedible. Our server was extremely apologetic and took my plate to rectify the situation. My husband ordered the lobster tail stuffed in pepper. While the flavor profile was nice, there was too much sauce and the lobster tail was completely lost. Upon the return of my plate, my pork chops had been overcooked. At this point I just accepted things as they were.
We were comped on dessert because of the inconvenience with my meal. We would try 1776 again due to the service we received but if the food is just average, we likely would not return. Also, note to management, get rid of that tiny table by the door.
Wine by the glass was really good. Had the Salmon tartare appetizer. Outstanding. Service is excellent. A regular for us in Crystal Lake.
Great fish and very good service
We had a gift certificate and decided to check it out and were so glad that we did. The food, drinks and service were wonderful. We'll definitely go back.
The food was amazing and I loved the vegetarian and gluten free options!
Great bar and bartenders! Food was absolutely mediocre. Very bland! Unfortunately the place looks great but the food doesn't even come close to acceptable.
Probably the worst dining experience I have ever had. Service was terrible. Saw our waiter when he took our order, brought us food and then our check. Uncomfortable tiny table. I was constantly moving stuff around to give us room.
Everything was under seasoned. Pork chop was dry and food was luke warm. Guessing our server left it under the heat lamp. For the amount of money they charge for their food, this is completely unacceptable.
Thanks for ruining our valentines day. I definitely will not be coming back.
Valentines Day Food very good. Fresh farm to table preparation, and presentation great! Wait staff friendly and attentive, hostess was a little rude.
Had a great lunchtime meal with my siblings. It happened to be Fat Tuesday and Chef Santi came up with some Norleans style entrees. Cajun Catfish, Jambalaya, Etouffee, and a Po'boy.
Very good food with a nice wine selection. Was a very nice valentines dinner, will be back.
My husband and I have been going to dinner at 1776 for over 10 years. The food has always been delicious and beautifully presented, and the service is always great. The new owner has redesigned the space, and the restaurant is now as upscale and beautiful as the food. The wine selection is excellent and vast, and their weekly tapas menu is always inventive and mouth-watering. They also do an excellent job of catering to those with food allergies. We love this restaurant!!!
Food was delicious. I had the stuffed poblano pepper and my husband had trout. Our server was very attentive. You definitely need a reservation. We had one for 7pm on a Saturday night and were seated right away. The only problem was our table was closest to the hostess desk and was thus on the pathway for seating and serving food. My husband asked to be moved but they had no open tables so he wasn’t happy about that. We had to park next door in another company’s lot but there was a lot of snow and perhaps restaurant parking was a little compromised because of it.
Wonderful meal, great food. Need another Pinot Grigio by the glass. Not happy with the only choice. Service was great. Perfect place for my 75th BD. We will be there again
Good service, good food that leans to heavy Midwest taste.
My husband and I had the best experience at 1776! We celebrated Valentine's day early and I am so glad we chose here! My husband has never been and it's been many years for me, I was a child the last time I ate at 1776! Overall the food was more than amazing, the wine as well!!! We would not have made the choices we did without lots of help from our waitress! She was great and full of all the answers we needed! We 100% will be making this a regular stop!
First visit since the remodeling much improved but carpeting might dial down the noise level. Fortunately the food remains superb and the wine excellent. Definitely a place for special occasions but well worth the price.
Great meals creatively prepared and kindly served. Relaxed atmosphere for a pleasant gathering of friends over delicious food.
New owners did a great job with the remodel. Great dinner. Beautiful presentation of the food.
Excellent food and service! Can't wait to return again for lunch or dinner.
Eclectic but in a good way. Nice atmosphere but still casual. Interesting daily specials.
Delicious appetizers, great beer and wine, amazing service!
The food and ambiance are wonderful. We enjoyed everything we ordered. I highly recommend this restaurant.
