Au Gratin Potatoes
We went with high hopes of a great steak since our day had been pretty rough. Being that we got there early and there were only about 8-10 people there we expected a fairly quick return on our order of 1 Ribeye cooked medium and one Filet cooked medium and an order of Mashed potatoes. Just over an hour later we received our food and the Filet was cooked perfect and the Ribeye...you could hardly call RARE, it was just raw. We were dumbfounded! Sent the steak back for about 3minutes and it was sent back out slapped on the same plate Charred to the point of bitterness and seemed to be covered in butter. They didnt charge us the $48 for the steak but ruined our night out... Its a Steakhouse, you cant mess up like that.
Don’t spend your money here. The service was poor. The steak was flavorless and overpriced. The location needs to be updated.
Liked having a nice view of the Alamo. Was quiet and food was delicious. Our particular server was okay but took him long time to bring us bread and then forgot husband’s dessert. Although he was very polite.
We had anticipated dining here for over a year, and planned to do so after I returned from my deployment but COVID delayed that. There were only two other tables of guests there when we arrived. The service was attentive and the fried caprese appetizer was really good. I ordered a NY strip and my wife ordered a well done filet. My strip was actually a ribeye and my wife's steak had to be sent back and when it did come back it was still pink in the middle. When I pointed out that I received the wrong steak, Jason was apologetic, but the kitchen and the server should know the difference between those two cuts. The asparagus and the mac and cheese were mediocre. We were offered a free dessert, but were given a 10% discount on my bill. I will not be returning.
Our server Jason was amazing!! My rare plus filet was rare minus. My baked potato was was hard on the bottom and center. The cocktails were fantastic as were the deserts and salads.
We enjoyed the service and the beautiful view. The steak was a little over cooked and the mashed potatoes were bland. We were disappointed that they didn’t have more selection of sauces for example peppercorn or hollandaise.
Never a let down! We are happy to know they are open!! The filet was PERFECTION! Melted in my mouth! With current restrictions the street was open which allowed for some great photos of the Alamo. Our waiter Jason was wonderful- attentive but didn’t hover And we felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant with the distancing guidelines. This was a evening of perfection! Thank you!
As usual a wonderful dinner at 1718 across from the Alamo. it was our 49th anniversary and everything was ideal. Because of the coronavirus we were one of only 2 tables occupied in our room. Our server, Jason(?) was attentive, friendly and efficient. I had the blackened salmon, which was cooked just like I ordered and delicious. My wife had the filet mignon, again just right. It was a fitting evening to celebrate our anniversary!
Great steak, I have been to plenty of nice steak houses around San Antonio definitely a good place to go with a view over the Alamo you can’t beat it.
John was our server and he killed it
steaks were excellent. salads very good. nice setting
Had a reservation for a Saturday early evening. Arrived early but was seated right away. Service was right up there with the best we have ever had. Food was outstanding. Highly recommend.
Food and drinks took way to long to come out.
Way overpriced for the amount and service that was offered. Nice view of the Alamo, but you can easily just enjoy the view from the street and save a few hundred dollars. Not worth it in my opinion.
Good food and mixed drinks were solid. Food was slow- 2 hours from time we sat down.
Very good food, ambiance and view. The prices were reasonable and the drinks were tasty.
It was a great night out with a fantastic view of the Alamo! The menu wasn’t huge but everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and tasted great! The service was fantastic they were quick and went at a great pace.
Absolutely amazing place. Service and food was exceptional. Thank you for a very memory night.
Experience was not all that great. Had to ask several times for certain things. The appetizer bread that was served was stale. The risotto was not cooked correctly. Overall not a very good experience.
I took my wife and another couple as guests on 14 February for Valentine's Day dinner. 1718 was superb in all respects. I had never been to 1718 and my guest were from Gettysburg PA. 1718 seated us at a front window table with a terrific view of the Alamo without my request to do so. This was my guests' first trip to San Antonio and they were duly impressed. Both the service and the meal were outstanding. The noise level was low , ut seating allowed for private conversation. I would recommend 1718 and intend to dine there again.
This was our 3rd time dining at 1718 Steakhouse. We enjoyed very good food and service. Steven, our waiter, was most attentive to our needs and helpful with our selections. The view of the Alamo out the window is an added treat. We look forward to dining there again when we return to San Antonio.
Very quiet but it was a Sunday night. Filet Pittsburg style was perfectly cooked. Our sides were delicious. Can’t say enough. Great service.
Steak was the worse I’ve had in a very long time.
Service was slow and those who ordered the salmon had to send it back because it was still frozen in the middle. Guests had to wait another 30+ minutes to get their dinner when everyone else in the party was finishing up theirs.
From the view, to the service, to the food and wine, everything was perfect. Highly recommend!
Great food, great service.
You realize they know it too when you get the bill!
Jason our waiter was top notch, as was the food, drinks and ambiance!
Seated us right away even though we were early, super friendly staff, nicely crafted cocktails, the porterhouse was cut 2 inches thick and cooked to perfection!
Great from start to finish!
Had a nice meal with colleagues and would dine there again if in the area.
We made a New Year’s eve dinner reservation 31 Dec 2019, we ordered two appetizers. My wife ordered lobster bisque soup and I ordered calamari. The appetizers were served less than ten minutes later with the soup being room temperature and the calamari was stale and cold. My wife was hesitant to eat it and we politely asked our server to heat up her soup. He apologized for that matter. The calamari was very stale but we were starving. I then ordered a ribeye which I find it very low quality and rubbery in a lukewarm temperature. My wife ordered salmon which she did not finish her dinner for it was cold and asked for a food box so we could take it to our hotel. After the food were boxed, we asked our server for a bag so we could carry it out. We overheard our server and the manager with his loud voice saying they don’t have food bag. Our server politely told us that they don’t have any bags to carry our food. We just left our boxes food on the table. My wife got stomach ache the whole night after dinner and we decided to stay in our hotel room versus enjoying the San Antonio fireworks that midnight.
I am not in a business of sharing a bad experience but for a restaurant that charges a dinner steak of a lots of $$$ should have at least have a higher standards in customer service, and high quality of food. I don’t want to write any further negative comments but for us... it was a horrible dinner experience and for the price point we paid, we could have a better dining experience with delicious food from the food vendors down the street during the New Year’s Eve celebration/ festivities and save money. We are very disappointed.
Food was just okay, but not as good as other steakhouse
Our second time dining with you. It was our anniversary as was last year. Last year all was very good. This year not so. Calamari appetizer was not hot or crispy. Very bland. Restaurant was empty so ambience was a little off. Our waiter was excellent. The lamb was not as tender and temperature was too cool. Sides were very good and dessert choices very limited but Crème brûlée tasted ok.
We came to 1718 to celebrate our anniversary and let me tell you, it was way different than one year ago. We were greeted promptly at the bar but once seated, we waited several minutes to meet our server. Gone are the coat and ties and have been replaced by just dress shirts and ties. The quality of food and service seemed to go with the dress coats as well as the flaming cheesecake. We were disappointed by the new, lowered, standard 1718 has seemed to have taken on and are hesitant to schedule another visit. Don’t get me wrong, it is still very good. However, we had to ask if there were any specials. The scallops were overcooked and small. It just wasn’t amazing. It was good.
This restaurant was fabulous! I had no idea where to have a family celebration for the holiday and picked this restaurant without any recommendation. It was in an old historic building on the third floor and the view to the carriages on the street and the alamo were awesome! The service and food was wonderful.
Location, food quality and ambiance made this a memorable Christmas night!
If you want steak, come here! The views of the Alamo from three stories high are memorable, the food delicious with sides large enough to share, and the building authentic. This is truly a San Antonio experience.
Great food view service.
This staff here seriously need trained- they should go work at Mortons or Palm and then come back and make this place great. It could be great, but sadly, it is not. There is loud piano music blaring in your face the whole time you are there. The food could be great, but again, sadly it is not. Someone in the back needs to be trained properly. It is about 60%, but they are charging 100%, because of the location. It is a strange place. If you are used to Mortons, Palm, Flemings, you will be disappointed. Do not disregard the negative reviews located here.
We have come here for Three years and every year I feel like the place has deteriorated. I probably will not go back next year.
Great view; perhaps the most overpriced restaurant I have ever eaten in and I have eaten in some expensive restaurants around the world.
