I think the food is average. I had a ribeye which was sliced very thin. Should have been at least a 1-1/4 to 1-1/2. Asked for medium rare plus and it came as medium well. Ordered wedge salad. Uninspiring. Small wine list. Ordered a martini and that was great. Awesome nighttime view of Alamo.
Top notch food at top notch prices. You get what you pay for and this was expensive, however it was one of the best meals I've had in my life.
Great view of the Alamo!
Very disappointing. Food took an hour from when we ordered and neither order was correct. My steak was served almost raw when it should have been medium and wife’s was smothered in blue cheese when that was not asked for. Side dishes got cold while waiting for the steaks to be fixed. Sides and steaks were both very underwhelming which at $10 a side and $50-60 per steak they should have been something special. I honestly could have made a better meal at home. Service was just ok, but for a high end restaurant it should be a high end experience. Won’t go back
Awesome time! View was incredible! Food very good and service outstanding!
We went to this restaurant for "date night" in Downtown San Antonio after reading reviews and looking to try somewhere we haven't been before. The bar was very nice and the bartender was super helpful and knowledgeable. He recommended a new drink and it was fantastic! We then moved into the dining room for our dinner. The view of the Alamo was a wonderful! Our server was very good, but did not give us much time to look over the menu before inquiring what our choices were going to be. We were rushed into making our choices and there were no other people in the restaurant. When asked about a certain steak, he never really answered the question and made a different suggestion on the steaks. We went with his suggestion (although he never stated the price, and to our bad we didn't ask), but it was definitely not worth the cost they charged for it. The filet mignon was very good, but the other side was very grisly and tough so there was a lot of waste. The au gratin potatoes were delicious and had great flavor!!! Overall, it was a fair meal at a very expensive price.
Overpriced, but fully capitalizing on the location. Not a place for large groups for sure. The flaming cheesecake, while cool & impressive, is $10 + $8 for the liqueur. That is a little steep even for my taste.
The steaks quality was good, but also overpriced, you can get better at that price level.
Rolls must have been old. Regular dinner rolls and the tops crumbled in your hand. Fried Creole calamari was over cooked. Just crusted flour and grease. No creole flavor. We sent it back. 8 oz filet was excellent. Tender as can be. But at 49 bucks, overpriced. Stuffed quail was cooked well, but was very bland. View of Alamo was great. Server was polite and attentive.
Great dining experience
Service was very informative
Great place for dinner before the show or a special date night.
We decided to eat there for several reasons. First of all, the reviews for the restaurant were outstanding. Out waiter, Rudy was excellent. The food was wonderful. We had a window table overlooking the Alamo. We highly recommend 1718 restaurant.
We need more restaurants with organic options. Please.
We had a group of 6 plus a well-behaved baby. The server was so wonderful even when one of my group went back a drink for kind of a silly reason. The food was outstanding and the view was spectacular at sunset. I am a local but it didn’t seem touristy at all. Despite being on the 3rd floor of the building is was fully stroller and wheelchair accessible. It was very expensive for San Antonio, but 100% worth it.
It was my first time to visit 1718 and we were celebrating my birthday. Everything was wonderful from the moment we walked in. Brian was the bartender who made sure we had a drink while we waited for our table and Rudy was our server who couldn't have been more perfect.
The 16 oz ribeye was truly one of the best I've had and I loved the lobstercargot as well.
I highly recommend and will definitely return for another wonderful evening.
The view of the sunset reflected on the Alamo was breathtaking, adding to a pleasant experience of good food and wine!
Birthday dinner for my wife in the middle of the week. Steaks and sides were excellent and service was friendly, prompt and stealthy. People-watching the Alamo visitors was fun as well.
Superb steak and sides. The flaming cheesecake was so delicious. We had great service with Tyler.
Had an absolutely amazing time here. Great service, awesome view, and of course the food was the best part.
This is the perfect steak restaurant to eat at in San Antonio. It sits directly across from the Alamo. The staff was excellent and the food was perfect. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wants the full San Antonio experience.
The food was wonderful the service was AMAZING, plus a great view.
Great food and scenery (our table overlooked the Alamo!). Service was a little slow, but not horrible.
This is not a chain restaurant so do not expect those prices. But with that being said, the food is over the top good! And the wait staff in the entire place was helpful and cheerful. Good luck finding that in a chain place.
The service was superb and the food phenomenal. We will definitely be back.
Already have recommended 1718 to several friends, our server Michael T was beyond awesome! Got a table right in the window across from the Alamo, the drinks kept coming as quick as we could drink them, and the food was 5 star!! Will be going back as soon as I can come back to San Antonio. Fantastic place!
My wife and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary by trying a new restaurant, overall we were please with 1718. We arrived early enough, 7pm to beet the crowds. We were seated with an unobstructed view of the Alamo and the surrounding area which was a highlight. Wait staff took good care of us and were not overbearing or intrusive. Food portions were not oversized, which we like, yet enough to fill us up. Although a steakhouse we ventured to the winged entrees going with the stuffed quail and the glazed chicken, both cooked to our liking. I would recommend to friends and family.
Excellent service, atmosphere and food. We will be back.
This restaurant was just undergoing a change of chef. We were the only customers in the place. The food was uninspiring and the new chef was having to produce the same menu from the previous chef. However, he/she took the opportunity to send out, free of charge, a new soup he/she was trying out so that we could critique it. It was night and day from what we had just eaten. The soup was delicious, light and subtle. The new chef clearly has a good hand and I believe should be given a chance as he/she slowly brings his/her skills to the menu. I hope the owners gives their new chef that chance.
The food and service were all excellent and with a perfect view of the Alamo. The flaming cheesecake was masterfully prepared.
View of the Alamo was great. Service was great. Food was not worth the money. Steaks were flavorless, lobster Mac n Cheese tasted like box shells with lobster stirred in (definitely not worth $30).
Here for a business trip and wanted to celebrate my co-workers birthday. The ambiance was great. We were seated by the window facing the view of “the Alamo”. We ordered steaks and the lobster bisque. It was all delicious. Highly recommend this place.
Fantastic food! Seriously the BEST steak I have ever had. Very pricey meal, but worth it. Tyler did a great job
Food quality was average and quite pricy for the quality. Service and view of the Alamo was impressive.
A hidden gem. The restaurant is upstairs and if you were not looking for it you could miss it. You should not miss it. It was excellent.
Caprese Bombs were great
Excellent staff. Great location.
The bartender was very, very rude and talked back the whole time ... almost walked out!
Overall great experience ... food phenomenal, well prepared ... BUT, ran out of bread pudding (2 of us were very disappointed).
Noise level really took away from the ambiance — there was a table closeby with about six women that was extremely loud (drinking) ... my owner was so frustrated we ended up leaving abruptly.
I was so looking forward to eating in a new spot (new for my husband and me) in Downtown SA BUT was sadly disappointed at 1718 Steakhouse. The Lobster Bisque tasted like a spaghetti sauce and lobster meat was waterlogged-like it was in water too long. Sent it back. The manager offered another choice Chicken Tortilla Soup - a liquefied mess with too much spice. My Ribeye was a serving of fat with a little meat on the side. The best things were the grilled asparagus and home made bread. Service was excellent... so was the view of the Alamo at night . the food, not so much😞
Great view, great food but the wait staff can be a little overpowering.
Amazing service, amazing food. Everything 10/10. Most places are pricey just for the name and atmosphere but this brings everything, service, portion size, food quality. Coming here again soon!
