1515 Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Thank god for good food! The rest of the experience was terrible. Four of us were seated on the second floor which had another bar and was really a place for private parties....so as our meal progressed so did the crowd of loud youngsters for a B-day party...The service was terrible. We ordered a bottle of water with drinks and after asking the bus boy for it 20 minutes later (because the waiter was around) we got the water about 10 minutes later. Since the B-Day party was gaining strength and crowding our table, the staff was serving/clearing the table for one end only, a knife was knocked of the plate on into one of our laps....no mid-meal checkin by the waiter.....
My wife, 19 year old son and I had dinner; one filet mignon with Asparagus, tomato basil soup, and Tiramisu for desert; one plate ravioli with mussels, shrimp and other seafood, and one bowl Jumbalaya. Jumbalaya way too spicy but good ingredients. Ravioli were good but not spectacular. Steak and Asparagus excellent but could prepare at home at 1/3 cost. Soup good, many tomato chunks, too little seasoning. Scallops with spicy orange glaze and onion rings appetizers. Onion rings small, heavily crusted, not good. Scallops sauteed and quite good. Tiramisu unremarkable. Restaurant extremely noisy. Service over extended. We had 1 gl wine and 2 sodas. $173 w/tip, about $50 over priced. Needs furniture update.
A friend wanted to meet here and try it out. The menu has plenty to choose from and our selections did not disappoint. Nate out server was very friendly and paired with his wine recommendation made for a great time. We our going to introduce 1515 to our other friends soon.
Food was very good with some unusual combinations. We sat in the main dining room, but the hostess kept leaving the door open between the restaurant and bar letting cold air in continually. Our server had to keep closing the door as did we and other diners. Very annoying.
Hostess rolled her eyes at my husband when he asked if we could be seated away from the front door (very cold night). Our salads took a long time, and the dressing was very tart. If you prefer a sweet dressing, or one that has a balance of flavors, this would not be for you.
My husband's seafood ravioli was bland and my "porcini crusted seared halibut" was crispy and dry. The best part of the meal was the hummus.
Small restaurant with little noise dampening. The doors between the bar and restaurant are constantly open (sometimes propped open) adding to the din, and it's very difficult to carry on a conversation.
The service here affected the dining experience here. The server was friendly, but the restaurant as a whole seemed to lack coordination. We waited about 30 minutes for our appetizer, asked multiple times for more dipping sauces for the breadsticks and received them only when the entrees were delivered, perhaps a solid 15 minutes after we asked for it. The fish taco appetizer was really good, and I was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful the Barcelona pizza dish was. My friend had the chicken piccata and seemed underwhelmed, and also remarked how the piece of chicken was tiny.
My husband and I went to 1515 for a date night!!...the restaurant was clean and had a great feel to it as soon as you walked in the door. There was a lively bar scene but we went straight into the dining room. The service was great! We shared the seared scallops appetizer and they were AWESOME! We each ordered the halibut (grilled and porcini crusted) and we both enjoyed our meals. The drinks and dessert were also OUTSTANDING! We took a chance as we have never been before and we will definitely be going back SOON!!
The restaurant was great overall. Excellent service, moderate sized menu with a choice for everyone. Entrees ran between $20 and $35 a plate. Our waiter was very helpful, and suggested some good choices on the menu as well as a few wines. There were quite a few people at the bar, and as such it could be a bit noisy. It wasn't overbearing though, and it made it feel more like a fun place to be than a nuisance.
Went there for a memorable family event not expecting too much. Our group was so pleased by the excellent food and service. The staff could not have been nicer, the food arrived steaming hot, and every picky eater at our table raved about their meal. We could not have been happier with evening at the 1515 Restaurant. Well worth going there!!
Overall 1515 is a great place with only one major drawback. They have really good, eclectic menu items based on traditional american cusine. Since half of the establisment is a bar/lounge area, they have great cocktails and a pretty good wine list. The dining side can be romantic for a couple and is also good for groups. While the noise level rating above is "energetic" I would say it was more TOO LOUD, but that wasn't an option.
The bar/lounge area is nice, but it can get super busy and a)hard to get a drink and b)hard to move around. The biggest drawback of 1515 is they think they're hip enough to have a bouncer at the door. Come on, this is downtown, suburbia Walnut Creek. While a nice hang out, the bouncer is too much.
One of us enjoyed our food very much - the artichoke chiken was wonderful. The other of us had the skewers and did not care much for them with the bbq sauce all over. The salads were great, but we found the service a tad slow - long time to get our food and then the check.
Overall, it was good. However, being close to Christmas and there was a Thursday night 49er game on, the bar was packed and very LOUD. Unfortunately our table wasn't ready, and we ended up waiting a good 30 to 40 minutes past our reservation time. Also, it appeared they were under-staffed and it took a long time for our waiter to take our orders. It was also very loud, and we pretty much ended up shouting at each other in order to talk. We all agreed that the food was outstanding - prepared elegantly and very delicous. All the before dinner salads were perfect and my salmon and my husband's halibut were outstanding. Our daughter had the crab cakes and the grilled artichoke and both of those dishes were excellent.
There were seven of us having an annual Christmas Shopping lunch .... I had never been to 1515 before and the service, food, atmosphere and the wait staff exceeded my expectations. Our waitress was wonderful. She offered food suggestions, took very good care of us and knew exactly when to appear. The food was excellent. Having seven women leave a please for lunch without one criticism means five stars in my book.
My husband and I enjoyed the food, the swordfish was fabulous, the 1515 cosmo was great as was the martini, only the calamaries could have been better. We liked the ambience which made for a great evening with the lighting and decor being just right. The service could be stepped up a bit. They were a tad bit slow even though I'd say the place was busy but not as crazy busy as it gets for this time of the year. It's really a great place for a special night.
Maybe we had heard too many great things about this restaurant and our expectations were too high, but overall we were disappointed. There was nothing really bad -- the waiter was great, the food OK, and the drinks and wine list were good. Just felt it was over priced for what you got.
Took my husband on a date here and was not pleased with being put into a back room lounge area that's weathered. It was nice to have privacy but prefer a nicer setting. Main course was substandard and steak was flavorless like meat was boiled. However, the fried ravioli appetizers, tiramisu and huckleberry lemonade are worth going back for. Would not pay for main course at all there not worth the cost. We had an excellent server who made the substandard room a pleasure to be stuck in. The other patrons around us made comments to about the rooms conditions. Ahhh and be careful with their seafood. I had a stuffed nose and the dish in a table across the room was strong smelling of fish. Fresh fish doesn't smell that strong.
This restaurant completely surprised us. From the outside it looks very small and very much like a bar. However, once you get inside you find a very good sized restaurant and a very vibrant bar scene. The restaurant itself is separated from the bar so you can eat a very gourmet meal and after walk across and open a door and have a great bar filled with fun and interesting people.
We went on a Sunday evening, and it was very quiet. My understanding is that this restaurant is quite the pick up spot on Friday and Saturday night. While the food was good, we wouldn't rush back due to the singles crowd on weekends. There are too many good restaurants in WC to try.
I had heard great things about 1515 and finally made it for lunch with a client. The ambiance was wonderful and the food was excellent. Service was good but I thought the server could have been more attentive (refill coffee) given that she only had 3 tables to watch. Her recommendations for the holiday desserts were great but when my boss said to "bring 4 forks", it would have been helpful to have small plates, too. It's kind of awkward to share a dessert with a client. I realize it's tough for servers to know the personal relationships of the diners but to err onthe side of caution would have been my prference - individual forks and plates for all!
Had a great meal, wonderful service and enjoyed sitting out in the California air in the evening. Only drawback was the noise level - but you have to know that we are over 50 years of age and most of the other diners were younger, so it probably didn't bother them as much as it did us.L. Cole
The food and ambiance are great. The main drawback would be how long it takes for the server to take your orders. We waited for at least 15 minutes before we even got a glass of water and another 15 minutes to get our drink orders taken. This would be understandable if the restaurant was busy.
