12th Ave. Grill Ratings and Reviews
Loved 12th ave grill. Started with the spectacular sprouts, want to bring them home by the truckload. My carnivores dining partner thoroughly enjoyed the strip and I enjoyed the tender flavorful scallops. Brilliant wine list and wonderfully attentive staff.
This was our first time dining at 12th Ave. Grill and they did not disappoint. We enjoyed the bigeye tuna crudo, farmer’s market salad, pork cheeks on polenta and mac cheese. We really wanted to do the Sun nite fried chicken family dinner, but we were intimidated by the BIG portions. We’ll be back for sure!
The staff at 12th Ave is one of the most personable, caring, funny, and genuine I've ever encountered in a restaurant. It feels like a community there, and we always love seeing everyone who works there. The service is fantastic. The food is comprised of some of the best ingredients on the island, used in ingenious combinations... but too salty and often too rich. Would love to see them go simpler, more pure, in their flavors, as I think we'd enjoy the food more. Still delicious while in the midst of the meal, but we always leave there feeling salt-bombed. The wine and beer list is well selected and constantly rotates in great stuff; and the cocktails they've designed are some of the best in town. Great place to take a date. Thanks, 12th Ave Grill, and well done.
First, the service, particularly our waiter, Cory, was very good, helpful, friendly and charismatic. After that, it was downhill. We were grossly disappointed by our meal. The grilled ahi and calamari were overpowered by the strong and heaping fruit sauce or chutney. The lamb should not be served with sour cream/lebni, and had no taste. It could have used a good"au jus" that highlights the lamb flavor. The scallops, though cooked just right, had no flavor or sauce to compliment the texture and brng out the flavor. The duck corndogs should be taken off the menu. The grilled octopus dish was one of the worse grilled octopus dishes we've had. Try Livestock Tavern and The Harbor at Pier 38. The brisket and homemade pasta with Hamakua mushrooms were very good. The quality of each meal cannot justify the price. This was my second experience at 12th Avenue and both times the meals left everyone at the table disappointed. We would have to discourage our friends and family from dining here.
We have gone here four times out of the last five wedding anniversaries. We were seaoted in a booth by the bar, which I really like because I like to see the faces of those working in the kitchen.
We started with the Brussels Sprouts salad and the Beef Tongue small plate. That salad rocked it!
Recommend the Shwarma lamb shank, the steak frittes; but the pork chop was a bit tough. Our daughter had the donuts for dessert and I got to try one. They are heavenly and the Manoa Chocolate Mousse was amazing!
I had the Fresh & Fiorente craft cocktail and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The restaurant isn't small, but it's comfortable and has a cozy atmosphere. It can be noisy, but not ridiculous. The rib-eye steak was terrific, so is the ahi bruschetta appetizer. The food is almost all locally grown or produced and they don't cut corners or the opposite - loading it up with unnecessary sauces and extraneous aioli or other frills.
Prices are higher than at the other 10-15 restaurants within 200 yards, but it's a great evening with good food.
Our waiter, when he was with us was awesome, but he took forever to come over and take our order then again we didn’t see him for a while. We had to ask for bread, instead of it brought out to us like normally. Usually service here is on point so must have just been an off Night for him. All good, we will return just maybe not right away.
We (Both) myself & my Wife enjoyed every thing about this resturant, the service, good ambience, great tasting food, friendly wait staff, excellent desserts, and overall quite reasonable prices for the entrees. We are looking forward to going back there in the near future.
First time to eat here. My friends said their food was overly salty and prices high for their fish, meat and pork loin entrees. Limited choices for vegetarians. But, had a very good Deep Fried Brussels Sprout Salad with refreshing blend of different ingredients. Nice, pleasant service. May possibly go again to see if the menu has become more diversified.
Food was great, service was excellent. Appetizers were more to my liking than the mains. The tako, beef tongue and bone marrow apps were outstanding. Great and interesting flavors. The brussel sprouts were good. The flavors in the scallops main dish didn't seem to work well together and the scallops were too salty. For dessert, the flourless chocolate cake was really good and the fruit cobbler was tasty as well. Overall a really nice meal.
Did not plan to go out but when we read about the SUNDAY SUPPER with HAWAIIAN SALT & HERB CRUSTED HAWAII RANCHERS PRIME RIB! we immediately made reservations. This also included Roasted asparagus, twice baked Yukon gold potatoes, cast iron Rosemary bread, Thyme-garlic Au jus, Horseradish creme fraiche.
Big island strawberry Cake. This is just one of many unique additions to 12th Ave. Grill's superb regular menu. I picked a 2015 Vacqueyras from one of the best proprietors in the Rhone Valley in France. The best Prima Rib that I've ever had that wasn't cooked slowly on the Bbq grill.
Sophisticated, but not stuffy neighborhood place. Nice selection of starters and main courses. Liked the wine list. It included Picpol de Pinet, my new summer wine! Liked the adult crowd..so many restaurants in Honolulu have lots of parents who bring their children to upscale restaurants where you would not expect infants and toddlers. All in all a very pleasent dining experience.
I actually mistakenly made reservations for the following evening (Sunday), but even on a Saturday night the front of house calmly and quickly seated my party of six without hesitation. And because dinner was for my mom's birthday, I appreciated their exceptional service. Mahalo.
