While you dine, take in the view of Japanese lamps floating down from the bamboo ceiling, or step outside into our private outdoor courtyard and lounge under the stars.
Food is about as good as Japanese food can be in Philly. Service was really excellent. Definitely one of the best service experiences I've had.
I had the amazing sashimi deluxe & an eel roll on my most recent visit. Both dishes were great. We sat outside in the courtyard on an amazingly beautiful night. Our waiter was clearly swamped but did the best he could. Overall, a really great sushi spot!
I'll recommened the Tuna Tartar and the Soft shell crab tempura... both were delicious and well done. I was not a big fan of the Dark Horse sushi roll though... the roll was fried and you could taste the soaking oil in the rice. Otherwise, service was fast and friendly.
Had another great meal with another couple. Waitstaff was attentive, food was delicous. We eat in 'flights', the small plates to start (calamari, rock shrimp, spicy tuna tartare and even the avacado salad were all tasty, well prepared and presented with care. Pork tonkatsu and spicy chicken noodles were next, and were very good. Sushi rolls at the end were shared and almost completely devoured. We were stuffed. Relaxed, well paced (because we ordered a bit at a time) and very enjoyable.
LOVE the food at RAW. First went here for a dinner party for a friend who worked at RAW at the time. This time we went for lunch with a living social deal. Best sushi in Philly and the bento box special give you a lot of food.
The layout is quaint and the food is wonderful. It was a little too loud and cramped to be considered a romantic date spot. The service was average and the specials, food and beverages were very diverse. Overall, I would definitely go back.
The restaurant is dimly lit and full of red light, which gives it a unique atmosphere. Service is prompt and attentive, but not overly so. The food is fantastic. Definitely worth coming back for.
My husband and I love this place. We went recently only to find out it was closed. We were devastated to say the least
My fiance and I went to RAW after we bought a Living Social deal. The food was very good and the service was extremely fast. We only waited a few mins for our food and it was a busy Saturday night. The only thing i did not like about this restaurant was that the tables were extremely close together. But I guess that is to be expected in the small restaurants in center city.
The service was exceptional. The food delicious. A bit pricey.
Sushi is always wonderful.
Went there on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Was really slow and quiet but the food was amazing, you can tell that on a Saturday night this place is a hot spot.
This was my second experience at Raw and was at a much busier time. My party of 2 was put in the back of the restaurant which is like the "kid's table" compared to the front. The service was atrocious and while it was a Saturday night there weren't that many patrons to justify such a long wait. I would go back from previous experiences but not this one.....Sit up front, it's a whole better world.
My date and I really enjoyed our dinner here. The service was fantastic and the food was well rounded.
Great food great place. One odd thing though--- we arrived early for our reservation and they seated us but asked if we could eat within an hour. Never had that request before. Otherwise great though.
Simply outstanding. The best Sushi place in Philly!
Overall a very good experience. Had reservations at 6:30 and seated on time and wait staff very attentive. Moderately noisy even then. Started with the wasabi pork shumai which was good but the wasabi wrapper over powered the pork. Had 2 "traditional maki" rolls which were fairly average in taste, 2 "house maki" which were very good, and 2 "Raw's special features" which were fantastic.
Go for their fancier or specialty items and you won't be disappointed.
Raw is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. Excellent food, great specialty rolls, and an excellent value bento boxes for lunch.
Our service at the bar was alright, but when we moved to our table it was much better. The sushi was tasty, and the cocktails were refreshing!!
The food was spectacular. Our waitress was friendly, but could have paid slightly more attention to us. It was Valentine's Day however, so I understand that it was most likely busier than usual. Other than that, everything was perfect. Loved the Black Honda cocktail!
My fiance and I had our first date at Raw, we also came here the night we got engaged. If you love sushi, you'll love Raw.
I LOVE raw! If your looking for a great sushi place this is a must go! I've never has something I didn't like!
My husband and I went to Raw with another couple for the first time on Saturday night. The atmosphere and the food were spectacular, but the service was lacking. We waiting almost 10 minutes to be greeted at our table and then close to another 10 minutes just to get water. Our server was very nice and helpful when making food selections, but I expected better service. This did not at all take away from the fantastic sushi we had that night, or our evening out. We will definitely be back to Raw again, but I did want to comment on the service. I am a server at a fine dining restaurant, and service is a very important part of our training, so that's the only reason why I was a little disappointed. Other than that, everything was amazing!
I've been going to Raw for a few years now, and it has never disappointed! Great sushi, and sashimi! Great cocktails! Commendable waitstaff! If you have not been, I strongly recommend this place! Just a heads up though, you're much better off with a reservation as the restaurant gets packed very quickly!
Excellent food. Terrible service! Normally the service isnt this bad! The sushi is awesome and usually the service is better so id still recommend,to others.
Food was excellent. We ordered the Rainbow Roll and the White Tiger roll. The latter was phenomenal. The miso soup and edamame were great also.
My only criticisms were how close the tables were. We were 6 inches away from the next table, making it feel like we were eating with another couple... Toy Story 3 was playing on the TV, which didn't seem to fit anything in the restaurant... and when the waiter mistakenly charged the entire bill to my card, he didn't notify me of the void. However, the manager, Angel, was excellent at clearing up the issue and she was a big help.
our favorite sushi place in philly. love it
it was a great place to go and get together with a friend.
Food was delicious and not too pricey--fair for a sushi place. My only complain was that we had an 8 o'clock reservation, but didn't get seated until 8:35(ish).
Food was good, but nothing was particularly memorable. I've had significantly better sushi for a lot less in the city and wasn't too impressed with the wait staff. The fish on the sushi did not taste particularly fresh and was served at room temperature. Overall, just a mediocre experience.
This was our first visit to Raw but will definitely not be our last. Everything was prepared beautifully and tasted so fresh and delicious. Jonny, our waiter, was attentive and top-notch. We arrived near the end of the lunch service but were not rushed and actually were encouraged to sit back and relax. Overall, a great dining experience.
To answer, Would you recommend RAW with a Yes or a No is too black or white. I would recommend it but with caveats. We've always had good experiences before but this time we received sushi we didn't order and didn't receive another sushi we did order. When we brought it to our server's attention at first nothing happened. When we mentioned it a second time, we got an srgument. We were a party of five, we were sober, we all agreed that we had ordered the disputed roll. We were almost done eating before our California roll arrived. Mistakes can happen, but arguing with the customer? (More than one server was involved in the argument.) Not good. njs
Great food, service and ambiance. Outstanding lunch value.
Great food, a little expensive but was definitely worth it.
Sushi was overall mediocre but I've come to expect that in Philly. Unagi was quite good, maguro left something to be desired. Miso was pretty good. Green tea ice cream under a fruit cup for dessert was a total flop--tastes just did not mix.
We came in at lunch for restaurant week (12:30) and it was deserted so service was excellent--we were more or less the only customers. Compared with the meal I had the next day for restaurant week, the portion size left something to be desired.
The Japanese beer / nihonshu selection looked quite enticing--I'll have to come back at a more drinking-friendly time to give it a go.
Choices were excellent for our group of four. Creative and nicely presented. We all agreed it was a great experience.
We had to ask to have our order taken, and we rarely saw the waitress but besides that the food was to die for! Really great experience because of the food
We enjoy our dining experience. The sushi was good. The server Irene was good. It appeared she was training. I may return again. My request was not completely granted. I would think hot tea would be automatically served.
Great vibe and outdoor patio with reasonable food and drinks during happy hour but a little pricey for what it is during dinner.
Great food but just 3 or 4 bunchs to much per item really adds up at a sushi spot.
Raw is Sushi for the discriminating pallet. Alway fresh with their special rolls. Their combinations of ingredients are so well thought out. They are delectable, every bight The Green River Roll is amazing....and the Crispy Calamari Salad....wonderful!!
