My friends and I have been going there for years. The service has always been great, the food excellent and the wine list very good. Everyone from the hostess/host to the waiters are very pleasant and accomadating
Food and ambiance are great.
My umteenth visit there and it is always wonderful
Buratta/prosciutto special and pesto gnocchi were delicious. Attentive staff but not obtrusive. Wasn't crowded when we went; staff let us sit and relax without running over with check after our coffee was delivered as they do in many restaurants.
This was a great find
Cozy place. First time there. Martini for me and red wine for my wife. Both excellent. Shared a Ceaser salad. Very good. Asked for extra dressing and received it very quickly. I had the Parmesan crusted lamp chop special. Fantastic. The best I've ever had. My wife had a tasty chicken dish. Finished with a chocolate mousse dessert and an espresso. Awesome food and service.
Waiters less than interested
A gem of a restaurant. A quiet respite with a warm welcome, friendly service and good food. Will return many times.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. Fried artichokes, caesar salad, sole francese and a special pasta - all very, very good. The Italian cheesecake was wonderful. the service was very nice!
Food was bland and uninspired. I tried the lobster bisque special and found it to be nothing like any bisque I’ve had before. I ordered the house special-chicken Novello, and that poor free range chicken had been pummeled and rubberized beyond hope. Nothing was seasoned. A disappointment.
We've eaten here several times over the last several years and never been disappointed. It's a family-run place, and we've seen the same waitstaff every time we've visited -- to retain the same waitstaff for years is almost impossible! The more I learn about Italian wines, the more I love their wine list -- something for everyone! If anything, the food has gotten better in recent visits. We had a 'vegetable tower' appetizer that was just delicious! Bravo!
Always a pleasure, with capable friendly staff and excellent food
The restaurant was recommended by the bellman at the resort where we were staying. He suggested it over another popular Italian eatery we’d originally planned to visit. We were so enamored with the delicious fare, friendly staff & cozy, inviting atmosphere that we dined there twice during our week long stay. It says a lot considering that a couple of us consider ourselves “Foodies” & we opted for a repeat experience rather explore one of the many other incredible dining options within a few blocks of where we stayed in midtown!
Perfectly enjoyable lunch! We were a group of 6 and everyone loved their meal. Service was wonderful!
Love this restaurant when attending concerts at Carnegia Hall or performances at City Center.
Great find in theatre district. Delicious meal
The ambiance was warm and cozy, and the host was absolutely delightful. I had a spectacular glass of Zinfandel, I just wish I could remember which one! The pear/endive salad was perfect. The basket of crusty bread was warm and delicious. The Chilean Sea bass was quite good, but I was very disappointed in the pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe. The broccoli rabe was chopped up into tiny pieces (much like spinach) and it was overcooked. The sausage was so-so, and the dish was in some sort of a soupy broth. I prefer my pasta dishes dry rather than swimming in liquid. The exquisite espresso, complete with a nice layer of crema on top, made up for everything. Despite a disappointing entrée, I really enjoyed the overall dining experience at this restaurant and I would definitely come back again.
Perfect for early dinner post theater! We enjoyed the service and the ambience.
Excellent service, Answered all questions and made some excellent suggestions.
Arrived half an hour early for a reservation and the waiter sat me at a wonderful table to wait for the three other attendees. Now that's unusual. Wonderful menu with a large array of specials as well. As gluten and dairy free, the waiter simply said...they can change any dish.
Food was excellent and was able to have a conversation comfortably. Would go back any time.
Always reliable. Our 'go to' restaurant when attending City Center or Studio 54 productions.
Nocello is a great place to go before theater. The food is better than most theater district Italian restaurants and so is the ambience. Also—reasonably priced.
My husband and I shared an appetizer of carcioffi fritto, artichokes premised in the Roman manner, which are superb and rarely served in the US. Then, I had a main course of shrimp in a delicate lemon and garlic sauce accompanied by homemade -angel/hair pasta. My husband had the vitello Milanese, which he found absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and polite, the wine list reasonably priced yet superb—we had a wonderful Aglianico from Compagna—and the entire meal a true delight.
Excellent food and a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Been here number of times and always a pleasure .Food, service, wine are an exceptional value for the price
The food was quite good and the service excellent. Cozy and romantic to linger for a date and reasonably priced with attentive service for pre-theatre.
Nice comfortable atmosphere and good food. We were able to enjoy our conversation and not have to shout - a big plus.
Restaurant was terrific except for our waiter. My wife, who has a garlic allergy, asked about a certain dish and was assured there was no garlic in it. When it came, it not only had garlic taste but you could see the small cloves of garlic in the sauce itself. We complained to the owner, who was absolutely terrific about it. He personally apologized twice and took the meal off the bill. He more than made up for the negligence of the waiter. Except for that problem, we loved it.
I came from Connecticut to try this restaurant, and wasn't disappointed. The service was excellent, the food, absolutely outstanding. A true gem. Looking forward to the next meal there.
We have been to I Nocello a number of times, usually when we have a show in the area. As always, we found the found excellent and well presented. However, on this night we found the service was off. We had a very look wait from the time our appetizer plates were removed until we we were served the main course. So much so, that we requested the check as soon as the entree was served, as we were afraid we would miss our curtain. They did wrap our desert and bring it to us while we were working on our entree, so we did not miss out on a delicious dessert.
This restaurant is a place that makes you feel at home in the Italian way. The staff is friendly and helpful, and puts you at ease from the moment you enter. The food is tasty and the portions are not stingy. The Duck Risotto is delicious as is the veal. The red wine list is extensive, the white listings however need improvement. The Berry Tart for dessert is very satisfying. If you dine here you will not be disappointed.
Everything was fine except our seating was absolutely terrible. We were basically the second to dine and were seated at the first table at the entrance which was busy with people and staff continuously passing us. That table should be the last for anyone to be seated, or taken out completely. Reservations were made weeks ago u think they could of done better. Food and service good though.
It was a nice place and the food was ok. The wine was very good. The valentine’s menu was not my favorite choice but I saw such good stars for this place. Maybe will come to this place again if they change up the menu for the Valentine’s Day.
Nocellos is consistently great each time we go there. I wish it was more often but we live in Suffolk County.
Service was great and everything was good
Very charming and romantic, and authentically Italian. Delicious food and attentive service.
Chose this restaurant based upon proximity to Carnegie Hall. Our choice was perfect as the Carnegie is a 3 minute walk and the restaurant was excellent.
Located below street level, in a long space with lots of cozy nooks. Even though the restaurant was fully booked, we felt like we were the only people there. The decor is interesting and brought about a warm feel.
Service was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing or obnoxious. A small bowl of exquisite olives are brought out along with fresh bread to dip into the oil the olives are soaking in. Everything we ordered was excellent: mozzarella burrata with prosciutto appetizer, house-made pappardelle with lamb ragu, chicken francese, and cannoli.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Nocello’s. The staff was engaged and friendly. The ambiance was rustic and warm. Our food arrived in a timely manner well prepared and most importantly hot and steaming. Portion sizes were generous. The wine list was amble and appropriate to the cuisine offered. The desserts were more than worth the caloric cost. Highly recommend this gastronomic gift in the fifties to all who want a special night of indulgence and dining.
A wonderful surprise in the theater district. Food was authentic and completely delicious, the ambiance atmospheric, dark and romantic and the service was very concerned and gracious. A definite keeper!
Got there right on time when they opened with a reservation. Sat right away and it was a relaxing meal. Difficult to get the check at the end but attributed that to it being not very crowded. Dinner was really good though.
