Darbar used to be better. All dishes were way too spicy even though we specified « mild ».
wow.. the service was better than the food. Please don't get me wrong the food was incredible but they took care us from the moment we walk thru the door. The waiters gave us excellent food recommendations. Their suggestions hit that food spot. Great service and amazing food. We will be back. Highly recommended !!!!
Yummy Indian appetizers and main courses and bread.
Nice Indian restaurant. Food was too spicy (was supposed to be "medium") for us.
Went on Valentine's Day. At first glance when I walked in I thought the place wasn't going to be as nice as it seemed on the website but it was just fine. The food and service was great. I am guessing, the manager, came over and gave me a rose to give my lady friend, which I thought was really, really nice. He also had a great sense of humor. I would definitely go back.
Food was excellent. Best Indian food I've ever had. Service was a bit slow but still a great overall experience. Highly recommended
Good food, good service. Had a little mix up with darbar and darbar grill but the meal and service was great
It was very quiet and comfortable. The food was excellent. The portions more than enough. My friend and I had plenty of food left over.
I ordered items from House Specility and they werent even close to be called good.
Enjoyed the food and service for the buffet, very nice. Mike the owner aims to please.
Great dining room upstairs with plenty of space!
The food was very flavorful and everything I ate was amazing! The staff was friendly and very attentive😊
Birthday celebration- Broadway matinee with dinner in Indian restaurant - restaurant week in NYC
Mulligatawny soup was creamy and tasty - okra Crunch was excellent as was the Gobi Manchurian - Salmon tikka masala was good - the Rohan Josh was excellent- we were offered Kulfi for dessert. It was not on the restaurant week menu. We accepted and we’re glad we did. It was rich & creamy & delicious. We will definitely come back when in the neighborhood. Just wish they would add 1947 beer to their menu.
Well done basic Indian food, competent service, very reasonable prices, classic ambiance - recommended
Very good food and pleasant place. Service is OK but could stand improvement.
Great little place, we were the last table of the night so the service was all about us! Great food would highly recommend the chicken tikka
Good food. Good service. Nice setting and decor.
Food was very good. Service was poor. We were put upstairs and it was as if the staff forgot about us. I had to ask to see the manager to complain about the long wait time for the entrees to be served and then the service improved. Would not go back.
This is our go-to restaurant near Grand Central Station. The food is delicious (try the tandoori lamb chops along with lemon rice and raita), the service friendly, the atmosphere casual but refined. It's always a treat to have dinner here, but now I'm thinking, why not make this a weekly occurrence?
Pathetic food and service!
food and personnel were outstanding; bar was not adequately stocked.
Wonderful food and service. We are always greeted by Chris the manager who not only remembers us but what we order. He treats us with respect and hospitality.
The owner is wonderful and came over to greet us personally.
I love the food and staff. Chris is beyond a manager.
We wanted Indian food before a Broadway show - Darbar was unknown to us but conveniently located so we gave it a try . We were not disappointed. Immediate searing, great service, interesting menu, and delicious food.
Service was excellent as always. Usually get the saag paneer (spinach and cheese) but switched it up and got the shrimp with spinach and it was fantastic! My favorite Indian restaurant in NYC and I’ll be back.
Food was good, not much else was so only two stars. The obnoxious loud rap/techno music is hard to understand. We asked for it to be turned off or down, but no luck. I had to beg for a drink refill. Service would be one star. I would come back for the food. Making things worse at the end of our meal we noticed one of our glasses was cracked with a jagged piece of glass. Hopefully they improve their service...
First time visiting Darbar's, we came from out of town (Toronto) for a vacation. Portions were very large and we probably ordered too much food, however, the quality was amazing and the price was fair value. Nice ambiance upstairs and also quiet enough to have a good conversation with my girlfriend.
Would highly recommend restaurant
Great service and great food. Flavorful large portions. Highly recommend!!!
The staff was very accommodating to our large party with kids! Service was fast, and the food was phenomenal.
We chose Darbar because one in our party was a vegetarian and I love Indian food.
They had some excellent ideas and made our goat dish extra spicy.
Best Indian food in NYC!
We wanted to do a low-key Thanksgiving lunch, and we picked Darbar. The food was great, the service was very good, and we could chat without having to shout (not sure if that was because it was less crowded because of Thanksgiving). Would definitely go back for non-holiday meals, though!
Food was excellent. Service was very friendly, although a little slow. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we’ll definitely be back.
Decent Indian food, tasty but not a standout. Lunch buffet had an extensive selection and was a great value at $15 per person, including fresh bread. Definitely had more flavorful Indian food in the 20s-30s in Murray Hill, or higher up in the 50s. For proximity to Grand Central and value of the meal, all in all not a bad choice. Glad we made a reservation for lunch as there was a line out the door throughout our meal.
We are now regulars at 1 Darbar - all perfect, food and service!
Darbar is a great spot for tasty, well-seasoned Indian cuisine. The chicken vindaloo is outstanding -- on the hot side for those who prefer milder tastes -- but it's just the way I like it. My dining companion had the butter chicken and was highly pleased with that. The vegetable samosa appetizer is flavorful and moist. We shared garlic naan and aloo paratha, both of which came fresh, hot, and delicious. Bar cocktails are reasonably potent. The service is efficient and unobtrusive. The décor isn't fancy or beautiful, but the atmosphere is pleasant and the low noise level is conducive to conversation.
Ambiance is not that great, as almost every Indian restaurant is. The samosas are nothing special, the biryani is really good, as well as the chicken tikka masala. Staff is not very prepared, we finished our appetizers and after 10 minutes, they still did not clear our table.
Our first visit to 1 Darbar was exceptional.; food and service perfect. We will now be regular dinners.
Delicious food, great service. Will definitely be back.
This place is a jem
Great staff, authentic curries. Lived up to expectations
