Warm welcome, friendly staff and very good food
The food was ok. I’ve had better crab cakes. The lamb curry was a bit bland. Portions are small. The staff could be more attentive. I had to ask to have my glass refilled with water. Overall a pleasant experience but I do think it could have been better.
Only reason not giving 5 stars is plain boring decor
Sat upstairs in a long narrow room. Large party with buffet was just leaving and food remained way too long. Server cleaning up was popping food into his mouth. Gross
Manager was friendly as was server when he finally came over to us
Had to wait too long to even have water poured for us. Got my wine pronto though!
Here’s the good news
The pappadam was really good
The vegetable dishes were delicious
Would like to see more vegetables in the korma sauce
I’ll go back because the food was so delicious
Wonderful experience so happy to always be greeted by chris. Never had a bad meal here and so reasonable. I had reservations at 5:00 and was suppose to get 1,000 points but got a 100.
This was my first time at Dabar and it was great. Food was well spiced and tasty. The noise was high that night , but is was outside and was a jackhammer and not the fault of Dabar.
Our family of four went here for a late dinner on the occasion of our daughter's birthday. We ordered four different items and shared bites with each other, and all of the plates were delicious. It is fine Indian cuisine but not too pricey. Our daughter is a vegetarian and she had plenty of options. I would definitely return here for lunch or dinner.
Phenomenal food and service!
My first Indian cuisine experience. The food was delicious and the wait staff was very attentive.
Attention to every detail. Impeccable service. Fantastic meal. Will return on my next trip to NY.
Food was great. There were 4 of us, we had veggie samosas and onion banjis for appetizers. They were both fantastic. Cooked to order. There was only a small bit of pompom sauce, but it was flavorful. The four entrees (2 veggie and 2 meat) were exceptional. We had lamb rogan josh, chicken madras curry house special, bombay aloo (spicy but greatI and vegetable korma. The naan serving were small but tasty. The mango ice cream and rice pudding (neither too sweet) were excellent. Will go back again.
This Indian restaurant on E46 Street is well worth a visit. The authentic Indian dishes are very well cooked and presented. Thety even have Sula wines! I would not hesitate in recommending it to someone looking for an Indian meal in nice surroundings.
Consistently good. Have been coming for years.
Darbar is absolutely delicious!! The staff was so friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food is outstanding!!! Perfectly seasoned, authentic, spicy without being overwhelming, and quite fresh. I loved that they had unique things on the menu like salmon tikka masala (try it!! it's heavenly) and these onion fritter-like things that are similar to vegetable pakora, but are even better.
Darbar's greatest asset is its proximity to Grand Central. It is extremely convenient as a place to meet friends on the way back home via Metro North. Our food was good but I was not comfortable with the appearance of the restaurant. It was not very clean and that always makes me suspicious of the food.
We were celebrating a family birthday. Service was great and they did a wonderful job with the dessert. Food was excellent. Great sauces. Goat curry was a hit. Try the rosemary naan for a change up. Rice pudding too.
We expected a bit more after seeing all of the great reviews. It's a simple, good Indian spot. Zero ambiance, fair to mid-level service. The food is solid - very good Indian, but nothing to write home about. They did have a great bottle of wine (amidst a really bad wine list) that we splurged on, which made the meal very nice.
Excellent food and service. The staff is friendly and extremely accommodating to any and all requests. I have eaten at Indian restaurants all over the world, the cuisine at Debar is authentic and flavorful.
Wonderful service, tasty food, quiet. Will be back!
Have been there couple of times for dinner and wanted to try their lunch buffet. Wow for $14.95, you just cannot go wrong. Service as always was impeccable. I tried out Fish, couple of chicken dishes ,some vegetables, got fresh Naan on the table.OMG, I ate too much.
Ambiance was depressing and looked like it needed to be updated. Service was perfunctory and rushed. Felt like waiters were not really very interested in what they were doing. The food was adequate but just average. There are far better Indian restaurants in this area to go to.
Darbar's crummy service never fails to amaze me: it's like the waitstaff is actively trying to lose business. Consistently rude. I made a reservation for 6 people at 2 p.m. (yes, 2 hours before the buffet is scheduled to end) and we were taken upstairs where the servers explained they'd have to reheat the food. We offered to carry plates up from the downstairs buffet but they refused to let us. Turned on the sterno pots under the cold food in the upstairs buffet instead. Then literally dismantled all of the other tables upstairs as we began to eat. I'm talking about folding tables being passed between my table and the food. The best part is that this happened to me the LAST time I came to Darbar's -- also not during peak lunch hour but hardly before the restaurant was to close. Shame on me for going back for reheated curry and remarkably terrible service.
Ambiance is one small step above Curry Hill. Food was mediocre at best. Left the ordering to my three Indian friends all of whom reacted very negatively to most of the food. We were all hoping for a lot better.
They have a fantastic Indian buffet at lunch during the week. It is all-you-can-eat for an incredibly low price and the food is delicious with lots of choices. My friend and I went on the late side (2:30), and the restaurant was not crowded and we were able to sit and talk and enjoy the wonderful food without being rushed. Highly recommended for Indian-food lovers like us.
I would not recommend this restaurant. The wait staff attended to the larger groups even though we were seated first. They also did not know anything about the ingredients in the food as one person in my party of three had gluten allergies- they kept makig suggesstions of things to try but knew nothing about the food at all. Quite a let down after reading the reviews.
Not the best or the worst Indian restaurant you'll ever visit. Service was slow but not bad. Good was just 'ok'.
Delicious and quiet
Good basic Indian cuisine in midtown Manhattan. Nothing exotic and will be pleasing even to the most unadventurous patron so a good solid choice if you desire Indian food with a diverse menu, Indian beers and a reasonable tariff.
Cuisine is good but that evening somehow service was very slow.
Service was extremely slow and inattentive, prices were more expensive than on website
