Darbar's greatest asset is its proximity to Grand Central. It is extremely convenient as a place to meet friends on the way back home via Metro North. Our food was good but I was not comfortable with the appearance of the restaurant. It was not very clean and that always makes me suspicious of the food.

We were celebrating a family birthday. Service was great and they did a wonderful job with the dessert. Food was excellent. Great sauces. Goat curry was a hit. Try the rosemary naan for a change up. Rice pudding too.

We expected a bit more after seeing all of the great reviews. It's a simple, good Indian spot. Zero ambiance, fair to mid-level service. The food is solid - very good Indian, but nothing to write home about. They did have a great bottle of wine (amidst a really bad wine list) that we splurged on, which made the meal very nice.

Excellent food and service. The staff is friendly and extremely accommodating to any and all requests. I have eaten at Indian restaurants all over the world, the cuisine at Debar is authentic and flavorful.

Unbelievable!!!
Have been there couple of times for dinner and wanted to try their lunch buffet. Wow for $14.95, you just cannot go wrong. Service as always was impeccable. I tried out Fish, couple of chicken dishes ,some vegetables, got fresh Naan on the table.OMG, I ate too much.

Ambiance was depressing and looked like it needed to be updated. Service was perfunctory and rushed. Felt like waiters were not really very interested in what they were doing. The food was adequate but just average. There are far better Indian restaurants in this area to go to.

Darbar's crummy service never fails to amaze me: it's like the waitstaff is actively trying to lose business. Consistently rude. I made a reservation for 6 people at 2 p.m. (yes, 2 hours before the buffet is scheduled to end) and we were taken upstairs where the servers explained they'd have to reheat the food. We offered to carry plates up from the downstairs buffet but they refused to let us. Turned on the sterno pots under the cold food in the upstairs buffet instead. Then literally dismantled all of the other tables upstairs as we began to eat. I'm talking about folding tables being passed between my table and the food. The best part is that this happened to me the LAST time I came to Darbar's -- also not during peak lunch hour but hardly before the restaurant was to close. Shame on me for going back for reheated curry and remarkably terrible service.

Ambiance is one small step above Curry Hill. Food was mediocre at best. Left the ordering to my three Indian friends all of whom reacted very negatively to most of the food. We were all hoping for a lot better.

They have a fantastic Indian buffet at lunch during the week. It is all-you-can-eat for an incredibly low price and the food is delicious with lots of choices. My friend and I went on the late side (2:30), and the restaurant was not crowded and we were able to sit and talk and enjoy the wonderful food without being rushed. Highly recommended for Indian-food lovers like us.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The wait staff attended to the larger groups even though we were seated first. They also did not know anything about the ingredients in the food as one person in my party of three had gluten allergies- they kept makig suggesstions of things to try but knew nothing about the food at all. Quite a let down after reading the reviews.

Good basic Indian cuisine in midtown Manhattan. Nothing exotic and will be pleasing even to the most unadventurous patron so a good solid choice if you desire Indian food with a diverse menu, Indian beers and a reasonable tariff.

Went here after med school graduation with friends and family - had a group of 18 people, and they were able to accommodate with no issues. Plus they had good food.

Great experience! Very attentive servers and the dishes we had were great! I am very picky with Indian food and the chicken korma was the best I've had! The lemon rice was also great!

I ordered vegetarian curry with a hint of yogurt, which was really tasty. Mu aunt ordered garden salad and Indian garlic bread. Both were come in a good portion and delicious. Overall is good! However, I did not get +1000 bonus points. Could anyone tell me why?

The food was very slow in coming, it took 45 mins for soups and over an hour for the main meal, with no explanation. It took so long my husband left before the main meal and went back to the hotel, he was so tired and could not wait any longer

The prices listed on the open table app menu do not reflect the prices of the entrees in the restaurant- this was misleading and upsetting. Otherwise, the food was great

Great place for a get-together with global travelers craving for tasty, authentic Indian food at the Special Event. Tandoori chicken was a great appetizer with Kingfisher Beer. Shrimp, vegetarian dishes, and the variety of Indian breads was exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite restaurants. I'm going there tonight. The manager chris treats people like kings and queens. In fact i don't want to go anywhere else, I'm going back tonight. The quality of the food is tremendous. I always bring some home. On top of all it's reasonable.

Solid Indian cuisine here. We dined here during restaurant week but decided to just order straight from the menu. We got there around 9:30 pm on a Friday night and the place was very quiet. Staff was already setting up for Saturday's buffet. I suspect they do a lot of their business with lunch and pre-theater crowds.

The staff overall was pleasant.

Food is solid here, especially for the price. The veggie samosas were wonderful, not at all dry like can be the case at other places. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken were nice and tender, with flavorful sauce. My favorite thing was the Tandoori Vegetables that we got on the side. And the garlic naan was super buttery and full of garlic - yes!

The staff gave use dessert on the house, which was a nice touch.
