A word from ZZest Market & Cafe
At ZZest we feature products that are small batch, artisan created, and handmade following traditional family methods. We source local farm raised ingredients as often as possible, fly in fresh seafood from the coasts, and fully utilize the ingredients that are at their seasonal best.

Our Cafe is small, and, it is very, very casual (just like the rest of our store) -- the focus is on the food. We do take a few dinner reservations but we save most of the tables for walk in, just to keep it relaxed. So put on your favorite jeans and a comfortable sweatshirt and enjoy an elegant meal without having to count the silverware. And yes, we do have real waitresses and even bathrooms.

This was our first time at Zzest. And we loved it. My husband and I both had the tasting menu and found the portions to be perfectly small (we left satisfied and not too full) and the flavors wonderfully big and bold. Enjoyed the seating nestled into the market.

Good in tensions. Food pretended craftsman. Meat ordinary. Sauce uninspired. Vegetables a malange of misfits. Waitress lovely but untrained. What will it take to persuade owners that serving is important and should be professional.

inside or out, lunch or dinner, Zzest is totally fit for foodies. Family owned and run by LeeAnn and Jerry, two long time pros in the restaurant business. Great service and a constantly evolving menu never disappoint, they don't miss. in addition to the restaurant, there's a market inside with thousands of ingredients for culinary extroverts. Robust and intense flavor, the definition of Zzest.

I think I forgot to mention in my last review...that...in addition to "never a bad meal @ this restaurant"...the place includes a fabulous culinary market! Aaaaand....there always seems to be a cheese tasting going on(yum). The tasty cheeses are often paired with various jams, preserves, and honeys. Also, there is often a decadent chocolate something to taste as well ;-d A true epicurean treat from start to finish @ Zzest in Rochester, MN. My Fav! Hands down!

We had a wonderful night at Zest. Very surprised by the inexpensive Cabernet on their wine list. We enjoyed the squid appetizer with hummas to start. My husband really enjoyed the lobster roll. Wish we would have had room for dessert the options looked tempting!

The meat and cheese trays are a hit with us....so many choices for both and served with fantastic tasting baguettes, nuts, dried fruits and a surprise chutney/jelly that is always spot on! Special entree this evening was a lobster roll (tons of lobster on this one!) and the halibut prepared with asparagus and swiss chard. Overall an excellent dinner! Wish they'd kick up their wine list a notch or two.

Hands down the best food in Rochester. Most creative chefs in Rochester. "Consistently" best food, service, presentation of any restaurant in the area. These folks(LeAnne and Jerry Zubay) revolutionized/raised the bar the restaurant scene in Rochester with their former restaurants:The Bank, Henri Wellington, Broadstreet, Redwood Room, City Cafe. Now they continue with ZzzzzBest of everything with Zzest Market and Cafe. We dine @ Zzest several times a month. Lunch or dinner, they are always consistent in their top notch service. We've never had a bad experience there. Smart casual dining indoors or out: seafood, beef, woodfire pizzas... You can't go wrong! We are fortunate to have Zzest in Rochester.

  • Like dining at a Whole Foods

This is a small but cool place. It's like dining at an open market, or if Whole Foods served dinner in their cheese department, this is how it would go. We stuck with the cheese, dried meats, and eclectic menu items like the lentil cake, which were all good. Desert was good, as well. The only negative was the guy who is either the owner or manager was hovering around by desert making longing eyes to reclaim our table. I didn't think that was fair since we were there for only two hours and our check was over $250.00. And for that reason only, I will think twice before going back.

Incredible incredible food. We were visiting from Scottsdale Arizona. We are recommended to eat here by a local. We were not disappointed. The pulled mozzarella with some of the best I've had in my life. We had the bread dish with dipping oils as well. They were incredible. We also got the roasted beet salad which was out of this world. The entrées were fantastic. We had a fish dish as well as a chicken dish. Finally, we had dessert and pressed coffee. We have excellent restaurants in Scottsdale, but ZZest is as good as any of them. They opened up shop in Scottsdale, they would be packed with lines out the door. I will eat here on every trip to Rochester.

I've been coming to ZZest for several years and only just learned that they are now on OpenTable. The food is exquisite and prepared in unique and tasteful ways! The atmosphere is casual and friendly, you can even buy "a round for the kitchen" right from the menu. The cheese and meat boards are phenomenal and come with nuts, dried fruits, bread and chutney. The flavors blend very nicely. Just wish the wine list were worthy of these boards! The main entrees are uniquely prepared with ingredients from sustainable & organic sources as listed on their menus. Can't wait for the patio to open so that we can enjoy the fresh pizza prepared with their pizza ovens on the premises!

I took my wife out for her birthday, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is nothing short of passionate, knowing all the little details of the food and it's characteristics. My 25 year old daughter and I were really looking forward to our weeknight dinner here! I think it was an off night because the menu didn't offer the variety that it usually does. My daughter opted for the Adventurer's Meal which basically is whatever the chef concocts; she was very happy with all 4 dishes that were offered, especially the dessert that consisted of a combination of chocolate ice cream and flavored olive oil and, I think, caramel with sea salt. My main entree, some type of filled ravioli was bland, not the typical excellent Zzest entree. Eating utensils had to be asked for and the dessert (final 4th dish) came before the 3rd dish. Service & food typically excellent, so again, I think it was just an off night . . .

We had heard so many good things about this place so had to try it out. Best meal we have had in a long time. Real fresh artisan food. Every bite was mouthwatering. It is a small place great for couples or groups of 4. We arrived early which allowed us to chat with the service staff to get recommendations on the menu items. The menu changes so you have to keep going back to try more. This is our new fav place to dine!

Took my wife to ZZ Zest last weekend for dinner. Have never eaten there before but had purchased items from their in store food market. Food was very good. Menu is rather limited and I would not recommend this place for kids or for those who are not interested in trying something different. The French bread is awesome! The pasta dish I had was also very good. My wife had melt in your mouth scallops but they were on some rather spicy potatoes. Crime brûlée was very good as well. Nothing spectacular but overall a very nice place to eat for something different. Prices are not cheap. Dinner for two without liquor and we shared the creme brulee was nearly 80 dollars.
