We came here as a party of two couples. It was one of the most pleasant evenings with friends we have had in a long time! Our table, though next to the door, felt very private and secluded. At the same time, we could see outside to the patio and into the restaurant. Our server came promptly to take drink orders and to tell us about the specials. Bread also came, and with a much larger refill when the plate was empty!. Our appetizers were delicious - crispy Brussels sprouts and PEI mussels in a rich tomato broth. My only disappointment was that the mussel service was very small for the $12 price. Mussels are cheap in the market, so why no pass along the savings? Our entrees were also delicious - halibut and clams, and risotto with mushrooms. Both were very filling, but there was from for an ice cream sundae - rich and decadent, and a lemon sorbet. The sorbet was very soft, so we were comped, as the server explained that there had been a problem with the machine/ Even so, the flavor was tangy and fresh - a perfect ending to the evening. At no time were we rushed, but the service was attentive, and our every need or wish was quickly attended to. I hope to return soon!

Zut! Is one of those places you want to be good. I go back several times each year hoping to fall in "like"-if not in love. You want it to be a "go to" place for both business and personal lunch and dinner. It has a the advantage of a great location on 4th St. The space is well layed out. The bar is very nice and thoughtfully stocked. It has great ancestry- the original location of Mark Miller's Santa Fe Bar & Grill. The menu is always interesting, but for me, their execution always dissappoints. Although the the wait staff is pleasant, The service is incredibly slow-even at non-peak time. I have to assume they are chronically under-staffed. My suggestion- go for drinks and eat the simplest appetizers-fried smelts, lamb meatballs, fries.

Our table near the window also had the front door banging through our entire meal. The Duck Pizza, really had NO DUCK...just potatoes. Ordered a cheeseburger and got no cheese;. Is this the way you want to spend $75/person? Not again folks. Fix the door slam problem and find some duck! Very disappointing. Hostess who seated us KNEW our table would be subject to door banging...so complaining to her was a waste of time. Get a new hostess too.

Had lunch there for the first time with two friends. Service was a little slow and the restaurant hadn't filled up with the lunch crowd yet. Red Quinoa was very good. Risotto was a bit too salty, but was filled with delicious mushrooms and cooked perfectly al dente. Chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream was excellent. A little pricey for the amount of food on your plate, but we were never rushed and that always counts for something. Will go back.

Lunch with friends at ZUT did not disappoint. We were seated in the "mural" room with beautiful light and atmosphere. Seems to be a popular "ladies lunch" spot and rightly so. A menu with something for everyone, excellent service and a great location on Fourth Street is a reason to eat here. We ordered the fried smelts and lamb meatballs to share and start out with. Both were outstanding. The stuffed Monterey squid on braised greens was toothsome, the chorizo stuffing delicious. The special day boat scallops were perfectly cooked, the mushroom risotto was creamy and full of mushroom flavor and the falafal plate colorful and tasty. I can see our group going back. Oh, and did I mention the killer Bloody Mary? VERY GOOD.

Great welcome, our table was ready. Waitress came by and we were not ready to order. Then when were ready to order, it was difficult to get the attention of our server or any other server. Throughout the meal we seemed to be orphans. "Everyone responsibility is NO Ones responsibility". I thought I was at the U. S. Congress. Food was generally good and the hamburger very good. Fries were rather hard and the tuna was only fair.

If you don't eat anything else, try the fried brussel sprouts ....and this is from a person who thought she didn't like brussel sprouts! Absolutely delicious! Fried with bacon, garlic (?) and served with lemon juice. We ordered a second serving! We were a party of seven who ordered many different things on the menu from fish to meatballs, to hamburger to pizza. All the food and service was very good. I highly recommend!

Lunch was tasty and generous. Chicken wrap special was enormous (could easily be shared). Chopped salad was as advertised (beets, feta, etc.), but a little small for the price. Fig, arugula, walnut pizza was large and quite cheesy; again, easy to share.

We like to dine at La Mediterranee on College, but UCLA had just beaten Cal so decided to find a venue farther from the crowd. We parked two blocks away, no problem. The evening was warm so we could have eaten outside, and we should have. The walls, ceilings, and floor reflected the loud guests, some of whom were children. My wife ordered Petrale Sole, which was perfect. Nice sized meal, great presentation, and had my mouth watering. I had the halibut and clams. It came with 3 clams. THREE. I was done with my meal and still hungry so got an arugula salad with pear, walnut, fennel. It was scrumptious. All the food was great. Our server was delightful. When we left, around 8:30 the place was hopping, with a line out the door

I go there many times during the year and this was the first time that I was disappointed - big time! We started with the fried Brussels sprouts and they were great! However, our chicken pannini's and hamburgers were dry with too much bread. The fries were great, as usual. We each ate about half of our sandwiches. Wish we had just had the Brussels sprouts and an order of fries! We did have a very nice sweet waitress.

Perfect little restaurant. My caveat is that it can be SUPER noisy - go at more "off" time. We did a Saturday at 2 and it was quite reasonable, noise-wise, as there were empty tables. We both ordered a chicken/bacon pannini that came with soup and salad; my friend ordered no bacon on her sandwich and I wanted no soup. She got bacon and I got soup - as if we could order whatever we liked, but would get what we got! The food is actually quite good and perhaps our waiter was exhausted from his earlier rush. Zut itself is charming, with outside seating -- quite nice on a warm day and the staff is always very nice.

Lovely greeting, delightful and efficient waitress. her support staff were friendly but not very competent. Brussels sprouts - decent. Mussels - very disappointing - no flavor, not rich enough broth, overcooked mussels. Little Gems Caesar - perfect as usual! Risotto - fantastic - one of the best ever. Burgers and fries - yummy. Apple crisp very tasty but needed a bit more ice cream served with it. Budino - delish. Looking fwd. to another risotto!

We don't often find ourselves on Fourth Street, as it's so crowded, parking's hard, and dining options tend to be overpriced. But we were looking for something at the last minute and stumbled onto Zut! and were totally surprised and impressed. The fried Brussels sprouts are among the tastiest ever: our daughter went back for multiple helpings after reluctantly tasting them. The pizzas were fresh and innovative and very tasty. The burger was delicious. Basically, we came in with pretty low expectations and were blown away. We will definitely come back.

We had a lovely lunch. The food was uneven. The grilled brussels sprouts were great. The fig salad had a bit too much vinegar. The lamb meatballs were very strongly spice with a heavy spiced. The caesar salad was very good. Their bread is so yummy. We did not drink wine, so I did not look at their selections. Our waiter was charming and attentive. I noticed there were only two waiters and it is a sizable restaurant. We sat outside and could people watch. I will go there again.

Zut is a well-located little bistro, where the ambiance and service outpace the food. I had the Caprese salad and Zut burger and my companion had a pizza. The salad was ok, if a bit small and bland. The burger was ok, but a little overcooked. He seemed to like his pizza, but it looked like an average pizza. Everything was sort of average at best, in terms of food. Given how nice the place looks and the very good service, this place deserves better food from the kitchen. One last pet peeve. Why serve room temperature drinking water? Is ice really that hard to provide? Or even chilled water? It's just gross drinking nearly warm water, and hardly thirst quenching.

My only disappointment was our group did not want a pizza to share. I have had it before and it was delicious! We arrived a little before our reservation time, and were immediately seated. Very attentive waitress and staff. We ordered three dishes to share. When we were almost done with the second dish, the waitress asked if we still wanted to order the third dish, as she thought we might have ordered one dish more than we could finish, and she had not yet submitted that order. In fact, we were full, and did not order the third dish. We are grateful for our waitress looking out for us like this. We would definitely go back to Zut again for the food and the service.

I enjoyed the food - a whole flounder that came with a side dish of something similar to broccolini and a roasted potato that didn't have much taste.
