Established in 2010, Zut! on Fourth renews a historical restaurant location on the fourth street shopping district in Berkeley.
Zut! specializes in regional Mediterranean/New American dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients by Executive Chef Jim Wimborough. The Zut! Bar offers diverse specialty hand-crafted and classic cocktails, small production European and domestic wine list, and an extensive spirits menu.
Zut is an ideal venue for large groups and private parties.

  • "Cocktails are excellent here and the service is very good. The food is a bit more mixed. We ordered the rotisserie chicken because we had seen it on the spit on an earlier visit, but it turned out to be overly smoky and dry. The pardon peppers with fried cheese were wonderful, and the fried smelts were good. The lamb meatballs were flavorful, but the sauce was way too oily. We will be back for cocktails, and try more appetizers. It's a nice place, and we hope to have more consistent quality in the future."

  • "We love Zut!! Whether we are just two or a family of 10 they treat us with care and humor and the food is delicious! The wait persons love to joke and act very professionally to make sure you are served with style and that your food is amazingly prepared and served at the proper temp. The atmosphere is festive and light and airy and everyone who is there is having a great time. The restaurant is noisy in front but the back has some booths that are quiet and that are great for kids. They have crayons and a kid menu and our 3 1/2 year old and 5 year old love it. they make amazing cocktails and super shirley temples for the kids. We really enjoy 4th street as the kids find a lot to do but it has a romantic character for couples dining."

  • "The food was okay, not to the level I expected. Dessert was not very good, had Peach Cobbler and normally this dessert should be piping hot. It was border line luke warm and the peaches tasted like it came out of a can (not fresch, I've had better). The only good part of the dessert was the crust. Cocktails were NOT very good. We ordered two different types of cocktails and both were very disappointing. I do have to give props to our server, after mentioning to him I was not happy with my cocktail (not his fault), he removed both mine and my fiance's cocktails from our tab. I am willing to give the restaurant another try becuase of the service. NOTE: becuase of outside seating, there were flies all over the dinner table (not good)."

  • "Four of us dined at Zut this week (7/28/14) and all had different main dishes. The portions were too small, except for the hamburger plate. We also thought the selection of mains was rather limited - one beef ($34.00 is a bit high), one chicken, 2 fish, 1 sausage pasta (very small portion), and 2 vegetarian. The salmon on top of a corn salad looked lost on the plate - why not include a starch of some kind? The friend who order salmon ate my potatoes. No bread provided, which should be if the portions are that small."

  • "Party of 6: 3 adults and 3 kids. Seated promptly at 11:45 and ordered. Did not receive food till 12:30. The restaurant was busy but not swamped, and they brought the kids' food out last (!!). Any server worth their salt should know not to make the kids wait 45 minutes for food. At ~12:15, the server told us that the food was "on its way", but it was still another 15min before the food came. Also, one of our party members told the server that she was (highly) allergic to red peppers. But guess what came in breakfast potatoes? Better care and attention to food allergies is a must. We do not plan to return."

  • "100 in Walnut Creek, 70 on 4th street!! Food is incredible. I had the tomato salad which was great and beignets that are to die for. My husband had pizza which was terrific. Go! You will have a wonderful time. The staff makes you feel right at home and anticipate your needs!"

  • "Comfortable and inviting. The atmosphere felt very relaxing. I often dine alone and I would not hesitate to come here alone or with friends. I met a friend for dinner and we both enjoyed everything we ordered. The squash blossoms were delicious and though fried, not greasy and the portion size generous enough to share. The vegetarian entree was tasty and so was the pizza. They serve teas from Teance, a lovely tea shop on Fourth St that I highly recommend. A lovely dining experience. I will return soon."

  • "We had a group of 5 for lunch. The prices were high for lunch and the food did not warrant it. I had a hamburger and fries, which were good. The hamburger came with generous tomato slices, lettuce and onion. I did not see a substitute for the fries on the menu (like fruit) and the waiter did not mention any - I should have asked. ($13 without cheese) The other 4 people ordered open face egg salad sandwiches with anchovies and lettuce on the side. ($12). These were simply chopped up hard boiled eggs on a piece of toast - no mayo or other dressing as I would expect with an egg salad sandwich. The waiter did do separate checks - a positive."

  • "One of my dinner guests asked the waitress which of 2 beers was more "hoppy." Instead of getting someone who might be able to answer that question, she said, "I don't know anything about beer." The service was slow, and the room was too hot. They have doors that open, and they could have opened them enough to let in some air. We were in a far corner and it was uncomfortably hot."

  • "It's possible to share anything at Zut. Two women at a nearby table shared what looked like a great hamburger and fries. We shared the fried brussel sprouts and a Caesar salad. Then we each had an entree. My wife had a delicious vegetarian risotto and I ate orecchiette with sausage. Everything was very tasty. The tables are too close together which makes it a bit awkward for the servers, but the service was still very attentive. The room is decorated with murals of diners. You can eat inside or outside. Zut is an altogether nice place."

  • "Had lunch on a weekday. Service was attentive, fast, and not over bearing. Starter (mezzes) were at most OK, but the whole wheta bread was very good. Of the main dishes, 3 were great (salmon, quinoa, risotto), and 1 was OK (ahi tuna salad). Desert, which we shared, was delicious (plum crisp w/vanilla ice-cream - real plums, not too sweet, not gooey). Capuccinos were very good, and the uncrowded, contemporary setting is very pleasant. Walk, bike, as it's very hard to find parking."

  • "Zut! has a beautiful 'open feel' interior - a very nice atmosphere. Food-wise, the grilled-asparagus appetizer and arugula salad I ordered were delicious. My dining partner ordered grilled chicken which was outstanding. I ordered the fresh Mozzarella pizza and was rather disappointed. It was very salty and the crust was tasteless. I would not order the mozzarella pizza again. However the other pizzas on the menu looked intriguing and I will try them another time. The wait staff was courteous and attentive, although a little understaffed considering how busy the restaurant was. They also had an excellent wine list. With appetizers, wine, main course, dessert and tip I spent $100 for two. Recommended."

  • "We frequent Berkeley's 4th street shopping district often. There are three musts for breakfast/brunch: Bette's, El Tacubaya and Zut! Bette's Has a great old school diner feel and starts breakfast early, but doesn't take reservations. Arrive by 8:30 or be prepared for a long wait up to 45 min. El Tacubaya serves amazing Mexican food but seats fill up quickly and order line stays long through lunch. No reservations. Enter Zut! They DO take reservations! How refreshing! And, if that weren't enough, they also serve some great foods! Favorites include: Beignets, eggs Benedict and French toast. Beignets call to mind 3am stops at Cafe Du Monde, eggs Benedict rival the best I've had, and French toast uses brioche and is my wife' favorite."

  • "Went back to Zut! last week to see if my "bad" one night experience was a fluke.... I still love Zut! This go round we had: Beet Salad (excellent). Sausage/Egg Pizza (excellent). Mozarella Pizza (excellent). Bucatini (very good, the chef doused the dish with too much red peppers in one spot, but we avoided a flaming mouth). And Lastly, the Pork Chop. Sadly, this was our worst dish. It looked overcooked and dry when it hit the table, and after cutting thru the meat (with effort), we were right..... However, I still recommend Zut!, Carolyn our server was GREAT. So attentive with a full room in play."

  • "Really good. Much better than the first time I went a few years ago. Wonderful house smoked steelhead salad. Delish whole petrale. Crispy smelts-excellent. However, rhubarb crisp, although balanced and tart, was topped with a not very "crisp" crumble--was soggy :-( Great service. I highly recommend Zut and would go back."

  • "8 of us dined at Zut! on a Sunday night. We enjoyed very, very good food and excellent, friendly service. I heard many compliments from my dining partners. We enjoyed appetizers: fried brussel sprouts (good); lamb meatballs (very good); grilled asparagus (outstanding!). Entrees included: Risotto, Bucatini, Rotisserie Chicken -- every one of them was excellent! Two of us shared the chicken and still had a bit to take home and enjoy the next day. Desserts included rhubarb crisp which received lots of compliments, but the hot fudge sundae took home the grand prize (still thinking about it!). Dine at Zut! with family, friends, co-workers, or clients. You will be glad you did."

  • "We had high hopes for Zut based on reviews we had read. It was a special date night and unfortunately we found out Zut is not a good spot for a romantic night out. The noise level was off the charts which prevented any attempt at conversation. The tables were very close together and the patrons seemed ok yelling to be heard. Unfortunately the food was not enough to overcome the negatives and in a nutshell it was a disappointing experience. Might return for a drink but not for dining on weekends."
