Eclectic group of diners. Some doin shots with the BarKeep, a romantic couple, table of 3 loud and somewhat pretentious yup's. All in all, good food and entertaining bunch. Very kind and attentive service.

Zuppa is in a very cool and accessible SOMA location. Could be excellent for happy hour - for both CalTrain commuters and SOMA locals. However, it seems like the kitchen needs new ideas and perhaps a little more oversight. So much possibility with this restaurant but the overall experience and menu disappoint.

Zuppa operates a bit below the radar. It's tucked on a side street and isn't an especially high-profile place in the foody community (unlike its once and former (and currently fallen) sister, Globe). Being off the beaten path adds to its appeal on one level -- it's invitingly cozy, for one -- but I do worry about survival. Food here is always very good (wonderful homemade salsiccia, delicious pasta and a great mixed vegetable platter) and service friendly; there's a full bar, and the small wine list is very reasonable, interesting and entirely Italian). Buono!

The Bar Tender had an attidude and took himself way to seriously. Perhaps there is more than one bartender and it won't be a problem. Even though he wasn't helpful at the bar, he made a very good drink when it came to the table. The food is very good and the tanble service was very good.

The sausage and broccoli pizza was very good. We were extremely happy with the vegetable plate with all the vegetables they offer. The beets, Brussels sprouts, and the kale were some of the best we have had in the city.

The pizza calabria was very good, and my dining companion liked her calamari. The veggie sides were really outstanding -- beets and brussels sprouts, both cooked perfectly, with just enough seasoning to bring out their natural flavors. They complemented the salty pancetta and spicy peppers on the pizza very nicely. The "Bourbon and Blood" drink was decent (and strong) but from the description on the cocktail menu I'd expected the orange and ginger flavors to come through more distinctly.

Outstanding roasted chicken & veggies-some of the best ever. Great arugula salad. Everything tastes fresh. We could have gotten done faster--our waiter was slow to take courses away. Also mixed up the salad order. Not terrible but we were being given the the eye by people who wanted our table.

I dined here about a year ago, and remembered the wonderful pasta with pesto sauce that I had then. I ordered it again on a recent visit, and felt that it wasn't as good this time around. The very wide pasta had a slippery mouth feel and there wasn't much pesto on the pasta. I enjoyed the arrugala salad but my son thought it needed more ingredients than just sliced strawberries (not many)and grated Romano. The brussel sprouts were a highlight, cooked just perfectly. My son liked the pizza but I thought there was too much overbaked outside edge. The waiters were attentive but not intrusive. I will come again and try another dish for my main course.
