Zuni CafeChicken with bread salad isChicken with bread salad is a must. Oysters were also delicious!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperlatives fail me.Excellent food, very professional service. The bartender made a pisco sour starting with an egg white, not a mix. My wife called the tuna the best fish she'd ever had.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in SFBeen my fav restaurant in sf for years. Was disappointed that on my last visit, food was not well timed at all; our entree came out cold; didn't say anything to the server as he was clearly overwhelmed by a large party that came in during our meal. This was really , noticeable because the 30+ experiences ve had at zuni are never anything short of impeccable. Hopefully just a one-off and not a sign of anything declining.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMRoast chicken lives up to the hype! The chicken was enough to feed my husband and I twice (we had the leftovers for dinner two nights later). The appetizers were tasty (rabbit w/black beans and fava beans a la plancha) as was the Caesar salad. Flourless chocolate cake was truly one of the "airiest" we've ever had and the strawberry sorbet was also delicious, not too sweet, perfectly tart. Our server Jessica was quite good and she was supported by an attentive busboy staff. Only downsides are: this place can be quite loud (try to sit upstairs) and the bathroom situation is inadequate (1 toilet for guys, 1 for girls) given the size of the restaurant and the number of patrons at the bar.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as ever!Moved out of the city after 32 years of great Zuni meals. Two years later it is as good as ever -
Gnochi - the best anywhere hands down.
Ceasar and shoestring potatoes - better than life itself.
Espresso granita - a little smaller and less attractive but the same great flavor.
Zuni rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest chicken ever!!So worth the hour wait to prepare it!
Everything was so delicious from salad to
That roast chicken to great dessert. Our server
Was a true professional!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great time at ZuniZuni has been one of my favorite places for years, and I try to get there whenever I am in San Francisco. It's my place for oysters and the signature chicken with bread salad is well worth the wait. Enjoy a couple of the aperol cocktails and conversation with your date over appetizers while it roasts. Our dinner last Sunday was made even more outstanding by the incredibly warm and smart service from Kristen, our charming server. Thank you, Kristen!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Off Day in the Kitchen?Let me start by saying that we love Zuni and Mother's Day may not be the best day to review a restaurant, but this time the pizza arrived with a soggy crust and seemed, overall, rather bland. The oysters, in contrast, were fresh and flavorful as always and the other dishes were just fine. Desserts were superb! This one glitch will in no way deter us from going back as often as possible.
As always the service was superb and when we arrived our table was waiting as were the flowers we had ordered.
Thanks to the staff!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Fabulous!Went to Zuni for my birthday and, as usual was impressed. We got there for lunch and were seated by a window upstairs where it was quiet and we could have a conversation. The service was excellent. We had fairly normal lunch of Cesar Salad, Burger and Fries but, the quality of those items was superb. Zuni is always a place you can count on for a wonderful meal. It's also quintessential San Francisco!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food before a Performance. My friend and I ate here for lunch before seeing a matinee ballet at the Opera house. I had been here before many years ago and I was not disappointed. The food and service were wonderful,5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great! As usual, Zuni was great. Had soup and their fantastic Caesar salad for lunch with a friend. Fantastic!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat chickenThe chicken under a brick is worth the wait. The bread salad that comes with it was delicious. Great service.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great mealI have been going to Zuni periodically over the last 30 years and have enjoyed every meal I have had there. (If I lived in SF I would be a regular.) This Sunday brunch was no exception. SImple salad with just the right amount of dressing, perfectly poached egg, tasty sausage, crispy and chewy pizza crust. Service was attentive. A very satisfying meal and plenty of time to walk to the opera house for a matinee performance.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMust-be PlaceWe visited ZUNI Cafe during our holiday in SF. It's a absolutely must-be place in town. Great food, good wine list and very friendly service.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife said we had to haveMy wife said we had to have the roast chicken. No one told me, until after we ordered, it would take an hour. No problem. It was absolutely outstanding and the bread salad with it exquisite. Plus I got to watch all the wonderful food items going to the other tables while enjoying my first glass of wine and delicious Caesar salad. Next time I'm gonna get oysters and champagne. Or one of those big piles of shoestring potatoes.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were lucky to get a lastWe were lucky to get a last minute reservation on Sat. night. Zuni continues to impress. We were seated right away and service throughout the night was consistent, if a little slow. The food was excellent. I went for the benchmark caesar salad and roast chicken. Others also ordered and loved the steak. The wine list has a nice range from inexpensive to special occasion. Always love this place.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMPatricia Unterman said itPatricia Unterman said it -- Zuni is San Francisco's living room. You'll see everybody, and everybody is comfortable. And the chicken is worth the wait.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHasn't changed in 20 years.Hasn't changed in 20 years. Excellent fish, gnocchi, Caesar salad, oysters.
I could eat here once a week!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMZuni is always my first choiceZuni is always my first choice if I am in that part of the city.
You can count on them for consistency and quality.
Their thoughtful - ethical practices of local purchasing - support, are meaningful.
Proud and fortunate to have them in our extraordinary Bay Area!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMZuni is famous for roast chicken.Zuni is famous for roast chicken.
You wait an hour--chatting over oysters, salad, wine--then you're served a succulent chicken, crispy skin, perfect seasonings, bread dipped in drippings then crisped, tasty greens...
Now you know why.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCame in from out of town andCame in from out of town and picked Zuni for my birthday dinner based on reviews; was not disappointed. We arrived 15 minutes late but they had held our table-very much appreciated on a busy night. The building and seating on two levels is interesting and the art eclectic. Each item we ordered was well executed and memorable.
My only caution would be that some of the seating is "bench" style without back support; I was happy withva banquet seat against a low wall but I know I would have been unhappy holding myself up all night.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh, great food and excellent,Fresh, great food and excellent, attentive service. Loved the atmosphere.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the best "to order"Still the best "to order" roast chicken anywhere -- worth waiting for!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, we had a lovelyAs always, we had a lovely dinner and night.
We had special guests and the food was spectacular!
Thank you! Our waitress was tops (sorry forgot her name)
and what else can I say! The table upstairs was grand.
I love Zuni!!!!!!!! We have been to your restaurant many, many
times, and I am so impressed that you can keep up the quality
time after time.
We appreciate the hard work it takes. Thank you again!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFull of light and with perfectFull of light and with perfect food. Coffee granita dessert at brunch was spectacular.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Roast Chicken for TwoThe Roast Chicken for Two certainly lived up to all the hype! Frankly, I was amazed. My husband makes a fantastic roast chicken, so how could it be better? But it was -- we both agreed. It was a wonderful meal that was well worth making the reservation weeks in advance.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe chicken dinner was excellent. The chicken dinner was excellent. Our server sggested the Atlantic oysters which we thought was odd so we ordered Atlantic and Pacific...she was right! The Atlantic oysters were superb. It was just sooo noisy, and we were UPTAIRS. But the food was so very good!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMChicken with bread salad,Chicken with bread salad, their signature dish, was out of this world.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe throughly enjoyed our mealWe throughly enjoyed our meal at Zuni Cafe. The chicken lived up to its reputation and seeking out the restaurant was well worth the effort. However, the restaurant is very loud. So much so that it's impossible to have a conversation with the person across the table. To make matters worse there's pianist playing downstairs and although I was seated in the balcony above him I couldn't tell you anything about the music that he played. I complained about the excessive sound level to a waiter who agreed and said it was the loudest restaurant he'd ever worked in.
A restaurant does not need to be a temple of silence, but it is supposed to be a place where one can have a conversation.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my all time favoriteOne of my all time favorite restaurants - anywhere. And yes, get the chicken. But try all the other great food as well!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe chicken is as amazingThe chicken is as amazing as all the reviews said.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingly, after so many years,Amazingly, after so many years, Zuni Cafe continues to provide a cutting edge and superlative dining experience.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI was quite impressed whenI was quite impressed when I received a call confirming the reservation and then was asked if we had plans after dinner and we did so they made a note of it and served us and was quite concerned that we received our order in time to meet the show. The service was just right. I thought it was a bit pricey. One person in the party is eager to return. I wasn't impressed with the food for the cost. I know the menu changes so I might try it again.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOut of three dishes we consumedOut of three dishes we consumed in our party the two fish were the best. The lamb was somewhat boring.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOur friends from AnchorageOur friends from Anchorage thought this was the cat's meow!
The fresh mushroom fettucine and housemade smoky sausage pizza were awesome!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the food was excellentAs always, the food was excellent -- especially the gnocchi. However, I requested a downstairs table for 4, and we were given an extremely long/narrow table, with two people seated on one side and two on each of the far ends. Zuni's efforts to cram as many people as possible into their oddly shaped dining room made for an extremely awkward dining experience. I guess they get away with it because the food is so good, but really, they should put more effort into reasonable seating arrangements.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant inI love Zuni's. We don't get to visit San Francisco very often but each time we do visit we go to Zuni's for dinner. The chicken is worth waiting an hour for and while you do you can have the Zuni's fries, which are great or the marinated olives which are a tangy appetizer. No one makes Bloody Mary's as good as Zuni's either. We love this restaurant and by the looks of the many people there, everyone else does too. This restaurant came through a recommendation from an excellent restaurant here in the Twin Cities and Ms. Watson was right this restaurant is wonderful.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I celebrated ourMy wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Zuni. The chicken was amazing and the service by Nicole was wonderful! Thank you!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBread chicken and oystersStill fantastic after all these years! If you haven't been, go. If you have been, go again. And by all means get the chicken/bread salad. So worth it. Don't forget the oysters!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and our daughter celebratedMy wife and our daughter celebrated the latter's 40th birthday with a trip to the Napa Valley and San Francisco. We ate at four acclaimed restaurants and Zuni Cafe was the tops. I wish I remembered our waiters name as he was terrific - attentive, knowledgeable but not smarmy. The prices are fair and well worth it. I will be telling friends going to SF not to miss the Zuni Cafe.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMthe perfect meal, the perfect placeMy favorite restaurant in the United States hands down. I have been eating here for 25 years at least once or twice a week, I have easily spent over 60-70,000 dollars here and suggest it as a don't miss.
Judy, Gilbert and her team raise food to beyond art.
Perfection!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHave only been to Zuni's forHave only been to Zuni's for lunch when visiting the Asian Museum, and have nothing to say but great food and service, plus fun atmosphere. Would like to try dinner one of these days.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently GoodOnce again I decided to dine at Zuni on my many return trips. It was a spectacular day and I could have decided to have my lunch at the ferry building but I chose Zuni since it consistently delivers on food , ambiance and service. I hope this review gets to Zuni's attention. I'd like to commend on the top level service delivered by Jason. He supported me and made additional recommendations to make my meal enjoyable. May the team at Zuni be commended in carrying its consistent service at this top eats place.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food! The food was outstanding! The best salad( broccoli, radish, bread crumbs, shallots) we ave ever had! Gnocchi was wonderful as was the duck- cooked perfectly! We had dinner the night before at Fleur de Lys and thought Zuni was better by far!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGenerous portions, great service.Wood fire roast chicken and bread salad were excellent. Generously sized and could feed three easily. It took an hour for the chicken to be prepared. We munched on perfect string potatoes during the wait--crisp and tasty.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMReally enjoyed my meal atReally enjoyed my meal at Zuni, the starter was good but nothing special, I had the cured meat, but it was a good quality meat so that was ok. However we ordered the oven baked chicken for the main (its a sharing dish) and this was Incredible! I would definately go back just for this dish, absolute heaven to eat.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMYou can always count on theYou can always count on the Zuni Cafe to serve up fantastically prepared food with flair.
Zuni is a solid San Francisco institution yet it always stays up to date with the contemporary scene.
Always an SF gem!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only nick we would giveThe only nick we would give from our recent dinner is that our fish entry was not quite on when served. Not a big enough deal to make a fuss out. The menu and ambience are terrific as is the waitstaff. Good wine selection and a really nice cheese plate for dessert.
We did not order the famous chicken but after seeing it served it would be a first choice next time.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful service and beautifulWonderful service and beautiful setting. Loved the brick oven, we ordered the halibut and steak and it was okay. Wish we had ordered the chicken, looked great!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI had a great time at Zuni,I had a great time at Zuni, even though I had lunch alone at a business trip. The staff was excellent, and I still talk about the burger and chockolat cake. Nothing to complain about! My family uses the Zuni cookbook as a Bible :-)3/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
