Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed dinner before a symphony concert on a Saturday night. Seasonal baby kale salad and bread were excellent. Manhattan mussels were good but have had better on the coast. Would also highly recommend the pana cotta for dessert - delicious and refreshing. We did find the tapas sizes a little large - salad, bread, mussels, and one dessert plenty for 2 people. Next time we'd like to try a flatbread but that would have been way too much food. Service was extremely prompt - could have staggered dishes a little more - felt a little rushed for tapas. Nice vibe and great food - will definitely be back!"

  • "Unique urban tapas & wine bar with a diverse menu. Don't miss the fresh tuna tartar tapas plate-very memorable with its additions of jalapeño & lime! Also, the eggplant "fries" are wonderful! And the many muscle & flatbread offerings never disappoint! Zula is among the very best in the new OTR restaurant district!"

  • "Noise level is distracting to dining. Reminds me of a school cafeteria, sports bar, or college reunion room. Takes away from the food and shouting through a memal is not healthy isn't dining suppose to be dine?"

  • "The restaurant was sooooo loud our party could not hear anything anyone said- other diners were screaming and clapping and the space reverberated the noise to unbearable levels! The food was well prepared but waitress spent a lot of time talking to other diners ignoring our requests- salads came our 10 mins after entree - we will never return due to noise level! They need to do something to control it!"

  • "Outstanding food and service. Tables a bit close together for an intimate dinner but a great atmosphere for a group."

  • "Really great new location in the OTR renaissance. So glad a work colleague recommended it and I do the same for you! Good place for a date night, easy valet parking as well, and good proximity to Music Hall and OTR neighborhood."

  • "Food is great, but it is too noisy and tonite the kitchen screwed up. They delivered the pizza right after the appetizer: they did take it back upon request to keep it hot. The mussel order got lost. No one came to tell us there was a problem until we asked. A glitch with the computer. By the time it arrived, everyone else had finished dinner. The restaurant removed that order from the bill, without our asking, which is exactly what they should have done. Fortunately, we had gotten there early enough that we were able to get to Music Hall in time. The only reason I would recommend Zula is it's nearness to Music Hall and the food....but the noise level is a major deterrent. Next time we plan to try the restaurant across the street."

  • "Went here with a large party of 10 for a bachelor/bachelorette party and it did not disappoint. Great beer and wine list, plus our server was great. She said they're known for mussels and flatbreads, so the table got 4 types of mussels and 4 types of flatbreads and it was unbelievable. Someone also got a cold ceviche dish and it was great, plus the two desserts we got were awesome. Overall, perfect for a great group if everyone is cool to share and the food is excellent."

  • "Some friends decided to start a "foodie" club. Zula was the location of our first "meeting" and we couldn't have been happier! The food was outstanding, and a great place to share and try new things. There were 10 of us, and we got a wide variety of flat breads, mussels, small and big plates, along with plenty of drinks. Everything was delicious, though notable was the tuna crudo, the wild mushroom flat bread, and the duck entree - all were outstanding (we almost ordered the duck again for dessert)."

  • "If you love mussels...if you love crusty artisan bread to soak up the broth of the mussels, then Zula is the place for you. I have been there twice -and both times the service was awesome but not intrusive and the mussels superb. My husband had the steak special-cooked to perfection! Zula has a vibe that is reminiscent of the chic restaurants I remember from when I lived in NYC...you won't be disappointed!"

  • "Zula's was the perfect place to be for my birthday. I was accompanied by four others and of the five of us only one had been here before. Diane made us quite comfortable and explained and cared for us very nicely. She was fun and warm and I can't say enough nice things about her. The food was fantastic and it inspired laughter, stories of other interesting and unique places we've dined, laughed, and partied. It was the perfect social event rather than a simple meal which was what I was wanting for my birthday. Getting to know others better all while enjoying great food and wine made for an excellent evening. Diane was perfect, friendly, funny, engaging, considerate and by far one of the best servers I've encountered in Cincinnati."

  • "We go to Zula frequently, and this time took a couple of young professional friends who had not yet been there. We all loved it. The noise level is low enough to have a conversation without having to yell and strain to hear each other, which is very welcome! The food was fabulous...love the mussels!"

  • "We loved the food at Zula's but we will never go back because it was SO noisy in there we both left with headaches."

  • "Was in a few weeks earlier for a night cap and decided to come back to try the food. Our waitress recommended two items that were off the chat flavorful and unique. When asked about another item she directed us in another direction which was on the mark. The mussels in the curry sauce was AMAZING! The flat-bread delicious. Recommend this place to all!"

  • "Fun atmosphere. The mussels were outstanding. We had the funghi preparation. Eggplant flatbread was very good. Panna cotta dessert excellect--light and refreshing. We will definitely return."

  • "We have been to Zula before and had great service and great food. This night was also good, however the table we were first shown was adjacent to the server area. I mean right next to the server area....such that we would be looking at the back of servers and within 5 feet of the table. I asked for another table and we were promptly seated elsewhere. It was an easy fix as we had an early reservation. But it did seem odd to have made a reservation and to be taken to such a poor table. Why make a reservation?"

  • "First visit to Zula and we were impressed. Dining with friends and we were seated immediately upon arrival, although we were slightly late for our reservation. Waiter suggested sharing numerous small plates and we followed through on that for the most part. My tablemates really enjoyed the mussels and I was especially taken with the medium rare yellowfin and green lentils large plate special for the evening. Dessert was also delicious. One negative on a small plate - the thick cut bacon, goat cheese and tomato - the bacon was not sufficiently rendered which made it too chewy. Might have worked better with thinner cut. Highly recommend."

  • "Seared salmon was incredible. Mussels were good. Flatbread was nothing special. Service was oddly slow but that seemed to be more our server in particular as other tables servers seemed to be everywhere. Food came out quickly. Atmosphere was fine. All in all... Just okay. Not sure it would be my idea to return again but wouldn't say no of someone had their heart set on going."

  • "Get the mussels and the bread basket for sure...delicious! The Flatbread is great too and good for dipping the crust in your mussel sauce when your bread basket runs out. The open kitchen atmosphere is different and makes for a lively dining experience, but still not distracting. It's a comfortable vibe with great food."

  • "If you like an absolutely deafening noise level, Zula's is your place. I asked if I could have the rare seared salmon medium, but the chef refused to accommodate. I ordered a lamb moussaka, which had a dry out, tough cover of zucchini, a lamb stuffing that had less lamb that filler. The hericot vert salad was quite tasty, however, as was the chenin blanc glass of wine I had at the servers recommendation. I would return, but only under duress."

  • "My first visit was to the bar and I found the food delicious and the bartender just that perfect blend of helpful, friendly, and engaging. My second trip (2/28/14) was equally good in all aspects, with a very patient server! Here's the shocker...this past Friday night we showed up for our 7:45 pm reservation and were sure we'd spend at least 45 min waiting for the table (like most hot spots taking reservations). To our surprise, they had our table ready right on time! Well managed restaurant from first step in to last step out (even the valet guys were super)!"

  • "Wow - we always get the Mussels with Mushrooms. The broth is killer. The fresh baked bread is so great to dip into the broth, Flat Breads are awesome. So many great choices. We love it here. If you're a bourbon lover and want to try something a little different, go for Woodford's "Bourbon Trail"."

  • "We had not been in this area of Cincinnati for a number of years. The revitaization of the neighborhood is exciting. It was a wonderful evening for walking and the area streets and the park were full of people. The eating experience at Zula was fun and tasty. We were seated in the back room which was a bit less "energetic" than the bar area. Good food, good service. We had a great time!"

  • "The food is delicious and very eclectic. We shared a couple of appetizers (love the mushroom flat bread!) and then each had our own pot of mussels. The curry selection was delicious."

  • "This was my boyfriend and I's second time dining at Zula. We were seated in a perfect little spot by the window. Our server, Matt, greeted us almost immediately and we knew right away our service was going to be fantastic and it was. Definitely 5 star service from Matt and the entire staff. We ordered our 5 dishes and they came out in perfect timing, one pretty much right after we had finished the one prior. The food is absolutely superb. Perfectly sized portions and each dish is so delicious, I can't even describe how incredible it is. Then after we had finished, we received a complimentary dessert, what a sweet surprise! We have dined at many restaurants in and around the city, and Zula is one we will always come back to! Thank you Zula!"

  • "They advertise tapas style, though maybe it would be better known as family style. The food was great, a mix of American and Italian. The ingredients are high quality and the price seems 10-20% high. It was a tasty experience with very good service. We were surprised at how many people can be seated in the dining room (multiple rooms). We will be back!"

  • "This is a great restaurant to add to the collection of new restaurants in OTR. There are a lot of options for foor and some great wine choices. Mussels were amazing, all the food was great. A little on the pricey side, so more of date night type place."

  • "We have been twice to Zula and each time found it very enjoyable. The quality of the food is outstanding. It is difficult to choose hence we keep going back. It is nice just to go in and have a small plate or have a meal. It is very flexible. The service is attentive without being push. A very relaxing place for a meal or just a drink. You can park in the street or in the underground parking lot acros the street. It is very convenient to Music Hall and other venues in the city."

  • "This was our third visit to Zula. We had a group of four. All the food we had, salmon appetizer, beet salad, olives, four varieties of mussels, flat bread, artisan bread and two different desserts, was tasty and well prepared. One down side, that I've noticed on each of our visits, is a lapse in service. Fortunately, most of our food and drink came out promptly. Unfortunately, my mussel order was very late in coming and only after I asked the waiter twice. So, I was eating my mussels when others in our party had finished. The waiter told me my dish was incorrectly sent to another table, and nobody caught the mistake. The noise level in the back room is quite high making conversations, at times, difficult."
