  • "Had lunch with my co-workers for my birthday (thanks all!) The food was wonderful and so was the service. Z'tejas has a very tasty texmex type menu. I had the pork loin on top of spinach and arugula, with a delicious citris sauce and cut pieces of oranges on top. Every bite was delicious and it was perfect for my low-carb diet. The server wanted to give me a dessert for my birthday, but nobody could eat another bite, so he went away and came back to tell us he took 10% off of the total bill! What a great surprise. "

  • "They honored our reservation time and had us seated promptly. Our waiter's service was good. The noise level is extremely high. We sat inside, perhaps the noise is a lower volume in the outside patio area. The chicken chile relleno is absolutely fantastic. This is not like your typical Mexican chile relleno, although I love those, as well. This relleno has an assortment of delicious additions that make it the best ever. The food presentation is excellent. I would recommend this to restaurant to any of my friends. It is also within a block or two from the OC performing arts center (Segerstrom Center)."

  • "Overall the experience was a solid 3 stars. The girls at the front desk seemed over whelmed followed by the servers inability to multi task. The food was great and the happy hour was a real treat."

  • "This was my 1st time at Z Tejas, and I'd DEFINITELY go back! The tableside guacamole was DELICIOUS, actually ALL of our food was great! The server was super friendly and our dinner came out quickly. Our reservation was right on time, and although there appeared to be quite a wait, we were seated immediately!"

  • "I remembered the food was good, but it's now more like mall dining (think Red Robin) rather than fine dining, though the prices are fine dining. The food is good, mostly, but the ambience is not. Tables so close I felt like I was part of the group of 10 next to us. A child in a stroller on the other side. They brought the wrong fish for one of us. Apparently, the waitress got it wrong. No one communicated with us, we waited until our food was beginning to get cold. The right dish finally came as 3 of us were finishing. I was surprised they didn't comp the obviously late meal, even tho telling our server tonight was not good. When I mentioned I wanted the manager, the waitress brought the corrected bill with no eye-contact. Just tacky."

  • "My adult daughter and I enjoyed a delicious dinner here before we went to a play. She has a strict gluten free diet and it was nice that she had some items to choose fr and that they were clearly marked on the menu. Both of us were very pleased with our choices. I liked the online reservation method you have and we were seated promptly even though it was very crowded. We will certainly go back to your restaurant."

  • "Food was bland, few bright spots, stuffed Chile Relleno was packed with flavor, could have used more cheese, but rice and beans bland, lacked flavor. Corn bread was good, service was good, not excellent, food was hot and as described, little pricey, spent over $100 but did not feel like a $100 meal."

  • "There was a time when Z Tejas was THE nouveau mexican eatery and gathering place. Those days have long since past. With a menu out of date, facilities looking extremely worn, an incredibly noisy ambiance, poor service, and waitresses that look like they've dined on the cuisine about 1,000 times more often than the USDA nutrition guidelines, this location of Z Tejas is definitely taking advantage of the fact that it does well because of its location inside South Coast Plaza and not because of its product. Also, don't count on your reservation making a difference. It could mean up to 30 minutes late that you'll be seated. Management needs to look at this restaurant with fresh eyes; maybe some eye drops would help clear the fog."

  • "It is a great place to grab a bite to eat before heading over to Segerstrom Theater. The corn bread alone is worth a visit."

  • "Service was friendly, but odd. We had no silverware/napkins; we asked our waiter for them when he gave us our guacamole. Nothing happened for quite a while; a receptionist went by, & my husband asked her for them. She brought them. Then we waited for a very long time for our salads; instead, they were delivered with the entrees. After eating the salads, the entrees were of course cold. If we had wanted them at the same time, we would have gone to a fast food place."

  • "Had dinner here before an event at OCPA. Let the server know we were going to the show and he was great about getting our food to us quickly. Food was very good and portion sizes generous without being overwhelming. Kids mene included a garden salad as well as the usual kid friendly items. Noise level was a bit high making hearing what was being said across the table challenging at times. And we had to ask someone to find our waiter to get our check but it was a really busy night and he came quickly once he was told we were looking for him. Definitely will be going back."

  • "In the past we have had so many poor dining experiences on Valentine's Day that we keep it low key now. Our server was excellent at Z Tejas, we ordered appetizers, drinks, one ordered off the special menu and the rest of us ordered from the regular menu. Great dining experience, we were not rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Thanks Z Tejas! We'll be back!"

  • "I've enjoyed dinner several times at Z'Tejas prior to attending performances at SCFPA. The food is delicious, the price is right, and the service is friendly and speedy. Happy Hour prices are a bonus."

  • "The service was outstanding. From the front desk seating us immediately, to our server being on top of our every request. The food was dang good, too. The street tacos are very tasty. Love that this is a place you can go for a romantic date, or bring the kids. Everyone is comfortable here."

  • "We love coming here for the appetizers. There are lots to choose from and we can share. Love the little shrimp tostadas with avocado."

  • "Server completely ignored us because we had a party of 8 for dinner with only 1 bottle of wine. Wait 30 minutes to get the bill and waited another 15 minutes to get it back. So noisy that we couldn't hear each other. Difficult to have conversation during dinner time."

  • "First, I ordered a Knob Creek and the waiter did not know if they had it or even what kind of alcohol it was. 15 minutes later, none of us had our drinks yet and I was informed they did not have Knob Creek and he did not know what to offer in its place. I got up and went to the bar myself only to find out that, other than Jim Beam - a well burbon, they had no whiskey. That is just a poorly stocked bar no matter how you slice it. Lots of tequila but so what. The food was ok but nothing special. They kept pushing tableside guacamole. Just make it in the kitchen. I think this place may have been good 10 years ago but the southwest thing needs some updating. I won't be back."

  • "We brought mom to dinner before the theater for her 80th birthday. They held our table even though we were 20 mins late (stuck in traffic). We called and they were very nice even though they were swamped on a Friday night. We appreciated that very much...food was delicious, portions were generous and everyone enjoyed their food. I put on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and it was not acknowledged.....that was a little disappointing. Overall good quality and we will return."

  • "We had a really nice, early, casual NYE dinner at Z Tejas ~ we were a little disappointed that the other patrons were not dressed up at least a little bit for dinner, but our server was excellent and the food was excellent too. We will make return trips on a regular basis for a great dining experience!"

  • "This is a great restaurant to dine before going to performing arts event. Our reservation was ready when we arrived. Our server arrived immediately to take our drink order and explain the menu. The number and quality of appetizers is outstanding. We ended up ordering four appetizers to share. Fresh baked corn bread was served which went well with appetizers. The Happy Hour appetizers are half price. Our food came out in a timely manner. Our server was great. We will definitely return to this restaurant in the future."

  • "I had made reservation weeks in advance for a Christmas gathering and since none of my friends had been to Ztejas I wanted them to have a great experience. I had confimed the reservation the week of and the day of the reservation. My friends showed up early and to everybodies surprise my reservation was never to be found. After 15min they were able to find it, to make the experience worst we had 3 different servers helping us we didnt even know who our server was. Drinks took a long time and the food order didnt come all at once. Everybody had to wait to eat until everybody got their food..I will think twice before going back"

  • "This is a very good midscale restaurant for South Coast Plaza, much better than fast food and less expensive than many of the finer dining establishments in the mall. Happy Hour specials (food and alcohol) from 5-7 PM weekdays are a very good deal. The bar was totally full as we arrived early for our 6:00 dinner reservation (but we luckily found a bar table). Waitress Janell (spelled "Z" according to her badge) was very friendly and helpful. Weekend brunch with eggs benedict is also unusual for a mall."

  • "My group was running late in holiday traffic and would likely forfiet either dinner or be late for our night at the theatre. But waiter Kevin saved the day with prompt and accurate service while beig very personable and attentive to our individual needs. He navigated my grandson's specific order, correctly had my wife's and my dinner split in the kitchen, and followed up with the wine and beer - plus a prompt check and payment. Great job and refreshing to experience. Easily made the theatre."

  • "I have Celiac Disease so finding a great restaurant where I can eat and be safe is important to me. Z'Tejas fits that bill wonderfully! I know that the staff are well trained to keep the gluten products away from me and my food. Their Wild Mushroom Enchilada's and Salmon with vegetables are the BEST! That's why I Love Z'Tejas Southwest Grill!"

  • "We were surprised it was Happy Hour on a Sunday evening. Our waiter was wonderful. We asked his opinion and he was honest about our choices. The street tacos are good. We were given hotter salsa when we asked. Portions are big even at happy hour."
