Zona RosaDelicious, but....This is the third time I've eaten at Zona Rosa and while I love the food, I have to say that the value is just not there. I took a friend there for her birthday...we each ordered the tacos...two very small tacos with minimal toppings and they were $15-16 for each entrée. For dessert we shared a crepe that had a BIT of caramel drizzle, a few berries and it was $7 or 8; if there was something substantial to this dessert I might understand it. Overall, we had two taco entrees, four sangrias, chips and salsa and the dessert crepe; with tip, I dropped $98!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner with lots ofGreat dinner with lots of interesting and tasty options.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood GemZona Rosa is definitely a neighborhood gem. The food is outstanding and servers are hard working and attentive. Down sides are there and you have to be prepared and accepting of them in order to fully enjoy all that Zona Rosa has to offer. The key down side is that the space is SMALL - so it's hard to go without a reservation and the noise level is off the charts, so don't go expecting to be able to have a deep conversation there - for that, an outside table under powerful heat lamps is the best bet. The food portions are SMALL and somewhat pricey but we found that they filled us up so we weren't bursting at the seams and the dishes are unique, beautifully presented, and oh so flavorful. Interesting drinks but need a wine based margarita!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique Mexican CuisineThe food at Zona Rosa is nothing like I have found in the San Jose area -- authentic, unique and delicious!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMexican with a TwistWe enjoyed a very good lunch at Zona Rosa, the food was very tasty, it was not the usual Mexican food that you find in most Mexican restaurants. The guacamole and chips are worth a visit! I had the salmon tacos, and my friend had the blue corn enchiladas....yum! They make their own chips here. The service was very friendly and spot on. The restaurant is very small, but they also have outdoor seating. Will definitely return.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBig mexican flavors in teeny place!Fantastic upscale mexican food in a teeny little place on The Alameda. This place could very easily be overlooked, but you would be missing out on some delicious grub. How can you pass up guacamole with bacon and pistachios? The taqueria offerings are fantastic including scallops with butternut squash. My friend had the salmon tacos and was humming with delight as she ate. The service was a little slow, but I think that was more the pace of the restaurant itself. It's not a place for a rushed meal. All in all, we will definitely be back for more!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our favorite restaurantsMy wife and I go to Zona Rosa almost every week because we love the food and atmosphere. I highly recommend it.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good hidden gemReservations are highly recommended due to extremely small size of the restaurant.
Service was kind and helpful. Could've been a bit faster.
First we ordered drinks. I ordered a Horchata and my fiancé, a chelada.
Horchata was excellent, though small. The Chelada, same size, was the best I've had. Beats puerto azul any day.
Tortilla chips with guacamole topped with pistachio and crispy bacon. To me, unusual but very interesting.
Ricotta empanadas were good, the sauce was the best. Crab and shrimp ceviche was our favorite.
Braised pork tacos were moist and flavorful. Portions are small, but do pack a lot of bold flavor.
Horchata ice cream with squash fritters, must try.
I would highly recommend Zona Rosa, can't wait for their expansion5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat authentic mexican foodgreat authentic mexican food the best that we have had5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat neighborhood gem!I've been here a number of times and the restaurant is excellent. Latin /Mexican style tapas, best to share plates. They were out of many dishes early in the evening on a weekend so prepare several choices before ordering to prevent disappointment. Our server Mindy was an absolute delight, hope to get her on our next visit.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall but lovely restaurantSmall but lovely restaurant serving unique and very fresh Mexican food. Dishes were tasty and light, not the typical fare
found in similar venues. Wonderful salsas, guacamole was special, carnitas moist and very delicious.
Servers were welcoming. Clearly the owner is proud of his thoughtful offerings.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMTiny place with big, boldTiny place with big, bold flavor. Definitely need reservations for this restaurant. Only 6 tables inside and about the same on patio. Great, friendly service. Food was amazing. Highly recommend the fish tacos, carnitas, and don't forget empanadas! Beans tasted like someone's grandma made them from scratch! A little on the pricey side but worth the "farm to table" quality.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAdorable place. Great useAdorable place. Great use of space. Tight quarters. Creative menu.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMZona Rosa a Local Favorite!I have been to Zona Rosa 5 times now and it is currently my favorite place to go. The food, service, and ambiance are by far superior to most restaurants, this place is definitely a neighborhood gem! So happy happy they are expanding, current place is very charming but a bit cozy. The Blue Corn Masa Crepes are a must have, I love the twist they do on guacamole - they add pistachios and bacon. Yum!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA tiny, tiny place, so ifA tiny, tiny place, so if you want a seat inside, make a reservation. We had to wait about 20 minutes with a reservation. However, the food was well worth the wait. Absolutely delicious Mexican food and not the usual "combo with rice and beans" stuff. Also very interesting was the red sangria, flavored with fruit, and clove and cinnamon. It is better without ice than with. Definitely will come back and wish them luck on their expansion plans.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA hidden treasureThe food and service was wonderful. The dinning area is small so reservations are recommend. It is so quaint and the staff are so friendly.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food. UniqueVery good food. Unique offering of selections and quality fresh ingridenients. Service attentive and friendly. But very crowded seating inside. Look forward to going back and setting outside. A little on the pricey side. Best scallop tacos! Be patient. The waitress was working by herself and service was a bit slow.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service-hopeGreat food and service-hope you expand, it is small.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here was excellent. The food here was excellent. Small Tapas style portions, huge on flavor, texture, and presentation. Service was excellent. This place defines neighborhood gem.
