A word from Zona Rosa
Small plate Mexican dining in downtown San Jose"s historic Rose Garden.

Our dishes honor the cookery of Mexico with a focus on masa. The cuisine of Zona Rosa is Mexican but with a twist. Executive Chef, Anna Zamora Pizzo takes the components of an authentic Mexican dish and adds modern flavors and fresh seasonal ingredients. Everything is home-made and made from scratch. We hand press our tortillas using fresh, organic corn masa from La Finca.

We strive to be a farm to table kitchen and whenever possible, we use local and organic meats, poultry & produce as well as sustainable seafood sanctioned by Monterey Bay Seafood Watch.

Zona Rosa features wines, beer and coffee from local vendors including J Lohr, Barefoot Coffee, and Russian River Brewing Company.

Zona Rosa is a very tiny restaurant, but it's quaint with a cute and homey feel. The food was very tasty - they put a unique spin on Mexican food. The highlight for us was the guacamole topped with huge bacon strips ( that we used as chip replacements ) and pistachios. SO tasty! I also loved my Antoniojito drink - white rum, mint, ginger, and coconut. Great food and friendly servers. I'll definitely go back!

This place had an amazing reputation and yet it consistently outperforms it. A lot of times, attempts to present a high end Mexican experience get lost in heavy sauces and deeply fried everything. Well, there's none of that here. Just ultra high quality ingredients cooked and seasoned to perfection in a way that feels light and healthy, while also blowing away any competitors in a 300 mile radius for flavor. A gem. A diamond. Epic.

The food is absolutely amazing. BURSTING with fresh flavors. If I was investing in the restaurant business, I would be begging these folks to let me help them expand. Too good to not have more tables for everyone to enjoy. I will be back every time I am in the area! Outstanding!

We had a reservation for 630 on saturday night, party of two. Three employees/waitresses looked at us without any acknowledgement. When we told them of our reservation (to the lady with her back to us who never turned around), we were told our table was outside and to seat ourselves they would be with us soon. Pretty poor if you ask me. They also had run out of salsa by 6pm. Pretty bad for a Mexican restaurant on a Saturday night. As she handed us our bill, she says "you didn't want dessert did you?" For being a small restaurant, their service is terrible. Food is ok but not good enough to compensate for their lack of customer service. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone, you're better off at Chipotle.

I had been looking forward to bringing my date here for the last month. My first visit was great--great food, great service, yet a little on the slow side but not enough to prevent me from going back. WOW what a dramatic change. The noise level inside was almost imbareable. We sat down to eat at 7:20. At 8:30 they asked us to change tables because they had a foursome waiting, so we graciously moved, by the front door--big mistake! Our entre was brought to us at 8:40. The waitress continually made excuses, and laughed about it, always blaming someone else in the kitchen. Would I go back here again? Maybe, on their slowest day when I could get someone to provide me with decent customer services!

The tastiest food ever. Magical food with flavors of Mexico. Never "hot" or "spicy" because it is expected or easy way to mask a mediocre dish, the care put into the menu and variety of offerings is remarkable, salmon tacos, carnitas, guacamole. You cannot go wrong here. The restaurant is cozy I wish they had more space. They also have a location in Los Gatos now.

If you did not make reservations expect to wait or sit outside on the small patio. Because the place is so small, seats about forty. the poor servers are on top of each other. The is a casual, no rush place. So if you want to dine and dash this is not the place. We started off with cocktails. The drink with jalapeno is a pleasant surprise to the palate. You can not go wrong with any of the choices. We and the empanades which and a orange sauce that you could have licked the bowl. Ask for a spoon to get every last drop. We had the relleno and the chircurri tacos. The meat on the toco were a little too salty and I would have like the sauce on the top of the meat to add some contrast to the meat. The relleno is the best. All the flavors work and you can not stop eating.

Very different Mexican restaurant - very creative cuisine, fresh ingredients wonderful flavors! Begins with their tres salsa - 3 different salsa served with crisp tortilla strips. The tacos are very good with a variety of fillings. The cazuelas are also excellent. Love the hibiscus iced tea. Make reservations as Zona Rosa is small. They also have specials so you can always try something new.

We had to get in and out very quickly. They weren't very busy due to game 7 of World Series. Still, they respected our situation and helped us out without feeling rushed. The food was excellent. We shared scallop tacos and sweet potato enchiladas. Very tasty and not too heavy or too light.

If we lived in San Jose, this would become our new favorite spot. Very good, very flavorful food. Portions are just right, not your typical american-ized mexican food. Had the Tres Salsas to start, then the Chimichurri tacos and Chorizo Mole tacos. A nice margarita as well. Amazing.

Zona Rosa is charming. The food is tasty and a cut above your typical Mexican menu. Anyone looking for more than taqueria offerings will be in for a treat. The frijoles de la olla had me sold. Too bad the place is so small. Makes it difficult to have a private meal when the next table is inches away.

First, I love that I can walk to Zona Rosa! The guacamole is fabulous and generous. The specialty limeade was delicious with strawberry and basil. I had the chimichurri tacos, and the steak was tender. So often steak tacos can be tough or gristly, but these were perfect. So happy to have a place where I love the steak tacos. The food is a hit every time I go. Service can be hit or miss but was great this time due to being a slower night. It is worth it regardless, just make sure to make reservations, because they often have a huge wait. So happy to have this gem in the neighborhood!

This has been my favorite "Mexican" restaurant for some time, but it seems to have fallen off a bit lately. They recently got a liquor license, so we ordered a cocktail and some appetizers. We got the apps but the cocktails didn't come until about 10 minutes later. Poor planning. The cocktails were ok but nothing I would order again. One too hot; one too sweet. They need a new mixologist to figure out the balance. The guacamole with bacon and pistachios was great, as usual. The queso fundido...yikes...what happened there? A few other things were good, but nothing was as great as it used to be. I will return and give them another chance in case it was just an off night for them. Otherwise, I will have to find a new favorite spot.

This was a great place to meet friends - we chose to sit outside, even though it is on The Alameda and a little noisy, it was fine. It was actually too loud inside the restaurant. The food was very good, very fresh and well presented. Both of my friends also liked this restaurant. One of us had the shrimp tacos, very good, two of us had the chicken enchiladas which were very good.

amazing. Came here for brunch for my mom's birthday and had chilaquiles, carnitas tacos, banana walnut pancakes, papas gordas and the cafe de la olla. Everything was delicious. This place should be way more popular. If we were in SF, there would be a two hour wait, but since we're in San Jose, we can get seated right away :) It was a fantastic experience.

We come here about once every 2 months, and after 5 plus times, we have never been disappointed. The Francisco Libre margaritas are about as good as it gets, and we always start with the 3 salsas which are also about as good as it gets. We had the duck and the flank steak this time. Both perfect. (We have gotten the duck before - it's good enough to get every time!) There is a reason this place is regularly pleasantly full of guests having a great time - Zona Rosa never fails to delight.

This place did not float my boat. Try it for yourself though. I was not a fan but I appreciate what they were going for which was an modern, classy Mexican restaurant. The scallop tacos were not bad except they drizzled this sweet sauce on it. The side of beans were the best thing there. We also ordered the guacamole which was inedible because they used unripened avocados which gave it a bitter flavor. They also topped the gucamole with pistachios which was fine except pistachio skins have a nutty, slightly bitter flavor which didn't compliment the bitterness of the avocado. Decor was nice. Place is small and LOUD. The waitstaff seemed way too busy to be attentive in the slightest.
