Diner Reviews
  • "We dined on Saturday, 4/12/14, and it was our first time dining there. The waitstaff was amazing, and the food was great. The highlights of the evening were definitely the visit by the sommilier, the bottle of bordeaux we had, and the chocolate torte + cappucinos after dinner! Fantastic service, and fun experience. We will be back!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Zoes, both indulging in the 3 -course tasting. It is well worth the money for the caliber of food and service. Would highly suggest the bone-in ribeye and the oxtail soup, and definitely spring for the wine pairing!"

  • "It seems the staff is more interested in the next table than our table. For the price and experience, if they don't pick it up, they will be in trouble ."

  • "We chose the pairing menu with wine. The food was beyond good! The sommelier came and explained each wine in detail and how it was paired with each course. We had to share all flavors. Unusual sauces and foods paired for incredible dishes. The lamb was perfect. Service was impeccable and we will be back very soon!"

  • "All in my party found the steaks we were served to have little taste. They just were not good. The sides were okay, especially the crab macaroni and cheese. I had heard good things about the restaurant, so was disappointed."

  • "Hit for a $50 corkage fee. Nothing special on the food side, standard steak and seafood menu. Service friendly ambience not on par with an upscale restaurant."

  • "Zoe's is always a great place to experience wine. The wine list is detailed, the prices are reasonable. If you get stuck as to which wine to order, ask Marc, one of few who I would allow to order wine for me. Oh, yeah, the food is great too. Enjoy a wine flight with the menu that includes exquisitely prepared game"

  • "We are locals in the area and heard about Zoe's and were looking forward to our dining experience. We had the lobster lobs and it was the best experience of the entire meal. Our waiter was attentive but the quality of the food left a lot to be desired. Our waiter highly recommended the steak and explained the quality was much better than Ruth Chris or any other restaurant in the area. What a disappointment. I ordered the NY Strip that looked more like a Delmonico. It was full of gristle and lacked taste. My first clue should have been they offered sauces to accompany which any good steak shouldn't need a sauce. My companion had the rockfish was just mediocre."

  • "Had dinner with my wife, sister, and best friend. Didn't know what to really expect being that it doesn't look like much from the outside, and also neither of us had heard of Zoes, but I must say it was a great dining experience. Great staff and the food was excellent. I had the cowboy cut and a lobster tail and both were cooked to perfection. My wife had the chicken gnocchi which she also enjoyed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and personally I can't wait to go back. Bravo Zoes!!!!!"

  • "The Michael Shaps wine dinner was superb!!! Had to be the best wine dinner we've ever attended. The chef's pairings matched the wine perfectly. Can't wait to come back!"

  • "Our second visit to Zoe's was even better than the first, this time for Valentine's Day. Too bad the heavly volume preventing Mark from providing his stellar wine paring service, but the food was outstanding and our waiter Tim was fantastic. My wife finally found a place that can properly prepare a lobster tail! Even the valet remembered our vehicle without prompting. All around a great evening!"

  • "Great to be surprised with a better than expected dining experience, that's what we found at Zoes. The food was great, the wine selection is very good (price range is extreme, but you can find some great wines in any price range), the service was spot on with both our server Kate and the wine connoisseur (can't remember her name, sorry). My wife and I chose the wine pairing meal, we love good wine but don't know a lot about choosing one, Zoes does, it made the dinner all work. We have spent more in this area for a lot less, we will be back to Zoes. Bob & Tammy"

  • "I had never been to Zoe's and took a shot based on online reviews and Zoe's website itself. Glad I did! Exactly what I was looking for. Creative original outstanding food, comfortable trendy upscale feel and ambience. Our booth was very private while still being able to feel the vibe of the surroundings. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, completely professional. Our server was more of a guide through our meal, helping us through the menu selections, wine recommendations and the deserts ensuring we completely enjoyed our evening. Zoe's isn't the cheapest place you can eat, but it's worth every penny."

  • "We selected the four course menu with wine pairing. Sommelier Angela Jackson listened to our likes and dislikes and selected perfect wines for each course. We had the salad of the day which had a delicious green goddess dressing and cured salmon. Appetizers were lob pops complimented by delicious blackberry deduction. We each selected the 6 oz filet mignon and it was absolutely perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, On the side we ordered the mac and cheese to share and it is a meal within itself! Topped dinner off with a cheese platter which was excellently displayed with almonds, blueberries, figs, a fruit paste and warm bread. Everyone was customer oriented from our valet to our server, Kate, to Ms. Jackson. We will be back!"

  • "We started our date with Espresso Martinis which were great. Our server, Tim, explained everything about the restaurant, menu, wine list, and resident sommelier. We decided on the 4 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Wife-Spinach and tomato salad w/ fried goat cheese, LOB pops, 6 oz filet mignon, apple crisp. Me-THE iceberg, shrimp tempura, 6 oz filet mignon, dessert tasting. All four courses were paired with wines based on 3 questions from the sommelier: 1) prefer white or red? 2) sweet or dry? 3) adventurous or conservative? Marc, the sommelier, was extremely knowledgeable and attentive and took great care of us. WE WILL RETURN AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND ZOE'S!!!"

  • "I decided to take my Wife here in celebration of our 1 year Anniversary after being recommended by a good friend. The experience here is exactly that of a great romantic dinner. Their in-house Sommelier, Marc Sauter, with his extensive knowledge in respect to all levels of wine, was able to delicately pair our 3 course meals with the best wines in the world down even down to our desserts. The menu is no Cheesecake Factory menu but, that is because everything Zoé's chefs make is made to absolute perfection. We can't wait to attend one of their upcoming dinner events. Thanks for the wonderful experience!"

  • "I've known of Zoes for some time through reviews and word-of-mouth and finally got a chance to try it for myself. I was happy to see that Zoes is one of the upper scale restaurants that are offering cheese trays. The selection was outstanding and was presented very well. I had the surf and turf (shrimp and steak) that was prepared exactly as ordered with really good taste. I had the butterscotch pudding with pretzels. Whole sweet and salty are combinations that are sought after and I often love, it wasn't so much the case here. The pudding was very good but I was not fond of the pretzels. I would have almost preferred some small bits of bitter chocolate or some less sweet addition (vanilla wafer) for a flavor enhancement."

  • "We have been coming to Zoes for years when we are in the area and for special occasions. The service is always excellent and the food is always very good to excellent. Part of the menu changes regularly while some menu items are staples so there is always something on the menu to please everyone. We highly recommend Zoes."

  • "Had an incredibly enjoyable experience at Zoe's. First impressions count, and it says something if the valet doesn't even give you a ticket for your car. Their restaurant week selections were all mouthwatering, along with the wine to complement it. Service and ambience were perfect. It is a bit on the pricier side, but every penny is worth it."

  • "Wonderful dinner enjoyed during Restaurant Week in VB. Food was excellent and service was fast and personal. Arrived ahead of our reservation and my party, and the place was quite busy, but the hostess offered seat me immediately. Chose to wait at the bar, and was served a perfect rye manhattan by a very attentive bartender. When my party arrived we were seated right away. Wait staff was available when we were ready and never interrupted our conversation. The wine list is one of the very best in Virginia, and there was no confusion of availability or vintage with our selection. Enjoyed a diverse and tasty cheese plate as an appetizer. My filet was cooked to perfection, and everyone of our party was pleased with there meals. Recommended!"

  • "We went with some friends during restaurant week and we're not disappointed. The food was delicious, especially the blue crab mac n cheese. An absolute must if you dine here, I have never tasted anything so delicious! The wine list was nice and our server, Stuart, was exceptional. Very friendly and thorough! All and all, we had a great time and will definitely be back."

  • "We went to Zoe's for Restaurant Week in VB. Fortunately, we were able to get a reservation. The food was superb. Notable was the sauce for the shrimp appetizer and the fried ice cream dessert. The steak was perfectly prepared. What is also great, is that the portions are eatable--not the huge overflowing plates. We had a great bottle of wine selected by the sommelier. This is a fantastic restaurant in Virginia Beach. We are already planning the next family special event to be held there."

  • "I listed noise level as energetic since we were there for New Years Eve. My wife and I were also there for a private wine tasting and follow on dining in the back room. It was a good experience with different ways to enjoy and identify wines."

  • "Josh reserved us two seats at the bar, he was very helpful on the phone. Lauren was, as usual, very knowledgeable about the wines we were inquiring about. Her service was impeccable, one small example being my water glass was never less than half full. Marc talked to us about the busy holiday season and wine in general, one of our favorite topics. Cheese board was great with four options that were all different in taste and texture. Strip was cooked to a perfect mid-rare and seasoned nicely. The only drawback of the night was the very skinny asparagus. They were grilled perfectly but I am not a fan of the texture. My wife's wedge salad was nice with the bacon having a good smoky quality. Her shrimp was a little under seasoned."

  • "My husband and I had a 915 reservation and arrived around 9 & were.immediately escorted to our table. As always, even though they were extremely busy, service was amazing from the valet to the hostesses to the servers and server assistants. We had appetizers, entrees and dessert and enjoyed every bit of it. Bacon wrapped rockfish for me, steak for him. Delightful evening. One of our favorite details was the valet remembering us AND turning on the seat warmers for us!"

  • "Even though we had to be snowbirds because our reservation was at 5:30 (all we could get for a last minute New Year's Eve night out) we had a fantastic time. Our meal was wonderful from start to finish - the gorgonzola salad dressing was out of this world and our steaks (with hollandaise for mine) were cooked to perfection. Our server Tim was knowledgable, friendly and he didn't try to rush us through our meal. The "Hot Chocoloate" dessert was a great ending to this wonderful evening We will definitely go back."

  • "Great food and great steaks for sure. WIne selection very good but overpriced. Bar wine of Leese-Fitch was priced per glass at price of a bottle. We were offered a "special" Venge Cab for dinner at a special 1/2 price of $79.99 for New Years; when we looked at the on line wine list we found the regular price to be $99.99 not the $159 we were told. Otherwise food was delicious but servers was obviously pushing to move us in and out as fast as possible; sorry, I don't care if its New Years; if I pay $250 for a dinner for 2, I want to take my time during dinner. The new section of the restaurant is nice but bright and stark; lacks ambiance."

  • "We went to Zoe's for dinner on New Years Eve and the food as always was fabulous. We had reservations, arrived early and were seated promptly. For dinner we had the cowboy cut ribeyes which were cooked perfectly (medium rare for us) and the macaroni and cheese with crab along with grilled asparagus were perfect. For desert we had the hot chocolate and practically licked the bowl clean. We love Zoe's, it is our go-to restaurant for special occassions and highly recommend it to anyone who loves fine dining in a warm, friendly atmosphere."

  • "Food & Wine Paring is a wonderful dining experience! The Sommelier, Mark, is very knowledgeable and took us on a journey with each course. The steaks at Zoes are flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. I absolutely loved the edamame hummus and the blue crab mac and cheese! The dining room is cozy and seating is comfortable, nice for date night or celebrating a romantic evening. Zoes employees a remarkable staff of friendly and professional individuals. Our food was prepared to our liking, proper temperatures, and throughout the meal we never felt rushed nor did we feel bothered by the wait staff."

  • "Everything I ordered came out barely warm including the filet Mignon. Waitress was more of sales person (attempting to sell appetizers and side dishes to pad the bill in my opinion) Waitress not attentive and also misrepresented time took to prepare meal and did not follow through on side dish as appetizer - came with the meal when I asked for it first as an appetizer) Food tasted good and I was starving so I did not send back. Best thing I had was a delicious martini - thank you bartender :-)"

  • "It was nasty outside but warm & cozy inside. This is the 3rd year that my husband & I have gone to Zoes to celebrate our anniversary. It was lovely as usual. We had the tasters menu and nothing could have made it better (unless the food could have had all it's calories removed before eating!). The food was delicious! Our server was attentive but not hovering. He made some excellent suggestions. They even had an anniversary card waiting for us on the table!"
