  • "As first timer's here, our late Father's Day brunch was absolutely perfect! Our waiter, Kyle , was very attentive and very personable. He had great suggestions on both food and drink. We ordered the huevos rancheros, which was very different from any other place, and was excellent; the flat iron steak melted in your mouth and the accompanying sauce was oh so good. Our other entree was a lobster-crab omelet, equally delicious, with big pieces of meat in it. For drinks we had peach margaritas and Mexican mules, a variation of Moscow mules but with more kick! Definitely would have them both again , although there were many other delicious sounding drinks that we 'd love to try. Zocalo's gets an A+ rating in our book!"

  • "My friend and I went there for dinner and the waiter was prompt to get our drinks but what ensued thereafter was ridiculous. He came by our table asking for our order every 5-7 minutes and when we said we would let him know as we were talking he paced back and forth past our table. It was clear we had to order so after about 20 minutes we did. The food was great but the waiter kept coming back every 5-7 minutes interrupting our conversation. He kept the drinks refilled, but once he head we didn't want dessert, he promptly brought the check and began pacing so he could be paid and no more refills. He wanted us in and he wanted us out. The restaurant wasn't crowded. I doubt seriously that I will return where I am not wanted."

  • "This was my 2nd trip to Zocalo. I didn't give it 5 stars because even though we had a reservation thru open table and had confirmed over the phone they seemed confused when we arrived. Our table wasn't ready for our party of 8 and at the time they were not busy. They scrambled for a few minutes then took us back to a 4-top for some reason then sent us back to the waiting area. Eventually we pulled a few tables together ourselves. Mind you this all happened in a about a 10 minute span of time but something to be mindful of if you wanted to bring a big party in together. After that our waitress was great and very attentive overall the food was wonderful and they had a great craft cocktail list."

  • "This restaurant literally made me think of Gordon Ramsay and kitchen nightmares and how a restaurant would be after his magic touch. Note the noise level is minimal for us coz we cannot hear so I could not assess that. Though it is a very cozy atmosphere in the middle of restaurant row of kcmo. Loved it here!"

  • "Went Zocalo for dinner with a friend in town from STL. From the time we sat down to the time we left, 3 hours later, we had amazing time. Our server, Claire, was phenomenal and gave us great recommendations on drinks and food. My friend had never tried Fish tacos before and with some persuasion from me and Claire, we got him to try it. He was hooked. The food was cooked to perfection and the pitchers of margaritas were amazing. Could not have asked for a better dinner, and the fact that Zocalo is local makes it even better. Love supporting local restaurants since the food is typically local and the service is typically better."

  • "My husband flew in at 7 and I needed a nice place to take him at the last minute. I really wanted seafood but found Zocalo on open table and thought Mexican would be fine. They had a couple of seafood options that we ordered and were blown away by how great the food was. I would recommend to anyone. "

  • "The food was excellent! Starting from the 5 choices of salsas and 3 different types of queso dips to amazing unique twists on otherwise traditional entree options, Zocalo's food was outstanding. We also enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. While they have a great outdoor patio seating option, even those diners that choose to stay indoors are able to enjoy the outdoor breezes with both sides of the restaurant opening up during ideal weather days. While we initially hesitated to dine at Zocalo because of some of the negative reviews regarding the service, my wife and I had a very different experience. We thought the service was excellent and very attentive."

  • "I really enjoy your place typically. Our waitress this time was very poor however. She was crabby and inattentive. Forgot the entire second round of drinks for over thirty minutes for my date and her friend. Then when she finally brought them and we told her it was too late she still charged us for them...at least we got a table outside and the weather was nice. And the fish tacos were quite good. "

My chicken had such a flavorful sauce with "terrorized" carrots on the side. Fabulous!! We didn't try any of the tequilas, but it appears this is the place for tequila connoisseurs."

  • "This was our first experience at Zocala. We tried the Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers as an appetizer followed by the Empanadas for me and the Chorizo Meatloaf for my husband. Everything was well prepared, nicely presented, and very good. We especially enjoyed the Poppers. I thought the Empanadas could have been spicier. A very pleasant meal with good service by Robert. We look forward to dining at Zocala again. We found the decor very pleasant!"

  • "We've been to Zocalo for lunch previously, but not for dinner. This was a great choice for dinner before we went to the REP that evening. Service was quick, food was delicious, and drinks were strong! For food options, we started with the guacamole (traditional) and were pleased with the flavor - seemed to come out of the kitchen quickly which makes me think it was previously prepared for service & not exactly "fresh." For dinner, I chose an appetizer - the chicken nachos, while my husband had the mahi mahi. Both were good, I took a bite of his fish - good, but not what I wanted but he was very pleased. My nachos were outstanding! Next time we'll sit in the bar area for happy hour specials (price reductions on same items). Very good time!"

  • "Was on a date night with my wife seated next to table of 5 where there was food all over the floor and in a corner where someone had to put their bottom over our table to even get out of the booth. Waiters were huddled in a corner making jokes and laughing and no one ever waited on us. We waited for 15-20 minutes, then walked across the street to Capital Grille. Capital Grille treated us the way we like to be treated and is much more service oriented and cares about their customers. Would never go back."

It was beautiful weather (brings people to the Plaza) and it was Big XII Tournament weekend (hotels were packed) and yet the manager had servers taking over 6 tables, there was only one bartender and the manager was taking tables rather than working the restaurant so he could make some money. There wasn't a hostess that we saw either. HOWEVER, once we were sat and served, everything was 'ok'. Our server was rocking it."

  • "I'm Mexican (born and raised in Mexico) so I wasn't expecting much for the restaurant. Most restaurants that claim to be Mexican end up having "Taco-Bell" style cuisine. Not this one! Of course the food has been a little americanized but I love the somewhat authentic names they have like pozole, carne asada, chiles rellenos, etc. Everything is much more expensive than if I bought it in Mexico, the carne asada for example was $21, with $21 I could buy 3-4 pounds of beef to slap on the barbecue. The guacamole is $7, with $7 I could make 2 pounds of guacamole, etc, etc. The carne asada was really good though, I just wish they gave you some tortillas along with it to make some tacos. Barbacoa tacos are good as well, but you only get 3 :("

  • "What a great dining experience - a beautiful restaurant, lively ambience, top notch service and outstanding food! This is definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city for all around dining. My date and I had the filet and the duck and both were cooked perfectly, will definitely go back for those - and a good value compared to other Plaza restaurants. And what a great Latin based wine list, I didn't expect such thoughtful selections at a Mexican restaurant (I usually have the margaritas) and again, at a good value compared to other wine lists in the area. Thank you, we'll be back soon!"

Though I like the idea of the menu that features many traditional Mexican dishes with a unique twist to each, I found both Carne Asada and the Beef and Chicken Tacos a bit underwhelming. There is nothing poor about Zocalo and it is a nice setting, but overall, I feel you could do better for the money. Good overall, but not great."

  • "Good food and service; however, way TOO LOUD for conversation. Our group had to scream at one another to hear the closest person. We'd try the venue again but not in the bar area. The extended happy hour was appealing; however, we were sorry those prices did not carry over to the dining room. We chose to eat at the bar which ended up being a bad choice because we could not hear one another."
