Diner Reviews
  • "I believe only two people were working the lunch shift. Our waitress was hard to find. Spilled a drink and had to clean it up ourselves. Had to go and find a waitress and was told that the bartender and the waitress were helping eachother. But the bartender when I went to get her was on her cell phone. Just wished they paid more attention to the paying patrons."

  • "Great spot to stop before an event and easy to book. Food was spicy and chips were very salty! But service outstanding and great place for groups in CLE!"

  • "My first time at the restaurant. Good food Very good service. Seating was uncomfortable."

  • "The service for our dinner was awful. The waitress forgot to bring us our drinks on 5 different occasions. We had to remind her that we ordered and then she still forgot it. After waiting 2 hours and telling her twice we wanted to order dinner, she finally took our dinner order. I am generally pretty understanding and tolerant, but this experience was extreme. Unfortunately when I told a few people from work we were going to this restaurant, they warned me. This is supposedly common practice. The good parts: The guacamole was awesome. They made it at the table and we had her make it how we would like it. They also had happy hour $5 apps and drinks. They were a great deal."

  • "One of the best in the area for great Mexican. Fantastic margarita menu!"

  • "Drinks were great. Food was okay. Would go back if we wanted Mexican before a game or event, but it's a step below the ther restaurants in the neighborhood."

  • "Food took an incredibly long time to arrive. Upon arrival, we asked if we'd have enough time as we had to leave in 75 minutes for a show. We were assured we had plenty of time; after asking several times, we finally received part of our meal 15 minutes before we had to leave, and the other part 10 minutes before we had to leave."

  • "Place looked drab and dirty. Food nothing great. Almost empty at lunchtime. Would not go back. disappointed that this was on list of best restaurants in Cleveland."

  • "We arrived at Zocalo as a big rowdy group. They didn't mind and allowed us to continue to have a good time. Our table was not ready right away, but with 12 people in a group you can expect that was going to happen. The Key West Margarita was the best! Get one if you like coconut!"

  • "Food was delicious (I recommend the crab-crusted mahi-mahi). The service was extremely polite and prompt, and the margaritas were on point. Will definitely be back."

  • "A Mexican restaurant that can't even make a decent margarita. Service was horrible. Food wasn't much better. I think people only go here for the location."

  • "The food was average, good portions. The service was not as good as it could have been."

  • "From the ladies who welcomed us into the restaurant, to the lady who served us; service was GREAT... Everyone did their job with much enthusiasm and my date and I were left very impressed!"

  • "If you love tequilla, try it. If you love Mexican food, don't bother. Mexican food can be excellent with little effort, this food was frankly over-worked and not that great. I think in trying to make the food different, they lost sight of the end result. Disappointing."

  • "If I could rate this restaurant 0 stars I would. The food was the worst I have had in a Cleveland restaurant. I ordered the steak fajitas, the meat was so tough, you could not eat it in the flour tortilla and you could barely choke it down even after cutting it up into miniscule pieces. My date ordered a burrito dinner and he found a hair in his burrito. I ordered 2 margaritas and they were flavorless and watered down. The only good thing I can say about the experience was that the waitress provided good service. This restaurant is only in business because of where it is located, East 4th street but, with restaurants like this on the strip, it gives the street a bad reputation."

  • "Have the best chips and salsa around. Food and atmosphere was great! Our waiter was on the ball, getting drinks and making our visit even better."

  • "Best Chili Relleno ever. All the food was very good and very nicely priced. Only ding I would give was on the house margarita. "It's not sweet" the server promised. Turned out to be just a regular margarita-from-a-mix margarita. Either that or they did their best imitation of a mix. I switched to a XX Lager and all was well. I would definitely go back if I'm ever in Cleveland again"

  • "I have been to Zocalo multiple times. Nice food selection based on regional themes from Mexico. I travel all over Mexico and love the regional differences. Food not entirely authentic.....but a great Cleveland twist on regional tastes from Mexico that is different from many of the typical Mexican restaurants that are in the US. Ingredients seem very fresh and tasty. I like the vibe and the energy of the restaurant and the wait staff seems well trained and very personable. My only complaint.....every time I have been there the papertowel dispenser in the mens room is empty. There is no blow dryer. Minor point but somewhat irritating."

  • "The food was tired. The lettuce I received on my plate was brown & the guac was beginning to turn brown. The desert was average but boring."

  • "My hubby and I dined here on a special night out for my birthday. We had tickets to see Wicked and splurged on a hot tub room at a local motel so we were looking for somewhere yummy that wouldn't blow our budget away. The food was delicious and or coconut margaritas were fabulous. They were a little confused over our Open Table reservations though because we received an email asking why we didn't show up but that was our only issue."

  • "Our waitress was fantastic. We walked in with about 20 minutes for happy hour she gave us 3 drinks for the happy hour price. Excellent service she was on top of getting hot food to our table. She made sure out chip bowl was full and the drinks were flowing."

  • "My husband and I dined here for an early Sunday dinner (4:30pm) following a show at Playhouse Square. We had a great experience and we look forward to returning again! Attentive and quick service Low noise level All the house-made salsa, guacamole, chips, etc., all tasted very fresh! Delicious entrees: the bake chili relleno (with spinach and mushrooms) was a particularly good. Nicely presented dishes, all properly prepared, well-seasoned and garnished. Great drinks: reasonably priced, good size, quality spirits. Lots of choices for margaritas. Great dessert: the fried ice cream was pitch perfect. So glad I ordered it, I would go back again just for that. Entire menu is reasonably priced, lots of entree choices for around $15-18 dollars."

  • "Not bad but the food didn't wow me. The drinks and appetizers were amazing but the entree was underwhelming."

  • "This is the kind of restaurant in which they are not there to impress you, but you should be appreciative for getting to eat there. Good was mediocre.... Service slow and sparse. I ordered portobella mushroom fajita and was told onions are mixed with peppers a d can't be separated, so I opted for none. The chef refused to simply grill some onions in my dish... Too much work. As a result I received a fajita dish with just six mushrooms and no onions or anything else in the pan..... Kind of sad. This place will not go the extra mile so don't ask. Again... U are lucky to get to eat three!"

  • "food was unlike any other Mexican food I ever tasted portions and prices were good I just expected the food to taste like other Mexican food I've eaten drinks were very good and at a fair price party of 6 none of us liked the salsa or chips"

  • "I wouldn't rate it 5 star. The food was good but not true authentic mexican. My tacos were soggy due to the fish so I had to eat it with a knife and fork. I did get a complimentary fried ice cream for my birthday and the chips were really good. The salsa was okay."

  • "Took my wife, son and his girl friend for dinner. We where going to a show that night. We left ourselves an hour and a half for dinner., seated right away, server was pleasant, waited for chips and salsa, ordered our food waited 45 min. Ask the waiter about or order. Was told the kitchen lost our order, 5 min. Later our order showed up , food was cold , quality was poor. Left most our meal on the table. For Mexican food Taco Bell does a better job.dont waste your time or money here."

  • "The reservation was honored on a Saturday night without a wait which was worth it's weight in gold !! I felt the food was honestly overpriced for what it was - but the margaritas were of course a big hit ! I've been there twice - it's adequate and tasty but again.... over priced in my opinion."

  • "I've been to Zocalo before and was excited to return. We were seated promptly but that's about the only thing that happened promptly all evening. I LOVE the table side guacamole. Our server told us it would be a few minutes before he could make it. 25 minutes later, he did. Drinks from the bar took awhile. He told us when we were halfway done we should order more because they were taking a long time. Food took awhile and it was okay. It wasn't what I expected from a night downtown. Next time I'll try another restaurant on E. 4th before I go back here."
