Diner Reviews
  • "Patrick, our server was amazing! He was very attentive, even with a full restaurant. Great food and drinks!"

  • "a 3.5 but that wasn't an option. I was worried about what our party of 5 would experience given mixed reviews, but due to last minute search on OT, it was the only 6-7p slot Ressie we could find in the Gateway area. We were pleasantly surprised w/food quality & gluten free option. check out my detailed review on Urban Spoon. Only drawbacks were: * Key West margarita frozen had no kick which for the price, you'd expect it would. *chips- 1st batch seemed stale/chewy; 2nd batch warm and crispy but VERY greasy. *womens' restroom- water was SCALDING hot (visible STEAM) and no way to adjust; overflowing wastebaskets; unusable handicap stall which was a stop for someone w/flu or tequila flight rookie. Overall,-more satisfied than dissatisfied."

  • "I took a group of eight to this restaurant after a meeting. The table was ready when we got there. The atmosphere was fun and the food was good. The service was also very good. Very reasonably priced."

  • "Was there when Mexico was playing Croatia so the Mexican fans were a little loud. But food was good. Enjoyed my margarita and happy hour prices. Like the vibrancy and the design of the restaurant. Server was good and was efficient. The hostess could have smiled a little more - to be more welcoming."

  • "Food was great, Margaritas were better. The staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend it."

  • "I made reservations on one day's notice and we arrived with everything in place (party of 9). The atmosphere was lively and fun with multiple TVs playing World Cup Soccer. The facilities were clean, the service and food was good. Since I was the recommending person of our party, I was pleased to bring our crew to this venue and we had a great time. Many Thanks."

  • "I took a group of ten for dinner. Didn't know it was Taco Tuesday. The restaurant was extremely loud. This would be good for a game night but not much else"

  • "First time coming to your place. We were placed between 2 bachorlette parties. Both being extremely loud!!!! Even the waitress couldn't speak loud enough to take our orders. Very disappointed. Meal was OK but nothing to write home about. Was hoping for more of a wow factor considering that there is a Food Network Chef attached to this place. The waitress tried so hard to take care of us but it was beyond her control. The final note that killed it for us was the trip to the women's washroom. Toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor. The best was that there was a female employee leaving after she put some toilet paper in the stalls. So very sad to see it in that state. Really didn't even want to use the washroom. "

  • "Been dining here several times as E. 4th street is close to arena and ballpark. Had the combo this time ... lots of food and great presentation."

  • "Drink menu is way overpriced. Food was good but portions are off on certain dishes. The service was excellent though. "

  • "The food at Zocalo's is always great. It's very reasonably priced! The only problem I had this time around was the server wasn't very attentive and seemed to be constantly in a rush. Also all of the tables and booths I've ever sat in are very uncomfortable. The seats are low and the tables are high. Makes for an uncomfortable bad combination."

  • "Very beautiful restaurant upon arrival. Spacious nice décor no crowd. Beautiful day and asked to be seated in the sun in the front. We were told only parties of 7 or more were allowed in front even thought we saw two six top tables. My margarita tasted like a pina colada. Food I had the fajitas. Chicken way over cooked and dry. We were seating next to a table of about eight or 10 of rude adults and even ruder children. Very loud patronizing their kids of approximately 5 yrs old in age. Thanks but pass."

  • "I want to like this place but I am disappointed every time I eat there. The food quality is just horrible and nothing tastes right. Small portions too. "

  • "The reservation was for two. We got there about 9:15 which was 15 minutes past our reservation, but we were still quickly seated. It was very noisy and crowded when we got there and remained noisy. The bathrooms were a little trashed and the service was slow. It took at least 1/2 hour for the food to come out. We were told the kitchen was backed up. No idea if it is always that chaotic or there was something special going on. I ordered the carnitas which had good flavor, but wasn't given any of the usual pico de gallo or other garnishes. The rice was more of a wild blend and seasoned different than the common Mexican rice, and I wasn't a huge fan of it. The best part of my meal was the peach margarita and the chips and salsa. "

  • "The waiter seemed frazzled the entire time. He dropped a knife off of a plate on my friend's back, hit another of my friends in the head with a menu, everytime he filled my water he would do it over my head so condensation from the pitcher would drip all over me, and we sat for 30 minutes before he took our food order. The food was mediocre. All of my fellow diners had an issue with the food. My steak was dry and chewy, the peppers had a strange spice on them, my friend's chicken was dry and rubbery, and my friend's potatoes were far too spicy. The only thing I can be positive about is the drinks. "

  • "My girlfriends and I went to Zocalo on a Saturday night. I had never dined there before. The margaritas were excellent as well as the queso dip and guacamole sampler. The meals and salsa, however, were just ok. I was not too impressed with my enchiladas. They were dry. The rice that come with my meal was cold. Our waitress was running around like crazy so it was difficult to simply get refills on water. The restaurant does have a fun vibe and decor. Overall I had a good time, but can't say I was thrilled with the food."

  • "This was my 2nd trip to Zocala. I believe in giving restaurants more than one chance. Well, Zocala let me down again. The location is great! But that was about the only positive thing I can say. The food was terrible. Looked pretty but lacked flavor. The service was horrendous!! The waiter forgot to take half of our orders. He missed an entire side of the table! Meals were messed up and we waited forever for everything. There are too many choices downtown to ever return here."

  • "I believe only two people were working the lunch shift. Our waitress was hard to find. Spilled a drink and had to clean it up ourselves. Had to go and find a waitress and was told that the bartender and the waitress were helping eachother. But the bartender when I went to get her was on her cell phone. Just wished they paid more attention to the paying patrons."

  • "My first time at the restaurant. Good food Very good service. Seating was uncomfortable."

  • "The service for our dinner was awful. The waitress forgot to bring us our drinks on 5 different occasions. We had to remind her that we ordered and then she still forgot it. After waiting 2 hours and telling her twice we wanted to order dinner, she finally took our dinner order. I am generally pretty understanding and tolerant, but this experience was extreme. Unfortunately when I told a few people from work we were going to this restaurant, they warned me. This is supposedly common practice. The good parts: The guacamole was awesome. They made it at the table and we had her make it how we would like it. They also had happy hour $5 apps and drinks. They were a great deal."

  • "Drinks were great. Food was okay. Would go back if we wanted Mexican before a game or event, but it's a step below the ther restaurants in the neighborhood."

  • "Food took an incredibly long time to arrive. Upon arrival, we asked if we'd have enough time as we had to leave in 75 minutes for a show. We were assured we had plenty of time; after asking several times, we finally received part of our meal 15 minutes before we had to leave, and the other part 10 minutes before we had to leave."

  • "Place looked drab and dirty. Food nothing great. Almost empty at lunchtime. Would not go back. disappointed that this was on list of best restaurants in Cleveland."

  • "We arrived at Zocalo as a big rowdy group. They didn't mind and allowed us to continue to have a good time. Our table was not ready right away, but with 12 people in a group you can expect that was going to happen. The Key West Margarita was the best! Get one if you like coconut!"

  • "Food was delicious (I recommend the crab-crusted mahi-mahi). The service was extremely polite and prompt, and the margaritas were on point. Will definitely be back."

  • "A Mexican restaurant that can't even make a decent margarita. Service was horrible. Food wasn't much better. I think people only go here for the location."

  • "From the ladies who welcomed us into the restaurant, to the lady who served us; service was GREAT... Everyone did their job with much enthusiasm and my date and I were left very impressed!"

  • "If you love tequilla, try it. If you love Mexican food, don't bother. Mexican food can be excellent with little effort, this food was frankly over-worked and not that great. I think in trying to make the food different, they lost sight of the end result. Disappointing."

  • "If I could rate this restaurant 0 stars I would. The food was the worst I have had in a Cleveland restaurant. I ordered the steak fajitas, the meat was so tough, you could not eat it in the flour tortilla and you could barely choke it down even after cutting it up into miniscule pieces. My date ordered a burrito dinner and he found a hair in his burrito. I ordered 2 margaritas and they were flavorless and watered down. The only good thing I can say about the experience was that the waitress provided good service. This restaurant is only in business because of where it is located, East 4th street but, with restaurants like this on the strip, it gives the street a bad reputation."

  • "Best Chili Relleno ever. All the food was very good and very nicely priced. Only ding I would give was on the house margarita. "It's not sweet" the server promised. Turned out to be just a regular margarita-from-a-mix margarita. Either that or they did their best imitation of a mix. I switched to a XX Lager and all was well. I would definitely go back if I'm ever in Cleveland again"

  • "I have been to Zocalo multiple times. Nice food selection based on regional themes from Mexico. I travel all over Mexico and love the regional differences. Food not entirely authentic.....but a great Cleveland twist on regional tastes from Mexico that is different from many of the typical Mexican restaurants that are in the US. Ingredients seem very fresh and tasty. I like the vibe and the energy of the restaurant and the wait staff seems well trained and very personable. My only complaint.....every time I have been there the papertowel dispenser in the mens room is empty. There is no blow dryer. Minor point but somewhat irritating."

  • "The food was tired. The lettuce I received on my plate was brown & the guac was beginning to turn brown. The desert was average but boring."

  • "My hubby and I dined here on a special night out for my birthday. We had tickets to see Wicked and splurged on a hot tub room at a local motel so we were looking for somewhere yummy that wouldn't blow our budget away. The food was delicious and or coconut margaritas were fabulous. They were a little confused over our Open Table reservations though because we received an email asking why we didn't show up but that was our only issue."

  • "Our waitress was fantastic. We walked in with about 20 minutes for happy hour she gave us 3 drinks for the happy hour price. Excellent service she was on top of getting hot food to our table. She made sure out chip bowl was full and the drinks were flowing."
