A word from Zio
Zio Ristorante, offers dishes influenced by flavors of the Mediterranean as well as seasonality. Lunch includes paninis and grilled pizza specialties, from a traditional Caprese, to a Crudo topped with prosciutto, stracchino cheese and arugula. Chef Max always uses the freshest ingredients and builds his menu around the seasons. Homemade pappardelle with lamb ragu & a glass of red wine will nicely round out the meal. A selection of meat and fish entrees will remain as choices as well. The dinner menu is organized by antipasti, soups/fresh salads, pizzas, pastas, as well as a tantalizing selection of meat and fish dishes. Signature dishes to start include the Riso al Salto, a crunchy saffron risotto cake, bone marrow, and gremolata sauce, to the Polipo e Panelle, a grilled octopus, with chickpea cake and chicory.   • "My boyfriend and I dined on 4/12. It was not too noisy despite there being several diners in groups; we were still able to have an intimate conversation. Service was outstanding, with the waitstaff being he perfect balance of attentive and unobtrusive. We had the lamb carpaccio, short rib ravioli, lamb with sweet potato tortino, and the torts do cioccolato. Everything was delicious and perfectly done."

  • "Went just a month ago and it was great. Went back this week for a birthday dinner and was disappointed. Short rib ravioli filling had the taste and texture of pate. Filet mignon was cooked perfectly but very tough. All that chewing wasn't worth it. Don't know if I'll go back."

  • "Service was spotty. There was no one in the restaurant on a rainy Saturday night yet we were ignored for a long stretch of time during our experience. Food was under spiced or unbalanced in it flavorings. The wine in the lamb shank over powered the flavor of the meat though the meat was perfect at just falling off the bone. The red snapper is a lovely fish but was completely over powered by the clam broth, the fish could have been any type there was no flavor left."

Always consistent and never a bad meal. The chef is creative and the entire management and staff are client-focused and friendly. Can't wait for my next opportunity to go back."

  • "I chose Zio because they took reservations for big groups - this was for my daughter's (23rd) bday party. The owner or maitre d' led us in, and clearly honed in on the bday situation - he watched us closely and made sure party (candles w/cake, etc.) were right on cue. However, our actual waiter was kind of clueless...food was mixed - some of the guests seemed very happy (Mom was hosting, so may have been overly polite), but I would have to say my own dinner was just ok. Prices, however, for NYC were very reasonable - and again, for big group - comfortable and affordable. NOT the sort of place for a romantic or quiet evening!!!"

  • "This spot is outstanding. The owner is a wonderful Italian man that seems to care about everyone that walks through the door. The menu has many choices that fits the word Italian but doesn't necessarily mean spaghetti. Great ambiance, awesome wine list, we got the bar manager to recommend something that was Sicilian and wasn't on the menu and the best part is it was only $50! I highly recommend giving this spot a try."

The food was exquisite: Between the two of us we had Tuna tartar, Spinach salad, Risotto, Chilean sea bass and naturally Tiramisu. All fantastic!!.   • "Me and my husband recently had dinner here. The food was very good and had a diverse menu of Italian specialties. I highly recommend getting the homemade pasta. Very good! And so was my goat cheese and red beat salad. The ambiance was great, and service was wonderful. However, when we went, the restaurant was not very busy and we we're say DIRECTLY next to another couple. Nearly brushing elbows with them while over half of the seats I'm the restaurant sat vacant. It was a little awkward. Other than that, I would recommend this Resturant to a friend."

  • "I took my teenage daughter and her friend here recently. I found the service and ambiance to be excellent. I liked the menu choices. But I found the food to be surpisingly bland. The lamb ragu should have had much more intense flavor, although I did enjoy the homemade noodles it was served on.. The minestrone.vegetable soup, although an enormous portion, was not exciting or even that flavorful. My daughter's lamb chops were cooked perfectly but the polenta was both bland and had a funny flavor. We had the hazelnut gelato for dessert which was creamy and delicious, except my daughter's friend's dish had gooey freezer burn. All in all, the food was not consistent, but I would be willing to try it again."

  • "Was really nervous about taking my bosses out to a restaurant that I have never been to before. But I needed a place on short notice that could accomodate 9 people in the neighborhood and that was moderately priced. On paper, Zio looked great and they had availabilities so I gave them a shot. And they delivered. The pastas were so fresh and cooked to perfection. At the end of finishing his meal, my boss looked up from his plate and said "That was delicious!". All 9 of us cleaned our plates. I will definitely return when I get a craving for pasta."

  • "Went to Zio with a friend for restaurant week cause it was close by. Turned out to be a laughing experience. First they put us in an awkward table around 3 other diners. Then after the staff filled our glasses with water, we realized that he missed and got water around the table - which was unstable.... so we ended up moving to another table, which the seat was also wet. .. oh wells, we dealt with that.. then when the food came, they gave us the wrong entree so we had to wait again... this turned out to be a 2.5hr dinner for no good reason. Overall, lets just say that we wont really be going there anytime soon."

  • "I went to Zio with a group of friends on a Saturday night. The ambiance was great and the service even better. We were all vegetarian however that was no problem as there was a great selection of dishes for us to choose from. The pizzas as an appetizer or an entree are amazing. The Panna Cotta for dessert is a must have. The only negative I'd say is that the risotto was good though it could have been better. However that could just be because our expectations were too high after our appetizers. I would recommend Zio to my friends and will definitely be back myself."

  • "My wife and I visited Zio for dinner because of the diverse menu (and it was near our location). We would definitely return again, as the food was excellent and the service was attentive but not overbearing. The lamb chops were very tasty (more like steak than lamb) and the polenta was decent. My wife *loved* the special of a lobster pasta with inky black noodles. Bread was delicious. We both liked our wines (very generously sized pours). A semi-freddo dessert was excellent, not too sweet; my wife said the regular coffee was delicious, though I wish my double espresso had been doubled again. We arrived for our early reservations and had no problems getting a table in the comfy dining area. Definitely a place worth returning to."

THe pasta is excellent, and they have gluten-free. The service is very attentive. In short, an excellent choice for any meal. I have brought friends and business guests and they loved it too."

  • "Don't let outside fool you. open the doors ad yuou find yourself in quite the pretty setting. Both food and service were very good and was a comfortable dining expereience. Tables are well spaced and you don't have to shout to be heard by your dining companions. Wehad a very attentive waiter and it was a very enjoyable experience."

Meats and fish cooked to perfection, and sauces interesting and flavorful, but never overpowering. Homemade pastas and daily specials always delicious and surprising. The staff could not be more warm or efficient without rushing us. We are regular patrons, but all diners are treated like guests in someone's home. Truly refreshing in NYC. The minute we sit down at Zio we begin to relax. We will return often. PS The holiday decorations are lovely."

The staff and management could not be more accommodating. They allowed us to order from the regular menu and made our evening...great food, great service...."

  • "We had never been to Zio and not sure about it based on the reviews which were inconsistent. Part of the reason we went was because it had an open table reservation ability for 10 and its location and food type were consistent with what we wanted. It turned out to be a gem for 10 people (8 of whom were out off town). The service and setting were excellent, the food and wine choices were good and the service was excellent. Since we were on the hook for the choice, we were proud of the selection and complemented accordingly. They have very good pizza choices to begin for groups and the pizzas were tasty and well cooked. Thin crust with great choices like prosciutto and salmon toppings. Three enjoyed a well executed lobster rissotto"
