  • "Awesome small plates..nothing short of shocking in the middle of no where type of place"

  • "Lovely restaurant in downtown Cedar Rapids. Food was excellent and wine and craft selections were plentiful. Sophisticated dining experience but not stuffy."

  • "The food, as always was great! Service was a little slow, and one of our party (of 3) was worried, as we were going to the Symphony. As it turned out, we arrived at the Paramount with 10 minutes to spare. Our waitress could've checked in with us a bit more often, but she was very nice and professional. We love the ambiance of Zin's, and drinks and dinner were great!"

  • "Zins is one of a handful of great unique restaurants in Cedar Rapids that can accommodate a couple or group, casual or formal attire, and has foodie fare for safe or adventurous tastes. We have eaten both tapas as well as the entrees, and have found everything to be surprising and delicious. The cocktails are very good and the deserts will knock your socks off. Highly recommend!"

  • "The food was outstanding, the wait staff was accommodating and kind, and the place itself was beautiful! The presentation of the dishes knocked the whole experience right out of the park! I would suggest the mushroom bisque, the duck entree, and the chocolate bread pudding! Wow!"

  • "Made reservations online and for very early evening. They had a "chef's table" in an alcove where at one end there was a window to the kitchen. We could have drawn a curtain over it, but had fun watching periodically. So many interesting dishes to choose from ! Some ordered 2, some 3. plus desserts. We all loved what we got. Clearly, the food was prepared with attention to flavor and presentation. Attentive, informative, but not overbearing service. We left happy, satisfied, stimulated, and not feeling over fed. Reserving online was a great option. Did not have to time a phone call with restaurant hours in mind."

  • "Great little restaurant for a tertiary city. Pleasantly surprised."

  • "Fast service, diverse menu, extensive list of quality wines, and one of the best meals I've ever eaten."

  • "Zins is the kind of restaurant that you pray to have in your city. Excellent food, service and ambience. The focaccia is a great opener and it just gets better from there!"

  • "We took our kids out for dinner, and had a very nice time. Did not feel hurried, waitress was able to answer our questions about the wine list, and the food was delicious!"

  • "We live in Iowa City but often make the half hour drive to Zin's in Cedar Rapids for their great small plates. You can order a few, then more, depending on your appetite. It gives you lots of great tastes. We especially liked the scallops (tender and fresh), mushroom bisque (velvety). and lollipop lamb chops (to die for). Great infused cocktails. Extensive wine list including many by the glass in 2 sizes and prices. The service is generally very good. On this night the place was swamped due to a performance of the Alvin Ailey dance company nearby. Service was uneven. Perhaps management should watch the Paramount schedule and plan accordingly for hot shows."

  • "Liked: warm, sleek decor of restaurant; wine list (and ability to order wine by glass not just bottle); crabcakes were delicious; dessert menu (chocolate bread pudding); warm bread served at beginning of meal (good thing since we waited almost 45 min for our first course) Not so good: delivery of courses (most small plate restaurants will bring a couple dishes out at a time, but after being told by the server that the menu was considered "appetizers" on the left and "entrees on the right," we assumed dishes would arrive in that order -- not so); pork wontons were terrible (pork inside was seriously the size of a small pea); steak was medium-rare instead of medium (would have ordered it m-r but wife is pregnant and no rare meat)"

  • "One of the best spots in Cedar Rapids. An outstanding menu and they're known for their extensive wine list. It's a must stop if you're looking for a romantic date night or just a nice night out with friends. Always had excellent service in the past, but this time our waitress was a bit absent. She was still pleasant and it didn't really spoil our experience. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Always enjoy Zins for its great atmosphere, ability to have conversation with dining companions without struggling to hear and for the chance to try multiple dishes off their tapas menu. We really enjoy their rotating menu, so each visit is a chance to try new items."

  • "I love Zins' Small plate selection, presentation, and ambiance. Three or more courses are served in a leisurely style. We schedule before 6 PM and need to inform our server so we are at our destination earlier than the 8 PM norm.."

  • "Great Sunday brunch place and the bloody Mary was outstanding!"
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "This is such a pretty restaurant with decent food and drink at very reasonable prices, but our experience was marred by slow and poor service. Maybe it was just the night or our table (because other diners seemed pleased) but the overall experience did not measure up to the initial pleasant ambience."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Great food, but it seemed to take entirely too long to get food between courses and to get drinks, drink refills, and any water refills. I felt the whole idea behind tapas was to pick and choose, not to pick and wait for 20-30 minutes for each course. The time lag was the main downside to the experience. Simple things like refilling drinks and water timely would have gone a long ways also. Great mushroom bisque."

  • "The food was excellent and the menu was full of really good choices. Prices are very good for the quality of the food. Service started a little slow, but once we noted that we had theater tickets they were very responsive. We actually returned after the concert for desserts and drinks and this too was a very enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This is the second time we have dined at Zin's and I have to say the first time we were not impressed. I think we just ordered the wrong small plates, and weren't satisfied with the cost vs. food. This time we ordered the lamp chops (amazing), steak (great), and duck (great). They were all impressive with a fair amount of food for small plate dining. The service was great and we had some lovely wine too. Overall, based on our second experience we will definitely go back."

  • "We absolutely love Zin's. Our recent trip with two other couples was up to par with expectations. Our server was fun and engaging and the food was spectacular. The Parpadelle dish was my favorite, and of course, the Frittes never disappoint."

  • "We were given a table next to the door, isolated from the rest of the restaurant. It was cold and our server forgot about us more than once. It was uncomfortable having people walk into the restaurant and stand inches from our table. My drink didn't get to me until the last course of the meal. Despite the poor seating and service, the food was amazing. Their small plate dining gives you a chance to taste many excellent dishes. They attempted to correct their disappointing service by complementary drink and appetizer. I feel like if I wasn't sitting at the table in the entryway that the service would have been excellent. They seemed to have many returning customers. I would love to go back as long as I was sat at a better table."

  • "Hadn't been to Zins in years, but when I received a gift card to Zins my husband and I went to Zins for dinner last weekend. We had really good food, though portions were skimpier than expected. Service was very good and ambiance was fine. Valet service was an added plus. All in all we had a good time and plan to return sometime soon."

  • "Great experience for a casual brunch in Cedar Rapids. Music from local bluesman BF Burt. Three menu items for a set price. Tapas size portions. Our table sampled bacon pancakes, pomme frites, prosciutto arugula salad, baked mac and cheese, chicken fried steak, shrimp and cheddar grits, and a breakfast BLT. Locally sourced and excellent."

  • "My wife and I had a great meal at Zin's before seeing a show in the NewBo district. Service, drinks and food were all great. We shared scallops and calamari appetizers, spinach salad, mushroom soup, steak and lamb chops. We were happy with every single item. Anyone dining at Zins should know its a small plate menu, so you want to order several courses. With what we ordered we had plenty to eat, skipped desert and went away happy."

  • "We have been here numerous times and that last few have been disappointing - we will not go back for awhile. After waiting an unusual amount of time between courses the steak deburgo was very undercooked, we both ordered it, and only a few bites were warm. We both order the usual Chocolate Bread pudding and it was cold in spots. Did not look very appetizing either. It was not busy for a Saturday night as there were open tables throughout our supper so I don't think the staff was in the weeds. Not sure what has happened but the food quality has slipped recently."

  • "Very wonderful food and place! Went here for Valentines day and enjoyed the no wait and wonderful atmosphere. The server was very great as well. Only thing I would say was the salmon was very small sized. But everything else was wonderful! definitely will probably go here again."

  • "While the ambiance was beautiful, I expected better food for the cost. First, I got the butternut squash risotto. The flavor was good (heavy on the pepper), but the butternut squash pieces in it were hard and crunchy, and bland. I expected soft, cooked squash (and I don't think I'm being picky on this -- who wants crunchy squash in a warm comfort dish like risotto?) Second, I got a spinach salad with walnuts. This would have also been good, but it was loaded with big chunks of red onion. I'm definitely an onion fan, but when it's raw with a delicate salad, especially in big chunks, it overtakes the flavor pretty quickly. I have had far better food at far more affordable restaurants in Cedar Rapids."

  • "We were in from out of town to see a show and Zin's was recommended to us. We had a great meal, alot of the dishes were standouts but the duck breast was one of the best we had ever had. The restaurant was also very accomodating to a food allergy of someone in our group and the server made great suggestions for wine pairings. We will be back in Cedar Rapids next January and will definitely will return."

  • "The restaurant was fantastic. Beautiful decor, splendid for romance. The server could have been a bit more attentive, but not too bad considering a date like that was good for being alone. We chose a four course meal, and I feel that the courses were brought out a little too quickly until the main course, which we waiting for a bit for. Also, the price. VERY expensive. Okay for the occasional thing, but considering the main course was essentially pork roast with garlic mashed potatoes and gravy, the price was a bit extreme (not including the wine, the meal was over $100) I'd recommend for special occasions, or if you've got plenty of money and no care for how much goes where."

  • "Without question, one of the best meals I've had in my life. Server Marc has found his calling in the service field- his knowledge is impeccable, his attentiveness divine. I hope that other restaurant geeks like myself have the chance to eat Zins food, and experience Marc's and the rest of the staff's ability to provide a perfect dining experience. On the same token, I hope Marc is able to find a restaurant where he can be provided the same level of flawless care. Everyone deserves a chance to dine and enjoy thselves in a way Zins team is able to provide. Bravo."

  • "The menu always has exoctic additions to conventional dishes And drinks. They have always impressed me. For this high caliber of a dining experience I find the cost surprisingly affordable ($15-$30 ea)."

  • "My wife and I are both vegetarian and we enjoy coming to Zins for occasional meals. They really don't vary the non-meat (no beef, lamb, pork, chicken or fish) menu much so we aren't real regulars. The three dishes that we ordered were very well prepared, very tasty and satisfied our appetites completely. Desert was also great. You might consider adding another person to the valet parking system (this was Saturday night) as we had a pretty long wait for the one person on duty to return from another client. This isn't normally a big deal, but we were cutting it kind of close for our Orchestra Iowa concert time. Thanks for the enjoyable dinner."

  • "Service was outstanding, the staff was superb in getting anything you needed in a timely fashion. The food portions where perfect the amount you should eat and the price was great too. I felt comfortable dressed up and would also feel comfortable dressed in nice jeans and a shirt."

  • "First time dining at this style of restaurant (small plate format), really enjoyed it. Good food and nice atmosphere. I plan on returning. Noise level was good too, quiet enough to have conversations easily but not so quiet that I felt like I had to whisper."
