Inventive, unique dishes fit for foodies. Was a bit too frou-frou for my table of college students. Buzzy scene. Service was spotty; we were asked if we wanted our coats before the bill even arrived, as if they wanted to kick us out.

This restaurant is one of my wife's favorites in New Haven, CT. She enjoys a well prepared vegetarian dish with variety and a lot of flavor. Zinc consistently meets her expectations. I am not a vegetarian but I enjoy their vegetarian selections as well as meat and fish. I had the bay sea scallops and wish they were fresher. A really fresh scallop has a faint sweet taste and these did not--disappointing at $30 and 4 scallops. I wish the portions were larger and find it a little pricy $145-- Saturday dinner for two, one glass of wine and one dessert--no coffee or tea, I am impressed with the complexity of the spicing and excellent service. It was my wife's birthday and they did bring her a candle with some complimentary dessert. Our waiter Andrew H. went above and beyond to help my wife with the name of her wine and where it could be purchased locally. Another man went out of his way to explain the contents our large cheese platter. The cheese platter was excellent and I would highly recommend it. We have been dining at Zinc off and on since it opened in 1999. It was noisy and packed with people. This tells me that others enjoy this New Haven fixture too!

I have been here 4 times now, and it is still one of my favorite New Haven restaurants! This time I came with my family during restaurant week. We began with the duck nachos which are unique and delicious! We also shared the buratta cheese which was also great. As my entree I ordered the pacific cod with mussels and rice, and I loved it! My parents ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and were both very satisfied with their meals. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse cake and the pumpkin custard, which were both divine.

My husband took me out to Zync for my Birthday dinner and it was all I had hoped for. A romantic place, with really solid good food, a nice wine list and great service. I had the curried carrot soup and the salmon risotto, plus the chocolate cake, which is really delicious. All in all a great restaurant, with a nice ambience, attention to details, and waiters that really take care of you. It was extra special to blow the candles at Zync!

We took advantage of Restaurant week and although zinc was busy we were seated immediately and received constant attention from the wait staff. However, we did feel a little rushed as the restaurant was flipping tables. The crowd added a level of energy that you would normally associate with a New York scene rather than New Haven. Food was excellent even though the menu was limited due to the fix price nature of the event. Appetizers were good, meal very good and deserts excellent. We will definitely be going back again.

Zinc is one of my favorite restaurants in New Haven. The food is always amazing. The bread and dip they serve change frequently and are always delicious. The food is always seasoned perfectly and is well portioned. I also really appreciate the variety in their menu and the various cultures that are represented. Often times, food comes in a deconstructed manner, which makes it exciting and fun to eat. I had the vegetable korma, and I couldn't believe how elegant it was. The spices were a delightful medley of flavors and the sauces and chutney left me wanting more.

Everyone was friendly but I would like leave few negative comments for improvement. 1.I understand the restaurant gets busy during the lunch time; we were there between 12:30-1:50, but the staffs kicked my chair four times while I was having lunch. They need to work on the table placement or train their staff well so the customers do not get interrupted during their stay. 2.The bread was burnt when I flipped them over and the rice was really really greasy. And the salad was soggy. Salmon tasted really good tho. 3.There was a bit of waiting time between the dishes. But do understand since it's restaurant week and all. Will try the restaurant again when it's not so busy. Hopefully the service and the food taste better on my next visit.

Zinc has been a fixture of the New Haven dining scene for well over a decade. It has been innovator and terrific dining spot since it opened. Denise Appel's eclectic menu draws on a wide array cuisines. Plate descriptions can sometimes seem strained, but the results are nearly always terrific. For apps the duck nachos and cheese plates are as good as advertised; and pacific black cod, and scallops with turnip puree were fabulous.

Bad service. Food just ok We were right on time. 9pm res. Waiter had one other table. At approx 9:10, the waiter approaches the table to take order. No offer of drinks or questions about the menu. We order drinks and are them told that kitchen is going to close soon. Food was just ok. Nice looking place tho. Bartender could not make a decent martini.

Loved everything about Zinc. Haven't been there in years ( not sure why) but it will definitely become a regular go to place again. We had the shrimp appetizer and a wonderful selection of cheeses. For entrees both the tuna and gnocchi were fabulous. Our taste buds were dazzled with each fork full of everything we ordered. Dessert was sublime. We have already made another date to return. The service was excellent with several staff people making sure we we happy and well looked after.

The beet salad was great. The cod was really special. The fish was fresh and the flavors were complex and delicious. However ,the hanger steak was really tuff and should have been marinated. We also had the maple rice pudding with gelato, what a sugery mess! Our waitress was midly attentive and never asked us if we enjoyed your main course and clearly didn't notice that the dessert want eaten

ZINC has become a New haven go to place BUT, pricing is unrealistic for what you get. I'm very willing to pay well for an outstanding meal but ZINC is just over the top in terms of what they are actually serving. They either need to upgrade the servings or bring the price down.

Zinc was a lovely dining experience. Our service was impeccable. The menu, though somewhat limited, offered dining gems. We ate with six people each of whom ordered something different and each of us loved our meal. Aside from our server, other people from the restaurant stopped by to see if we were happy and all of our needs were being met. We were celebrating my mother's 75th birthday and they made her feel very special. I would strongly recommend Zinc for special occasions or anything else.

After summer break, I felt some of the dishes tasted slightly different. The source of famous duck nachos tasted differently, the dip for complementary crunch became less spicy, etc. But, generally, the food quality still stands out. I recommend "slow roasted pork ribs", "cod" for main. Also the forever wonderful "duck nachos" and "tuna". Chocolate mousse was delicious. They used to have very melting and creamy "half goat and half cow cheese", unfortunately, it was no long creamy when I ordered.

I took my mother here when she was visiting me and we both thought the restaurant was fantastic. I ordered the duck nachos for an appetizer, which were amazing. We both enjoyed our entrees. I got the scallops and my mother ordered the lobster risotto special. Very fresh and high quality seafood. I definitely think it's the perfect place to take visiting relatives. I've heard it's one of the nicer restaurants in New Haven, and some diners were a bit dressed up. But we're from California and didn't find the place too formal or stuffy.
