Diner Reviews
  • "Appetizer was very nice but for all three of us our main course was over cooked and under seasoned. Generally underwhelming and somehow a bit disappointing. The food wasn't bad -- it just didn't meet expectations."

  • "Zinc continues to be a great "go to spot" - you can count on a great ambience - high ceiling/bright space/modern décor; with seating spaced out enough to not feel crowded. The food remains excellent, with a little twist to some favorites, like Mac and Cheese (but not the KD kind!) It is a place that is both impressive and very welcoming with wait staff that are friendly, knowledgeable and not intrusive. I highly recommend Zinc, for a business lunch spot."

  • "This was a lovely place to dine pre-theatre. The food was great, as was the wine & service."

  • "We enjoyed the quality and presentation of the food, it was super. Our Corporate directors were in town and they appreciate fine dining. Certainly the Zinc Restaurant met the challenge of our team and the experience was a Western New York dining experience."

  • "Food was incredible. Every bite was wonderful. Best Mojitos I have ever had."

  • "I was really hoping to have something good to say about Zinc. It's located on prime real estate at the beautiful Alberta Art Gallery. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing, especially considering the price get for dining at Zinc. The scallops were practically raw, the veal tortellini was undercooked to the point where the pasta was hard and floury. The veal stuffing inside was get bland and barely seasoned, the tenderloin was bland and overcooked (ordered medium rare but came out well), but the duck was ok (but not worth the $38 they charged). I also ordered an Old Fashion which is a pretty standard drink, but for some reason they used agave syrup which made the drink unbearably sweet. Bill-$180 for 2!"

  • "Food presentation was superb and wine list well above average. We particularly appreciated amuse bouche, dipping oils and desserts. Mains were favorful and expertly plated. Good value overall with discount for AGA membership."

  • "Zinc is one of the best downtown gems that caters to delectable cuisine and specific dietary needs. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the artistic display of food but the mouth-watering food speaks for itself. It not only looks divine, it tastes heavenly and that's not just the desserts but every dish. It can be a challenge to eat gluten free, dairy free with other requirements and the chefs consistently accommodate to produce an amazing dining experience every time. I will consistently go back to Zinc for the amazing culinary experience. Thank you for your artistic and delectable creations!"

  • "Great spot for a light brunch, no crazy huge serving sizes, always elegantly and imaginatively presented. Good to try this place out during Downtown Dining Week."

  • "We've been here a few times and the food and service has always been amazing. Friday night we took some friends out, the service was mediocre. The appetizers which are usually amazing were not food at all, we couldn't even eat them. My husband was starving, so he ordered the beef like he had in the past and the smaller portion if beef was brought to him. He asked if that was the full order like he had requested and it was. He was starting when he left there as he barely got any food. For 38, you would certainly expect more out of the dish. We probably won't be back."

  • "We have a brunch on Sunday. We did not try the pastries, and we just order four different kinds of main courses. The taste and representation of the food were great. We really enjoy that."

  • "We were a group of about ten diners for Sunday brunch. There were only about six other people in the restaurant, yet it took over an hour for food to arrive. And that was after waiting a while for the order to be taken. When it did , it was hardly worth the wait. High on quantity, low on quality. I have to say the wait staff were great; filling coffee, dealing with people, etc. If they weren't so good, I feel some of our crowd were ready to up and leave. Being in an art museum, they really need to realize that most people are there to visit the museumt. Taking nearly two hours by he time paying, etc. was done cuts into art viewing time significantly. I would definitely warn friends to book elsewhere before going to the museum."

  • "Zinc is a great place for lunch. Service was a little slow this time, but it was Teacher's Convention so very busy. I would highly recommend the Pear and Parsnip Soup! So good!"

  • "had lunch and supper at Zinc. Ambience was great: love the wood décor. Service was very good as well. Food was a major disappointment. Small portions and not tasty. The soup had no salt in it: Campbell canned Minstrone soup would taste much better. Italian oil and dip for the bread: very bland. Bread is not ?fresh. I think the Head chef needs to design his food presentation and also food quality. It is an art gallery and there was no art at all in food presentation."

  • "Had totally forgotten about this restaurant until we were looking for a nice dinner out for a special occasion. It was a quiet night being on a Thursday, but that was a bonus for us who needed a nice night out. The dining room is small, but intimate and the space was right the right mix of upscale and unpretentious."

  • "This restaurant definitely is a must-visit for foodies. Although parking may be a bit hard to find, it's definitely worth the walk. The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and wines. My girlfriend and I felt welcomed. We had a fantastic and romantic date thanks to welcoming staff, and well-decorated restaurant."

  • "WE dined on Sunday of the family day weekend. My husband ordered "surf and turf" which was to include a tenderloin filet. He was serve a thin strip sirloin and not informed. The waiter or the manager did not not come back to ask how our food was. When he complained to the server, the server said they had run out of tenderloins. The price of the meal was taken off the check but the point of not being told when ordering was not acceptable. The manager finally came and spoke with us after my husband let the server know that the manager was the one at fault. I had the crab cake which was excellent as always"

  • "I booked a few hours before for a last minute dinner meeting for our group of 4. The restaurant was quiet although a large group and several smaller tables kept us from being the only ones. We were well attended and the server very knowledgeable and friendly. She paced the meal well and stopped by to refill water/check in without being obtrusive. The food was great - the smaller portions option makes for a more adventurous meal especially when there is so much to choose from! The vegan dish was good but the tofu a little underwhelming (and I'm generally a tofu fan!) Overall, our booth was the perfect spot for the evening and I could see returning for a meal prior to the gallery or a Winspear/Citadel show. It is a must try in Edm!"

  • "Brunch at Zinc was a real treat. We had a very relaxing early afternoon meal. The food was excellent with a great variety of tastes that complemented each other. It was a great place to have a peaceful, relaxing visit between two friends."

  • "The food was very good but the wine list was disappointing -- very few Canadian wines. We found the restaurant quite noisy. We left our coats in the car in the parkade under City Hall, as we often when going to events linked by the underground pedway system. We could get in with no problem but when we left, the doors to the lrt at the art gallery were initially locked and once we got in, someone had to be called to open the metal gate at the bottom of the stairs so we could get back into the pedway system."

  • "Recently dined at this lovely restaurant before attending the symphony. The staff inquired as to whether we had tickets to a show so we could dine and keep on schedule. We were amazed at the ambience and view this lively restaurant affords. To make the evening more enjoyable the food was excellent. The beef tenderloin with the chocolate sauce was fabulous. I definitely recommend this restaurant and look forward to dining there again"

  • "Lunch at Zinc on a frosty February day is a treat. With a welcoming sun streaming through the glass roof, attentive service and exciting, innovative choices on the menu my experience at Zinc was memorable. Nice touches like warm herbed bread with dipping sauces, excellent wine choices and lovely plating all add to what makes Zinc unique. For a casual lunch, a romantic dinner, or a special occasion with family Zinc fills the bill."

  • "We had to wait an hour for our meal at lunch, unacceptable. The service was very weak."

  • "The food and service was great however the main thing that really was disappointing was that when I made the reservation I had included a comment saying “Please help make our anniversary special.” Not once was it mentioned that it was our anniversary, even a congrats would have been appreciated. I had heard such amazing things about Zinc and was excited to try it out. Considering that the service was great but they failed to mention our anniversary makes me consider not recommending it or going back. I am not sure if the message was not relayed to the server or what had happened but coming from the service industry myself, it was very disappointing and I don't think I should have to remind them again about a special occasion."

  • "The setting of Zinc in the museum is great and staff is pleasant. Usually not too busy on weeknight evenings, that makes for a relaxing atmosphere. Food was overall very good, but not quite outstanding due to little details. For example the waffle that the confit de canard (duck confit) rested on was simply bland and had a texture as if just warmed up. The rest of the dish was great."

  • "Made a reservation for a Friday night, but the place was empty. We were obviously seated immediately and customer service was very prompt. Food we ordered came very quickly! Portions were small, but I think that there ws enough to fill you up, and there were interesting food combinations. Spring Roll appetizer was very good, the duck (I believe it was the duck?) was very sweet (it came with maple syrup) and wasn't quite what I was looking for, but still very good. Overall a good (pricey) dining experience. I'd definitely go back :)"
