A word from ZINC- Philadelphia
This second restaurant of Olivier Desaintmartin, ZINC is no less than a replica of a “le Marais” style bar restaurant, artists most preferred section of Paris. Le Marais is also the oldest part of the French capital.

Desaintmartin bought a 1919 zinc bar from a Parisian bar, refinished it, and shipped it to this quaint 40 seats bar/restaurant.

Acclaimed for its food, romance and its specialty drinks, Zinc becomes a hang out for locals, a meeting place. You can share a charcuterie or a fromage plate with a glass of Chinon, or sit at the bar sipping a French aperitif waiting for your party, or enjoy some oysters with a Muscadet.

The bistro menu is the same for brunch and dinner so at any time of the day you may choose to order eggs Benedict or steak frites or even just an apple tart with a “coupe “ of Blanquette de Limoux (sparkling wine).

We love good food and Zinc did not disappoint. Loved the food. Prior good reviews were right on. It's a charming little place with brick walls that creates a real French bistro atmosphere. We were there at 6:00 since we had theater reservations so noise level was low, but it did pick up by the time we left. Wouldn't let that stop you from enjoying the restaurant, though. Waiter was friendly and engaging, and attentive. Will definitely go back.

AS soon as we came in the door, we were ignored. Service was slow. The male waiter had so much attitude{ snobish}. It took a long time to get a drink. My steak frites dinner the sauce was just awfull. Overall experience was very poor. The place came recommended by friends. We will not recommend it. Dirty dishes at a empty table for half an hour

This restaurant is a gem. First course was great. My wife had an exquisite sweet green pea soup, one of our party had potato soup, which again was wonderful, and the beet salad and escargot was wonderful. Entrees like steelhead trout and sea bass were again outstanding. And the deserts were out of this world. The drinks were plentiful and carefully prepared. The restaurant is small, quiet and intimate. Our waitress was wonderfully pleasant and attentive. This was a celebratory evening for our family, and this turned out to be a perfect venue for our dinner. 5 stars to a wonderful restaurant.

Our meal was absolutely wonderful and memorable. Steak tartare is always a risk, but taking that chance, I was rewarded with a creamy, mellow tartare matched with a rich and tangy crab salad, the two of which, perfectly played off each other. The filo appetizer was a marvelous combination of tastes, colors, and textures. Our special treat was the pressed lobster. Ordered ahead of time, the lobster was pressed and prepared table-side. This is essentially a rather simple dish, depending primarily on the quality of the lobster. No matter, it was exquisite. The wine list is small, but covers the gamut of varieties, although you can apparently bring your own bottle if you wish. We certainly plan to return to explore more of Zinc's menu.

We started with a chilled sweet pea soup and a goat cheese and beat salad-- both were fantastic. They flavors were bright and on point. Then we ordered two entrees of the scallops, once again, a delicious, artfully prepared meal. Dessert was equally delicious.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Zinc this past Thursday. We enjoyed the duck press experience. What a treat. The folks there made us feel very much at home and the food was lovely. The beef tartare and crab appetizer was a new and wonderful experience. What an interesting take on surf and turf. This was our first visit to Zinc but there will be many to come.

My wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and wanted to dine close to the Forrest Theater, and try some place new to us. Zinc looked like a good choice from what we saw on the internet. We sat by the window and felt it appropriate for a special night. David was our server, he was warm, attentive and very knowledgeable. We enjoyed every tasty bite of each of our appetizers and entrees. I doubt there's a bad choice on the menu. Highly recommend for intimate dining. I've already bragged on Facebook, and will go back with more of our family.

Beautiful little place, lovely and cosy which added to the French cafe style atmosphere. Food was delish - really superb. Service a tad slow and disorganised when we arrived around 7.30 pm. Took us about 30 mins to get menus and water - let alone get a drink. Once a few tables left, things really improved and service became as you would expect and very attentive.

This was the 4th or 5th time I have been there. The food, while OK, was not of the quality that I experienced before. For example, the greens in the salad were not fresh and were. Gritty. The sauce on the scallops was congealed purple something and the mushrooms were overcooked. Service was good.

Perfect little French Restaurant in the heart of Philadelphia. Glad we had reservations, because the place was packed. Small dining area, with a single restroom. But made you feel like you were in a French Bistro, thousands of miles way. Fairly tradtional French fair, we ordered the special of the day- Rack of Lamb, with the gratin potatos, and Vegetable of the day- asparagus. All Excellent. Wife ordered med-rare, mine medium. both cooked properly. For appetizer we ordered the mushroom puff pastry- it was the highlight of the night, fantastic flavor. Overall great experience, and would easily return!

I was a little disappointed by our dinner here, as I was expecting a more authentic French bistro dining experience. The food, while tasty, was unremarkable. My octopus salad was very good (a special that night), but my sea scallops were ordinary, and my partner's Lancaster chicken (the restaurant's version of "coq au vin" was overcooked. I think there is promise here, but it's currently unrealized.

I want to like Zinc, in that I love bistro food, a good selection of wines by the glass, and the option for small portions of the entree. However, I'm always disappointed. The quality of the food isn't up to the level of the prices, and there are just so many better places to go for that price.

This is a wonderful find we made when we started to go to Philadelphia for a Walnut St. Theater subscription. This was our first Friday dinner (usually mid-week) at about 6:00 PM. It is a tiny bistro - probably 15 -18 seats - but delicious food. My wife had the $30 prix fix dinner featuring skate - beautifully prepared. I had rack of lamb. And you can walk to either the Walnut or Kimmel Center. Look forward to trying their pressed duck special for 2 served only Tuesday - Thursday.

It was like stepping into a bistro in Paris. The surroundings, food selections, wine, atmosphere and cooking were no different than we experience there. The space is 20 tables, and spacing slightly less tight than in Paris. Service is friendly (and in English) and this meant a relaxed evening, it was not crowded or loud (weekday evening). This made for the ideal romantic birthday dinner for my wife and me. We recommend the mushroom in puff pastry with sherry sauce appetizer and for entrees, the chicken with gratin, and the coquilles. Not so much the pig's feet appetizer. We did love the chocolate mousse cake dessert & enjoyed the Chablis premier cru as well. Not inexpensive, especially the wines, but we found it worth the price.

I wound up eating at Zinc twice in a week and I enjoyed each visit. Their Cosmopolitan cocktail is one of the best in the city. I had the calves liver on one occasion and the duck special on another. Each was done to perfection. My companion had the St. Jacques and she raved about it. The chocolate desert was fantastic.
