A word from ZINC- Philadelphia
This second restaurant of Olivier Desaintmartin, ZINC is no less than a replica of a “le Marais” style bar restaurant, artists most preferred section of Paris. Le Marais is also the oldest part of the French capital.

Desaintmartin bought a 1919 zinc bar from a Parisian bar, refinished it, and shipped it to this quaint 40 seats bar/restaurant.

Acclaimed for its food, romance and its specialty drinks, Zinc becomes a hang out for locals, a meeting place. You can share a charcuterie or a fromage plate with a glass of Chinon, or sit at the bar sipping a French aperitif waiting for your party, or enjoy some oysters with a Muscadet.

The bistro menu is the same for brunch and dinner so at any time of the day you may choose to order eggs Benedict or steak frites or even just an apple tart with a “coupe “ of Blanquette de Limoux (sparkling wine).

  • Cozy Restaurant, Delicious French-inspired Food

The atmosphere captures the coziness and elegance of a French upscale bistrot. The food was finely prepared, nicely presented and delicious! It's more French-inspired than classically French, and there were some options for vegetarians. I'll definitely return to Zinc, we had a lovely time there!

My husband and I dined here and loved it! The service was great, food extremely tasty and the restaurant is small, but very comfortable. Some of the menu items are offered in full size and a smaller portion size which is brilliant. The potato leek soup was very tasty and fresh. The pork shank was "fall off the bone" tender as a shank should be. It was wonderful. My husband had the chicken dish which he also thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this restaurant. Make a reservation because it is a small place.

Very charming restaurant, although crowded (felt sorry for the servers) & noisy (felt sorry for the young couple next to us trying to have a romantic dinner away from their kids). Recommend visiting on a weekend night instead of weekend & requesting a table in the window. One of us ordered the steak fritte & it was good, the other had the liver....probably the best liver ever, very thick and tender. Took a long time to get our order in, but once we did the food came quickly.

The restaurant was absolutely amazing. everything was cooked to perfection and there was no dish i didn't like. even the waiter's alcohol recommendations were good. the waiter was very nice and professional, but i cannot say we got a good service as they were only 2-3 waiters on a full restaurant and that caused the service to be extremely slow and the waiter not to be attentive to our needs. it's a shame because it wasn't because of him: he was good. it was just that they didn't have enough waiters. and each waiter functions as a bar tender so everything was really slow during the service. you need to have more waiters there and then service will be perfect. and again, the food- no words. worth every penny.

Dined here with our son for Drexel's parents weekend. Food was amazing - beginning to end. On par with many Parisian restaurants we have been to. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I like the option to order 1/2 portions of many of the entrees. Will definitely be back when visiting Philadelphia again.

A lovely little gem of a restaurant. Small but cosy and not noisy. We had pasta, monkfiish, and the cassoulet. The salad was clean and crisp. We loved the merlot. Service was excellent. I had to catch a train and the waiter made a point of having my dinner brought out quickly.

Zinc is a cozy, intimate restaurant. I started with the Salade de Chevre Chaud, which was delicious, followed by an equally delicious Chilean salmon with leeks and beurre blanc. The desserts were not so tempting, but I just poured myself a glass of a very nice Cote du Rhone and I was happy. We are in Philly frequently, and Zinc is a restaurant I would be happy to revisit.

I can say I will go back to Zinc. My date and I had the special and it was very good. I think we were one of the last people to receive it. It was a Loin roaster all day and you can tell if fell off the bone. It has rich favors and melted in your mouth. It went perfectly with the bottle. For desert we had raspberry tort that was not overly sweet just enough to finish it off.

Quiet, small, intimate, with attentive and thoughtful servers who know the menu and the wine list well, Zinc is a restaurant where you can hear your companions, enjoy your conversation, and savor an excellent meal--pleasantly and peacefully. We like it better than other local French-cuisine bistros that are bigger, louder, and stressful. Zinc is a place you want to linger.

On a recent visit to Philly I dined at Zinc because it was close to my hotel. It was restaurant week and the menu was creative. Our dinner choices were excellent as well as the wine and aperitif list. The restaurant is small. It was noisy but we could still talk easily at out table. If I ever get back to Philly, I will eat at Zinc!

We were surprised and delighted to find that we happened upon Restaurant week specials. The first course scallops were melt-in-the mouth delicious. The chopped liver second course was flavored with notes of orange, tasty. The third course steak frites was very good although we still remember Michael Notredame's extraordinary frites that no one has duplicated. Dessert was a chocolate marquise. What could be bad?

Went to Zinc for restaurant week, so I didn't expect the level of service I would normally do. I got there 15 minutes before my reservation, and had to wait outside, but was able to be seated at least 5 minutes after my reservation. What is the point of having a reservation?! All the food prepared was underseasoned. Hasn't the chef heard of salt?? I can understand my husband's steak being overcooked, but the sauces for the salmon and steaks had no flavor. If the restaurant is busy why would you forget to season the dishes. The desert was WAY to sweet, although the chicken liver pate and the butter served was nice.

We had eaten here 5 or 6 years ago and thought it was pretty good. This past week I needed to find a restaurant that could take 6 people on a Friday night during restaurant week - Zinc was the only place on my list of 5 or 6 restaurants that could accommodate us. Unfortunately, I learned why. Service was mediocre. We were not offered a drink by the wait staff until Wed been there nearly half an hour. The food itself was average french bistro. My husband ordered steak fries, which was supposed to come with truffled fries the portion was tiny and truffle oil flavor was non existent. Even though the atmosphere was charming, the combination of poor service and average food means I will not rwtuen.

We had driven into Philadelphia earlier in the day and were looking forward to a place for dinner where we could take our time. Zinc was perfect. Even though many people were there for a theatre event nearby we were not rushed, in fact we were encouraged to take our time. Excellent food, the scallops were particularly enjoyable. The cheese plate was one of the best I have ever had.

We have been dining at Zinc since it opened many years ago and find it to be consistently wonderful. The little neighborhood gem feels like you are in a sweet spot in Paris that the regulars venture to after work. Everything is reminiscent of the lovely tiny bistros in France, complete with an authentic duck press! We relied on their standards of delicious escargots, a phenomenal cold summer pea soup, the simple but delicious chicken special and a perfectly cooked sea bass. Dora our waiter who has been there since day one, is an elegant, professional and kind server. We love coming here and look forward to the fall and their new additions to the menu. Bravo to Zinc for another perfect evening!

The wine list was nice, but of course over priced. It was quiet only a few other groups on Wed. evening early before a show. There food was mediocre. The escargot were very poorly prepared with bacon and almonds. The bacon completely overwhelmed the snails. The dessert was pineapple tart, it was dough with a little pineapple spread on top. We did not eat it. The ambiance is very authentic feeling and quite beautiful. The service was ok. The scallops were prepared very well.

We love good food and Zinc did not disappoint. Loved the food. Prior good reviews were right on. It's a charming little place with brick walls that creates a real French bistro atmosphere. We were there at 6:00 since we had theater reservations so noise level was low, but it did pick up by the time we left. Wouldn't let that stop you from enjoying the restaurant, though. Waiter was friendly and engaging, and attentive. Will definitely go back.

This restaurant is a gem. First course was great. My wife had an exquisite sweet green pea soup, one of our party had potato soup, which again was wonderful, and the beet salad and escargot was wonderful. Entrees like steelhead trout and sea bass were again outstanding. And the deserts were out of this world. The drinks were plentiful and carefully prepared. The restaurant is small, quiet and intimate. Our waitress was wonderfully pleasant and attentive. This was a celebratory evening for our family, and this turned out to be a perfect venue for our dinner. 5 stars to a wonderful restaurant.

Our meal was absolutely wonderful and memorable. Steak tartare is always a risk, but taking that chance, I was rewarded with a creamy, mellow tartare matched with a rich and tangy crab salad, the two of which, perfectly played off each other. The filo appetizer was a marvelous combination of tastes, colors, and textures. Our special treat was the pressed lobster. Ordered ahead of time, the lobster was pressed and prepared table-side. This is essentially a rather simple dish, depending primarily on the quality of the lobster. No matter, it was exquisite. The wine list is small, but covers the gamut of varieties, although you can apparently bring your own bottle if you wish. We certainly plan to return to explore more of Zinc's menu.

We sat by the window and felt it appropriate for a special night. David was our server, he was warm, attentive and very knowledgeable.
