A word from Zin American Bistro
Zin American Bistro is an attempt to modernize and Americanize the traditional French Bistro concept. With Zin recently receiving 3 ½ stars and a review of “quite possibly the best food for the money in the Coachella Valley” from author Peter Osbaldeston’s Palm Springs Dining Bible, Chef Nicolas Klontz and wine director Mindy Reed have indeed raised the bar of casual fine dining in Palm Springs. Zin has over 200 wines on their list and has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 5 years. With choices from the Kobe Style Beef Burger ($16) and Mussels & Frites($18) to the Rabbit ($25) or a Prime Hanger Steak ($26) there is something for everyone. Be sure to save room for some house made desserts and a glass of port for a perfect finish. Attentive, friendly yet unobtrusive service with Wine Director Reed available to guide you thru her carefully selected wine list and Chef Klontz greeting diners personally between courses make dining at Zin a night to remember. Diner Reviews
  • "A very short few years ago it was hard to find a good restaurant in Palm Springs other than Mexican. THANKfully that is no longer the case. Zin American Bistro gives professional service and very good and creative food."

  • "We were surprised to find that, despite being a Thursday night when top servers should be staffed, the service was slow and disjointed from the kitchen even though there were only a handful of tables sat in the dining room. Wine pairings were missed and our dishes, when they did come, were served on plates too hot to touch. Why they would sit under heat lamps for so long when it was such a slow night. All this was made more disappointing based on the fact that it was a birthday dinner. One bright note, the sommelier was very nice and knowledgable."

  • "The food was quite good at Zin American. The space is clean and sophisticated. Our serve Erun, was outstanding. Professional, helpful and attentive, he made our dinner a lovely experience. The drinks were too strong but all in all when I return to Palm Springs next year I will return to Zin!"

  • "Fabulous location on the strip in Palm Springs.... comfortable outside dining - varied menu - sensible wine list - GREAT service - what more can you ask ?"

  • "Had a wonderful night at Zin. Eric was our waiter and delivered excellent service. The Wellington bites and Calamari were delicious apps. The Halibut had wonderful vegetable medeley with fresh peas. The fried chicken was moist and wonderful..Perfect night at Zin..."

  • "Would recommend highly good food and service and not expensive"

  • "We to Zin Bistro on the early side. They were able to seat the 2 of us at a table for 4 so we had more room. The service was excellent without being intrusive. The patio is open to busy Palm Canyon Drive. We found it is best to get a table away from the front where they are a lot of pedestrians walking by. For starters I had the Wedge salad. Not the typical Wedge. A lighter version with chopped tomato and bacon on top. Delish! The hanger steak was served with pomme frites and haricot vert. My husband decided to order sides which included calamari, wild mushroom soup and pomme frites. He had a generous portion of calamari. The restaurant is attractive and sophisticated. Soft jazz music was playing in the background. A perfect evening!"

  • "We have been a few times before and enjoyed it, but were a bit disappointed in the food preparation this time. It was pretty good, but, for example, my rabbit scaloppini was a bit dry, perhaps a bit overdone. Perhaps there were problems in the kitchen as it took a very long time to get our food - although our waiter did both apologize and pour us another splash of wine for our patience."

  • "Very warm atmosphere.Fair prices, great location. The food was wonderful but the atmosphere is especially great"

  • "Very nice, good food..the mussels were great and had a perfect NZ SB to go along with them. Service was perfect!"

  • "I neglected to ask the price of the evening special and found when the bill came that it was $36.00. That is well above the prices of the daily menu. The waitress may have told me the price, but it was so noisey that I did not hear it. The tables are too close together which adds to the excessive noise."

  • "Our experience all round was great! The food was wonderful, the service was top notch and well timed. We ate outside on a lovely patio and enjoyed a leisurely dinner before the Follies nearby. Service was seamless."

  • "The staff was short-handed that morning, but Dominic did his best and we were fine with it. The food was very good. We will be back."

  • "We enjoyed our special dinner at the Zin Bistro in Palm Springs. The food and service were excellent and our waiter Dominick was especially welcoming and gave us insights into Palm Springs and it's history. Would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Party of six served perfectly. Despite being jammed, the hostess handled with class some of the party arriving late and then staying late . Lovely, fair-priced wine selection. Entrees and dinners arrived hot and tasty, including two excellent soups (mushroom/truffle from menu, ginger carrot special), a colorful wedge of lettuce, and Zin's remarkable meatballs. The sand dabs were also cooked perfectly. Noisy to the max on the patio, but great place to sit on a busy Saturday night in Palm Springs."

  • "Dinner there was excellent. I had the Rabbit in Mustard Sauce and a great California Zinfandel. Service was attentive and the environment was lively. I'm a repeat diner."

  • "It's a pleasure to open a menu with unusual offerings but also find age old favorites for those looking for comfort food. Can't go wrong with the mussels, delicious hamburger (as well as hamburger of the day) and,my favorite, fried chicken. It's a lively scene and particularly great for "people watching" from their large, full service patio (weather permitting)."

  • "Were there the night of the street fair but still had wonderful service. The waiter went out of his way to provide wine/beer tastings and took excellent care of our 4 year old grandson. Food was as good as usual, therefore consistent. Nice patio ambience also. Great spot, right in the middle of the action in downtown Palm Springs>"

  • "This was our first dining experience at Zin. My husband ordered the the house burger. He likes his red meat medium well. Our waiter told him great choice, his burger was way past well done. I ordered the chicken schnitzel, the pounded breast was coated in macadamia nuts. Tasty but in my case it could have been sautéed a little longer. Our waiter really rushed us to order. We were dining with new friends and were not in a hurry. But he was! They ordered the sand dabs which were part of the early dining menu choice that night. They said the dabs were wonderful. I guess i would give the experience a 2 1/12. The waiter kept the rating down from a three."

  • "Some unusual and delicious food. Veal meatballs with spatzel was particularly good and lighter. Beet salad and wedge super fresh. Nice wine list. Very attentive staff."

  • "Good omelet though a bit more chèvre in it than I wanted. Their take on corned beef hash was outstanding!! There were many items on the brunch menu I will have to try in the future. It would be nice to be served butter that wasn't frozen -- I couldn't enjoy the bread properly."

  • "Exceptional beet salad and very good hangar steak. A wonderful meal at a good price. Servers worked very hard but the restaurant is clearly understaffed."

  • "A friend and I went to Zin's for brunch when visiting PS. We were seated on the verandah, right next to the sidewalk, and the people-watching was even better than the food. The crowd on Palm Canyon Drive never stopped being entertaining as they strutted, stumbled, shuffled and slid by our table. The food was pretty standard fare, but to be fair, there isn't a whole lot a chef can do with bacon and scrambled eggs to make the plate memorable. The service was prompt and efficient, though our particular server seemed rather distracted by trying deal with other tables while serving ours."

  • "We went to California for a week and dined at Zin on Valentine's Day. They had a lovely pre fixe menu for the event. The mushroom soup, duck breast with a marmelade sauce, and dessert were all very nice. Good service. Would go back there."

  • "Second time here... Food was medicre, even delivered cold.. pricey for what you got compared to closeby establishments good wine prices good service"

  • "It was Valentine's evening. I expected good food and a romantic ambience. This was not the place. The tables were pushed close together for accommodating more patrons. Not so romantic. It was load and crowded. The meal was a prefixed meal. I ordered the duck entree, it was one of the worst meal I had ever eaten. A little mound of cooked spinach and a deep fried 3 inch square piece of polenta (it was gritty and dry) was plopped by this little portion of duck! No garnishes, poor presentation! I ordered creme brulee. Another sad tale. It tasted like baby pudding with course sugar thrown on top. No burnt sugar glaze. I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends or family. Very poor."

  • "My wife and I booked here for Valentine's Day dinner and expected great things. They have a fabulous location in the heart of Palm Springs. There was a special menu for the day. The menu sounded fantastic however the taste of the food was mediocre to be kind. Espresso after the meal was awful as well. The restaurant has lots of potential but unless the chef kicks it up a notch they will suffer. Palm Springs has lots of other hot spots vying for your business ."

  • "Had eaten there a few years back (we are winter season visitors) and had not had reservations, just walk in. Got stuck in the back by the kitchen pantry, so ambiance was not great, but the food was terrific. Reservations, thru Open Table, easy to do, mentioned our previous experience in comments. Were DELIGHTED with this visit. As anticipated, the food was great again, I had special of the day swordfish, perfectly prepared to medium rare, just the way I like it. Husband had chicken schnitzel which was equally well prepared. AMBIANCE excelled. They had pre-determined what table, then also said we could choose any other if we wished. We took the one they had chosen and were not disappointed, one row off sidewalk row. We'll be BACK!"

  • "I am a Palm Springs regular and for whatever reason, never eaten at Zin. We have gone to the place across the street, Lulu"s several times- never really impressed so wanted something different. We made a 9:30 reservation since we were seeing the follies up the street. Well, the follies didn't end until 9:45- so by the time we arrived we were very late. We were welcomed and felt nothing but comfort from everyone. I have read the reviews about service but I found the opposite. We sat outside which was a little noisy but it was warm. Wine and martini's were excellent. Food was very good- the adult mac/cheese wasn't what we expected but everything else was very good especially the stew. I'll be back! Don't pass it by-"

  • "Once a year we bring a big group of friends here to eat after riding the Pal Springs Century. We had 11 this year, and they did a great job. EVERYONE loved their food. They did great pouring wine we brought in. The room was loud, but mostly because of us. Can't recommend this overall experience highly enough."

  • "Organic roasted chicken was heavenly. Tasted like "real" chicken. Husband had swordfish and was very happy. Our vegan friend ordered the vegetables and said it was the best meal she had had in a long time. Definitely recommend!"

  • "The food was fine, though not remarkable. The server was a problem... too chatty, too friendly, too clever while failing at some of the basic tasks; like removing used glasses, plates, and flatware in a timely fashion. If all that is the busperson's job then it's the server's job to see it gets done. The restaurant wasn't all that busy while we were dining so there's really no excuse for such service shortcomings. I think we'll take this one off our list for next year."

  • "I eat here on my 4-5 times per visits per year to Palm Springs, we always look forward to dinner or lunch at Zin. This visit 3 of us tried the priex-fixe lunch menu, we were all happy with the portion, quality, selections and price. I'll make the statement that they make the best truffle infused mushroom soup this side of Paris!!! I enjoyed a great German Riesling by the glass. Very easy free street parking or several lots within walking distance. Highly recommended."

  • "I always know what to expect when having dinner or lunch at Zin, perfection!!! The attentive service, fresh flavorable food and overall experience is why I continue to come back on a regular basis. The patio is fun to people watch and enjoy the great weather. We all ordered the duck which was the special of the day, tender and jucy which is why we ate it all. :)"

  • "Not the dining experienced I had hoped for given the positive reviews I read. The mussels I ordered were the stringiest I'd ever eaten and after sharing that perspective with the waiter, he said he'd let the cook know and that was that. No attempt to "right the wrong" or please a dissatisfied patron. Would not go back there again."
