Great service, good food. The Caesar salad was very good. The short ribs were moist and tender and the sauce was superb. The carbonara was also great with a perfect amount of parmigiana and pancetta. The only disappointment was the bread which was soft and tasteless. The bread was something that one would get at an Olive Garden

Zia's was recommended by a friend, and I will now be recommending it to others. There were two negatives in our experience. 1 - Parking. We (group of 7) had made reservations, but because we couldn't find nearby parking (should have expected this on a Saturday night in Little Italy), had to call and let them know that we would be late. They said it was no problem and did not give away our table, despite us being about 20 minutes late. 2 - Noise. OK, the name says it's a bistro, so I get it. However, the most important thing about a restaurant is the food, and Zia's delivers big time. Every one of us loved what we ordered. Speaking for myself, it was the best spaghetti carbonara I've ever had. Service was also outstanding.

7 of us enjoyed a very tasty and relaxing dinner before heading to Petco Park for the Paul McCartney concert. The food was delicious, our waiter was very accommodating, and we all had a great time. It did get a little louder than I wanted but wasn't crazy loud.

We came to hear Rick Ross and the menu appeared to be adequate, so we bit the bullet and had dinner. Wish we had eaten before we came. The veggie pizza was decent, although it listed eggplant on the menu and there was none on it.. The rigatoni claimed "Italian sausage, broccolini and mushrooms". There were two small chunks of broccoli stem, about 2 mushrooms and the sausage was extremely bland.

We enjoyed a large group lunch. Food was very good and service was excellent. The restaurant was generous to bring an assortment of desserts at the end of the meal on the house, without even mentioning it. Everyone had a great time. Will definitely be back!

A good little Italy find. Was trying to go across street to crowded restaurant ... but there was no wait at Zia's. Bolognese lasagna was really good, and the squid ink pasta with seafood was a solid choice. Only complaint was that our server seemed to disappear after dessert before giving the check, but one of the bus boys took care of us after I flagged him down. Food service was also FAST and server gave a great wine recommendation.

Our waiter: charming, enthusiastic, and over the top about his love of the restaurants House Risotto. I chose Gamberi al Limone (Jumbo shrimp with mushrooms, garlic & capers in a white wine lemon sauce) with a side of House Risotto. The prawns medium size and overcooked. The mushroom sauce: a faint hint of lemon, no taste of garlic or capers. Biggest disappointment was the risotto. It's looked and tasted like minute brown rice, dry, tasteless, rough grains: no sauce, no flavor and no where near the creamy yet al dente texture one would expect from Risotto. With crowds like there are in Little Italy, how about a little effort on the food...and while your at it: how about some real Italian sourdough to start.

The five of us were very pleased with our first-time visit to Zai's Bistro. With a table next to an open window on a spectacular evening in Little Italy, while listening to great music in the background, each of us hand ordered a different entree. What we shared in common was - we all loved what we ordered! The staff was nothing but top-notch!

You wouldn't normally think of salmon when thinking of an Italian restaurant in Little Italy, but this was one of the best salmon dishes I've had in San Diego. Salmon topped with crab and cheese, served with broccolini and potatoes with a lemon sauce - fabulous.

Open table works great, & is really the way to go if you have a group & want your dinner to start out smoothly. Zias was pleasant, all dishes were tasty. Pizza, really thin & delish. Our server was very nice & kept up a good pace without rushing us. One complaint; the pasta was somewhat "too al dente" in the Pasta Bolongnese. Would return for the rest of the dishes & the good service.

Made a reservation for 10, but 12 people showed up. They did not bat an eye. A bit noisy as they had a live piano player, but could still have a conversation without yelling. Service was good, hostess took my stroller from me and placed it in a back room, zero hassle and dealing with other potential patrons hoping to find a table. Food was not unforgettable, but it was good. Capellini Pesto could have used a little more seasoning, but was fine otherwise. If dining on a weekend, make sure to make a reservation as the restaurant was full to capacity.

We ate here for our last dinner while traveling to San Diego. It was a gorgeous night so all of the windows were open so we could enjoy the neighborhood. Our server was very accommodating with suggestions for entrees and making arrangements for a special order for our daughter. I ordered the ravioli with the pesto cream sauce. While the portion was a little small, it was clearly scratch-made with very fresh ingredients and unbelievably delicious. By far, our favorite of the Little Italy restaurants! We will be back during future visits to the area!

Is it a nightclub, lounge or restaurant? food is very good and that alone would bring me back. it was just a bit too loud for me. Keep the piano player and singer but take away the other instruments. That would have made for a much better dining experience. Great prices on wine. And food was damned terrific.

This was my first time at Zia's. The place was pretty full but having booked on OpenTable we were immediately taken to our seats. There was a piano player in one room and a vibrant atmosphere. Even with such a full place I noticed that a number of tables were actually finished and just kicking back, drinking wine and listening to the music. The food was good and not over priced, though the service seemed a little slow. This may have been part of the atmosphere, and the Mediterranean view of taking time to enjoy the food and wine. If you are in a hurry this is probably not the place for you. I would definitely go back.
