Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first time at Zia's. The place was pretty full but having booked on OpenTable we were immediately taken to our seats. There was a piano player in one room and a vibrant atmosphere. Even with such a full place I noticed that a number of tables were actually finished and just kicking back, drinking wine and listening to the music. The food was good and not over priced, though the service seemed a little slow. This may have been part of the atmosphere, and the Mediterranean view of taking time to enjoy the food and wine. If you are in a hurry this is probably not the place for you. I would definitely go back."

  • "Pizza was quite good, squid ink pasta good, we were surprised that the Pomodora pasta had FRIED eggplant dumped on top....easily removable but. not what we expected for the 2$ up charge. Waiter seemed as though he didn't want to be there that night."

  • "the food was decent, the servers werent very enthusiastic. I wanted spread on my bread but I felt like they were reluctant to provide extra spread so i didnt push the issue. The hostess seems pretty nice btw. The pecata i had was presented ok but the taste was not to my satisfaction"

  • "My wife, a friend from Italy, and I shared a delightful meal at Zia's Bistro in Little Italy. We shared Insalata di Cetriolo (excellent), and my wife and our friend ordered the Imbotitti (also excellent). I had Costine al Barolo (short ribs) which were nicely prepared and delicious. We all enjoyed our meal. The service was very good; we were all pleased with our dining experience."

  • "I made the reservations for lunch for restaurant week at $15 each. The waiter told us that it was $25 even though there was a sign in the window that said otherwise. We decided to just order from the menu. The food is really good but the servings were so small that my husband had a PB&J when we got home. I don't think we will go back, a lot of places have good food."

  • "My food was delicious! I had some sort of eggplant dish. A couple others were not impressed with their carbonara. My dad warned the waitress that he had to be quick to catch a flight and she was very good with getting us our food quickly."

  • "Parking in the area is pricey - $8 valet unless you win the lottery get a street slot. Semi-casual dining, but quite pleasant. Staff first rate."

  • "As a family of five we are always in search of restaurants that are good for mom and dad, good for the kids. Meaning we still get to feel like we have a bit of a date night going on but the kids are happy and feel at home too. We stumbled upon Zia's and it was exactly what we were looking for. The decor is cool and hip, but they still brought us crayons so that the kids could play hangman on the paper tablecloth. There was a pretty loud "hum" going on on a Saturday night, which was also great with kids: we could easily talk at the table, but the energy was high enough that an antsy young child was of no bother to any neighboring tables. We will be back!"

  • "Overall dining experience was great. Food and Service were excellent. The restaurant was loud, but it was Saturday night and the place was full. Only complaint was that the calamari appetizer was overcooked."

  • "Great Italian restaurant in Little Italy section of San Diego, upscale dining, casual atmosphere. Large menu, a little for everyone's palate. Food well prepared, tasty, nice sauces, large portions. Server knew menu well, explained several dishes before we made our selections. Server there when needed, but did not rush us. Server quite busy as restaurant was packed, yet kept up with our needs just fine. Very popular restaurant with locals and tourist's alike. Definitely will dine here again."

  • "We have never been disappointed here and they always accommodate requests, outdoor seating, etc. The Bolognaise Pasta is as good as you will get anyplace. The outdoor seating is not crowded and ideal for bringing your dog."

  • "My aunt wanted to go to Little Italy and dine outdoors for her 84 birthday, but I was having difficult making a Friday evening reservation. It seems that many restaurants down there don't take reservations on Friday or Saturday evenings. Since this was a special event, I didn't want to take my chances and not be able to get in somewhere. I had eaten at Zia for lunch, but wasn't blown away by the food. Well, they totally surprised me, and we were both completely satisfied with the food, ambiance, and service. I had a short rib dish, and it was the best preparation of short ribs I've had. My aunt had a wonderful shrimp dish. Everything was fantastic, and the evening was every bit as memorable as it was meant to be."

  • "Good food overall, reasonably priced. The menu is varied but doesn't overextend itself of lose you in a sea of choices. We had a nice table inside, but by open window with a nice view. Wait staff attentive but not intrusive, and helpful for anyone that needed assistance with selection from the menu. I had stuffed salmon with broccolini and it was excellent. The others enjoyed an off menu (lunch menu) item - a large salad with a giant meatball in the center with Bolognese sauce... Overall, I can highly recommend."
