  • "This restaurant has a nice variety of dishes, so it's best to order a few to share. The food is pan-Asian but leans towards Japanese with sushi and other Japanese fare. The rock shrimp tempura was a hit among our group as well the salt and pepper squid. The service was professional and spot on. We highly recommend it for the variety and flexibility of the menu."

  • "It's practically in a hotel, and the host station area smelled like a gym. That's the only downside--definitely would recommend it. The decor and space are calming, and almost all the dishes were really good and reasonably priced. The ramen was a disappointment, but the skewers (we got a big platter) were succulent; crispy spicy shrimp and the brussels sprouts, excellent. Fabulous chocolate cake made to order. Ecclectic, and not fussy about presentation. We needed to get to the theater, and the servers kept the pace very well."

  • "Thoughtful food for people who are thoughtful about food. Extremely knowledgeable wait staff who could explain in detail how they got that wonderful crisp on their cod. We enjoyed the sampler approach that allowed us browse the menu. Surprisingly appropriate portions (the goldilocks portion). Really enjoyed the pork belly and the yellow fin collar. Young feel but a pair of middle agers with a 12 year old child were made welcome and given wonderful attention. The young should go for an education in good food and good cocktails, everybody else should go for the treat of a wonderful dining experience."

  • "I feel so fortunate that my husband and I came across this neighborhood gem during our trip to DC. It was everything we want in a restaurant - modern and energetic ambiance, A-MAZ-ING cocktails, creative and tasty food that is not overpriced, and THE BEST service I've had in any restaurant. Ever. Our waitress, server, and even the manager, were all incredibly friendly and attentive. They did not have a gluten free menu but were very accommodating of my need for gluten free options (including gluten free soy sauce). This spring they will be opening the rooftop for dining - we will definitely be back!"

  • "I picked Zentan because of its large and diverse menu. I had a group of 8, 1 was vegetarian, 1 was pregnant, 1 was a minor, and 1 doesn't eat raw food. All the staffs were more than accommodating in our particulars and was extremely kind to our child-diner. She had a blast! Everyone was able to find something they want to eat on the menu. Cocktail was imaginative, a solid wine list, and sake flights are available. Even though I have had better Asian fusion and sushi elsewhere, I would go back to Zentan for a group setting because sometimes food is secondary to a dinner experience. A solid performance from Zentan."

  • "I went to Zentan this week for the first time and had a wonderful experience. I asked for a quiet table and was escorted to a corner table that was perfect. My friend and I ordered their lunch special, which is a good deal at $19, and includes an appetizer, main, and beverage. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding...attentive and not rushed. I will definitely go back! They have an interesting Happy Hour I'd like to try, too. It's only two blocks from my office and would also be a convenient place to go before a show at the Studio Theater, which is probably 4-5 blocks away."

  • "The food was great! Our server was amazing (a little slow on drinks and clearing plates - but still amazing). We ordered a Fire Dragon roll and got a Firecracker roll by accident and it was absolutely delicious! Then the waitress brought the Fire Dragon roll any way. I had the duck reuben and my guest had the Banh Mi, both were delicious! The reuben had a little heat, but wasn't overpowering. We both felt our salads were slightly overdressed, however. We also got dessert - the semifreddo and molten lava cake. Both, again, DELISH! Super nice, will definitely go back!"

  • "for Asian inspired dishes, Zentan was excellent. The food was perfectly seasoned. Price is reasonable. Started with the Escolar crudo was the best dish with nice heat from the jalapeno offset with jicama. The Pork Belly was moist and delicate and the brussel sprouts leveraged the richness with some bitterness. The salmon belly sashimi was slightly seared (but you can opt not to have it seared) was very tasty. The chocolate lava cake with vietnamese coffee chocolate was rich and the ice cream portion could have been larger to balance the lava filling. The Fukugao Shuzo sake was smooth (and strong). The only complaint that the dishes came out quickly with little to no time in between."

When the food came, it was impeccable. The small plates allowed everyone to taste everyone else's food and there was NOTHING we didn't like.   • "Good overall atmosphere. The restaurant was very busy and staff were really nice. Waiter mentioned several food and drink options that they weren't even offering that night. Why bring them up? The food in general was really good. The major issue with our meal was that multiple courses were brought out either at the wrong time, in the wrong order, or served to the WRONG TABLE!!! One slip is understandable but after two or three it starts to be a distraction. To be fair, I chose Zentan because I have eaten there before (about a year and a half ago) and it was a good experience. For the price, the occasion (Valentine's Day) on my most recent experience I will not be going back. Whatever they changed was not for the better."

  • "Took a work colleague there for a goodbye lunch on the recommendation of a friend. We were impressed with the understated elegance of the interior, all the more surprisingly classy after the very unassuming exterior of Donovan House in which it is housed. Our sushi/sashimi was beautifully presented on simple and stylish large white plates - and delicious, fresh. This is my new favorite lunch place, although with a bill of $50 for two, not going to be an every day sort of place."

  • "I chose this restaurant for Winter Restaurant Week based on availability and menu. My husband and I were so pleased. I always try to find a menu with options for my non-meat eating husband. There were so many dishes to choose from on the specialized menu. Our favorite was the "Dino Kale Salad." So good, in fact, we ordered another! We also had the opportunity to taste the edamame, scallops wrapped in bacon, Vietnamese lamb meatballs, cod and one of the 3 sake offerings. The ambiance was perfect for a quiet and romantic night out. We were seated quickly. The wait staff was pleasant and provided great recommendations. We will definitely go back!"

  • "Went to D.C. for restaurant week and gave this place a try. I was very impressed! The waitress was excellent and helpful about answering any questions about the food and sake. Our 3 courses were a perfect size and all of the food was delicious! I'm glad we ordered a roll that wasn't on the restaurant week menu, because their sushi was also excellent. It was cute inside, nothing too pretentious, but still nice. I would definitely eat here again!"

The kale salad was a little tough - the one at Lincoln is still my favorite. The Bahn Mi had some strange pate on it and the bread was a bit overwhelming. The semi-fredo was pretty good. The problem was it took almost an hour and a half to get all three dishes. Incredibly slow service..."

And love being able to see/walk thru lobby entrance of the ultra modern Donovan Hotel. Menu is great. Worth the time to find parking, worth the money. Great for work-day lunch, special occasion, date night ... anything. Kid friendly? I think so. My kids will love it - they have a diverse pallette but there's something for everyone on the menu."

  • "Good food with an Asian background,modern and tasty. But why is everything served when the dishes are ready, not in an order like Starters, main dishes etc?. Wines are too expensive. And service could be better, especially with the ability to explain the food and the way certain elements were prepared. Our waitress could only repeat what was written on the menu which needed a lot of explanation with almost every second word on the menu being strange to non-foodies. Most embarrassing was the noise level with music of a strange nature, like in bad night club. This was in stark contrast to the food."

  • "This was one of my favorite restaurants in the City even with the parking no valet issues... Had dinner the other day, and found that the menu has been changed to a tapas style... So you know am good with change, but I draw the line when you charge $19 for a small piece of Cod or $21 for a sliver of NY strip.. Mind you, this is while the nonchalant wait-person is encouraging you that you will need at least 3 entrees per person. To top it up the damn valet charged me $22 to park for dinner. I will not be going back and they need to get some tips from Zaytinya even with their loud din."

  • "The manager came to greet us, and took our drink order until our server (Erin) came by. She was warm and informative, provided excellent guidance for ordering from the small plate menu. Not your typical Asian fusion food by any stretch! The Saketini was delicious, smooth and enhanced with Shiso leaf - wonderful. abara pork ribs - the first bite we were in heaven - tender and smoky sweet, with tangy lemon sauce. Hamachi appetizer with orange perfectly tender and fresh unique flavor in the sauce. CHEF please keep the sweetbreads on the menu! We agreed we could eat them every day. Yamabuki Risotto - i thought i would literally swoon with the first bite. Miso Semifreddo for dessert was perfect finish. Service was perfect. Loved it all!"

  • "Our first visit to Zentan's. The service was outstanding. Food was awesome. Loved the set up. The faux candles hanging from the celling, the long bar, intimate dining in the back. The salmon and tuna nigiri were over the top. The pork belly was so tender it melted in your mouth. The Pekin Chicken with bao bun served with hoisin sauce and cucumbers was absolutely delicious. The shrimp noodles were cooked to perfection with just a tad of a spicy bite. Make sure you leave room for dessert. The beignet dessert is a must. The was the perfect ending to an outstanding meal. All in all if you like unique Asian cuisine this restaurant is definitely one you should not pass up. Overall rating OUTSTANDING!!"
