A word from Zenkichi
Zenkichi quietly entered the scene in late 2006 in a then up and coming Williamsburg food scene. The unique cuisine and dining experience have had restaurant goers and critics catching on ever since. The restaurant offers semi private tables for all of its customers and Tokyo-style Japanese
cuisine. The focus is on small plates for sharing and tasting with sake. The menu emphasizes Omakase (chef's tasting menu) which changes every five weeks to incorporate the freshest ingredients of the season. The sake selection includes over 50 kinds of carefully chosen premium sake labels. Zenkichi continues to evolve with a recently added garden. The space is inspired by a Japanese mountain retreat with a glass ceiling that incorporates two 50 year old trees. Which expands the seating space and adds a new dynamic to the already unique décor. Michelin Guide:...a space that feels wonderfully cozy and intimate. A return to the outside world will have you planning your next trip.

We enjoyed all of our entries and
the walnut chocolate pudding got better and better as we reached the bottoms of our respective cups. Most of all, we loved our waiter; He was attentive, energetic, and very informative. It is hoped that we are fortunate enough to be served by him on our next visit."

Very nice place & good service ,
but the price for Sake are very expensive .. it should be much cheaper then what it is , I would like to visit there again but I dont like to feel im paying too much which i can have the same sake cheaper somewhere else ."

The food here is absolutely
amazing for those who appreciate Japanese cuisine. The service is wonderful and the little booths make for a very private, intimate setting."

Zenkichi had been touted by local
Williamsburg residents as phenomenal. I thought it was good not great. Not worth the trip from manhattan for Japanese food."

Amazing food, service and ambience
with a street facade of wood that has barely noticeable signage. Zenkichi has private dinng booths enclosed with bamboo curtains and a doorbell button to push when service is wanted. Otherwise, there are no interruptions unless they are serving food. Near private dining that feels very special with Japanese courtesy. A unique dining space."

This restaurant is perfect. I
highly recommend for any romantic occasion."

I took my boyfriend here for his
birthday. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Our table had complete privacy and was very romantic! The food was delicious, and there was plenty of sake to choose from."

Zenkichi is a unique place that
allows couple and small groups to enjoy a semi-private dining experience by allowing each party to have their own enclosed booths for dining. The venue is dimly lit to further set the ambiance along with soft jazz played in the background. Ideal for couples but worth a reservation for softly-speaking groups of 4, definitely give Zenkichi a try the next time you're in the neighborhood and looking for authentic japanese."

An experience all around. We did
the 8 course tasting menu and were not disappointed. Nothing too foreign to our uncultured tongues. Beautiful presentation. Excellent and polite service. Semi private booths with curtains. Server call buttons. Amazing. Expensive. But for a treat, definitely worth the price."

Took someone here for their
birthday and it was a truly memorable night. Excellent food and very unique environment"
Dined on 2/7/2014
Fun and different dining
experience from what you can find nearby. The service is excellent. The food is quite good--I think the ambience of the place makes if even better. It's expensive but fairly standard for the area."

I love this place. Neighborhood
gem. I often bring friends from out of town hear for the shock of their lives. Food is always consistent and amazing. Mochi balls and black cod are my favorites. Have been here many times. The brunch is also fantastic, not a bloody mary fan but this place I actually crave theirs. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an innovative and great experience."

I have heard wonderful things
about this restaurant, so during our dining experience we were very disappointed with the outcome. Greeting with the hostess was exciting and nice. We were led upstairs through a very intriguing decor. The table lacked candles or anything that could have warmed up the room which I immediately noticed. It felt a bit 'cold' which proved to be the theme of the night also for the food. The food was lackluster and uninspiring. Flavors weren't there and everything felt like it had been sitting around too long. Even simple edamame were bruised looking, cold and not fresh at all. Maybe I will give this spot another chance but as of now I am not impressed unfortunately. We had to leave and get a second dinner elsewhere."
Dined on 2/3/2014
The service was phenomenal. The
secluded dining experience was very romantic. The food was great just a little to extravagant for my very basic palate. But if you are a foodie this place is exceptional."

Had an incredible, romantic dinner
with my girlfriend here. Private booth with a drawn shade, great sake menu, wonderful and friendly waiter. Looking forward to another special occasion so I can go back and try the rest of the menu."

If you are looking for a romantic
spot, this place is an excellent option. Zenkichi is a modern Japanese restaurant and the food is seriously delicious. When we arrived, the host led us through a zen inspired corridor which trailed into various secret booths, veiled by bamboo blinds. In addition to the blinds, each booth has a buzzer so you can call your waiter. My fiance and I tried the Omakase (Chef's tasting menu) with a sake flight. Each dish was better than the next. The chef prepared an eclectic variety of sashimi and shell fish specialties and an elegant rice dish to end. Dessert was a sinful Black Sesame Mousse. Seasonal and fresh are key at this restaurant. I strongly recommend this place, we plan to return for Valentine's Day."

Zenkichi was amazing. The
restaurant is hidden and secretive-all a very cool experience. We ordered the omakase which was great, as well as a saki tasting. Wouldn't necessarily make this a place I will frequent, but its a great way to make a good impression or show someone a good time."

Zenkichi is great for all who is
looking for a special atmosphere while being served one of a kind Japanese dishes."
Dined on 1/2/2014
I like the feel of an authentic
Japanese restaurant. Each table is actually a booth with a straw shade which the waitress draws down so that the guests may have privacy. There is a buzzer to ring the wait staff. The decor is very zen-ly. We had the omakse menu which is a tasting menu. Everything was delicious. They also have a nice selections of sake. We will definitely return and recommend it to others."

Amazing food and ambience! The
service was also way above par... definitely not what you get in most NY restaurants. Thinking of coming back again soon!"
Dined on 12/27/2013
Very unusual place. Omakase
tasting menu was a great experience and very different from what you eat in a regular "Japanese" restaurant. Great sake collection including aged sake. Sake is little pricey for such a small glass. The service was outstanding! Will be there again!"
Dined on 12/24/2013
With one of the best Sake lists in
NYC at all price points and among the best Japanese high end Izakaya style menus, this is a must go to dining experience."
Dined on 12/24/2013
Great service - willingness to
accommodate for special diet for the Omakase was greatly appreciate by our party. Food - excellent, creative."
Dined on 12/22/2013
Had a large group dinner so we had
Omkase. It was incredible. Everyone really enjoyed the dishes, and in fact was more than enough food. They coursed it perfectly, and service is fantastic. Highly Recommend!"

This place did not live up to our
expectations. We read the reviews and was excited to go but was disappointed . The seating although close set needed a little more room for comfort the food was over priced and tasted awful. We did the sampling menu trust me when I say don't waste your money it's like baby finger food -- we actually went Sea after to get a reasonably priced meal that filled us and tasted great"

It was our third time here. The
first 2 times were average for reasons I won't mention here because of a lack of space... Choice was Omakase (not exactly a good deal unless you get exceptional food): 1-we were RUSHED the whole time - they brought the 3 main dishes (cod-pork-tuna) at the SAME TIME. so everything was cold and tasted like pork (more overwhelming that fish) so that part was ruined. 2-they kept coming and lifted the shade to pick up ANYTHING they could find on the table to send the message that we had to eat faster. 3-they brought the check and came back 5 min later. They lifted the shade (again!) and asked us to vacate since there was no more food coming... We were shocked! 4-we paid, asked for the manager, who wasn't there"
Dined on 11/23/2013
The food was extraordinary! We had
the Omakase in additions to other food from the A la Carte menu. The portion of the Omakase was a bit small but all the courses were delicious. We love the Marguro Carpaccio and the beef Tataki from the A la carte menu also. The grilled rice ball with chicken was a bit salty but overall it was an excellent dinner."

Everything was superb. But this
time our server didnt respond to the bell. We had to ring it a few times. She didn't mention that there are no refills making the bill a bit more expensive. I don't mind but that bothered my company that i brought.I was more happy the first time i came. But i fell in love withthe chefs complimentary tuna dish. That was exquisite! I didn't fancy the chicken dish in the log. It had a weird taste. But i will definitely be going back with more friends and for the potato balls! Maybe offer a sample of what people want to order. For example, the chicken in the log. After trying it i wouldn't have ordered the dish. And also you can add that service for $5-$20 dollars."

we had friends in town and decided
on here and went with the tasting menu. we all enjoyed it, it is a mixture of a bit of everything."
Dined on 11/8/2013
It was hard to find from outside.
U walk into a dark place but then u are taken to a private table Wooden curtains separate the tables. It's like u r dining by yourselves. Great for couples. Different food types we did the tasting menu because the menu was. Little confusing. Big list of Different sake's. A place to try for sure"
Dined on 11/8/2013
Zenkichi is a unique and
interesting place to eat Japanses food that expands far beyond the sushi rolls offered at many restaurants. Tables are all private and the menu includes a range of great options. Highly recommend."
Dined on 11/6/2013
The food was delicious and offered
a variety of options. Small plates, like tapas style and gave you the ability to order a lot of different options. All of the servers were incredibly knowledgeable on the dishes and drinks and incredibly professional and friendly. One of my new favorites for sure!!"

Excellent food and great ambience
for an intimate date night."

For those into sake and mostly
excellent and sustainably-sourced izakaya-type food. I didn't try the omokase tasting menu but it looks really good."
Dined on 10/24/2013
Food was not as amazing as usual,
but I would still go back. Looking forward to winter menu."
Dined on 10/23/2013
It was a completely wonderful and
new Japanese food experience for me, in a very romantic and private location. We tried the 8-plate menu and all of them were spotless - you just wanted to have more and more. It was well priced for the quality of the food and the service."
Dined on 10/20/2013
Had great unique ambiance. Service
was great and was above and beyond for a special occasion."
Dined on 10/19/2013
No sake tastes like wine, maybe
next time when a customer asks for that recommendation you can just recommend beer instead? Or really have wine on the drink list. As I have been to zenkichi few times and have try few recommendations of the sake bottles and they all taste more like pure vodka or soju than wine... But otherwise the whole experience of eating at zenkichi has been great!"
Dined on 10/17/2013
Lovely dining experience, with
private booths and buttons for calling the waiter. The food was mostly excellent and certainly exciting. Amazing selection of sakes. Definitely a perfect date-spot."
