Diner Reviews
  • "Their small plates were delicious and beautifully presented. Great cocktail menu too."

  • "I would have to say this is my favorite restaurant HANDS DOWN! The atmosphere, food, drinks, staff.. Always 10 out of 10! I recommend this place to everyone who is looking for something fun, fresh and new. I do not like seafood at all, this is the ONLY restaurant where I will eat seafood. Keep up the great work and I will be back soon! "

  • "Zengo is one of my favorite DC brunches. The bottomless small plates and mimosas is a great deal and you get to try everything on the menu. I recently went there for lunch and they also had some good specials. It wasn't too crowded on a weekday afternoon so the experience was relaxing. Only once have I had a server who was a bit out there and disorganized. Usually the service is very attentive, even when they're busy. Would be a bit pricey for dinner as the small plates add up quickly. "

  • "I had previously been to Zengo for happy hour and was obsessed with happy hour appetizers. This time, the menu continued to impress me. The crab guacamole is incredible and the drinks were outstanding. There was great variety and lovely additions to the menu from the last time I had visited. The server was decent but was a tad forgetful. "

  • "Food excellent. Server VERY attentive and helpful; responsive to our food allergies. Kinda loud place. Cool decor. Food was delicious."

  • "Zengo was a great restaurant. It wasn't over the top amazing, but it was good. No complaints. Server was excellent."

  • "This is the third time I've been to Zengo for brunch, and I think it was the best time yet! Crispy tofu forever! Almost everything on the menu is worth trying. (I keep attempting the chilaquiles, but they never pan out the way I expect.) Everything about this brunch spot is great except for the service. Our waitress was terrific and very friendly, but Zengo does always seem to be understaffed so that you have to wait a bit to get drink refills. Overall, though, this is outpaced by the terrific food and drink and friendliness of Zengo."

  • "It's a great place to hang with friends, have birthday gathering, and dance salsa, meringue, and bachata on a Saturday night. The host downstairs is so wonder. Hes always greeting people with a smile and he gets you seated fast. The food is great to share, and the drinks arw delicious. It's a great birthday or other celebration spot."

  • "Can't say anything bad about Zengo! great service, delicious food, and excellent brunch price!"

  • "Best way to do Zengo is in a group of three or more. Skip the entrees and instead order 3-4 small plates per person and share. Lettuce wraps were surprisingly good (not a huge fan of those typically) and the calamari was outstanding. Also recommend shrimp tacos, empanadas, and the sushi."

  • "When I come to D.C., I always make it a point to go to Zengo. The food has such delectable mixes of flavors and are presented beautifully. This visit, we took a one-year-old and he sat in a child high chair and loved the action. The service was great and they were so sweet to little Calvin. Once again, I was not disappointed. Zengo delivered!!"

  • "Our waiter recommended a new soup for dessert, and it was fabulous. Wouldn't have thought of that, so we appreciated the suggestion."

  • "If you are looking for the best brunch you have ever eaten and a great place for a special occasion with a group of friends Zengo brunch is the way to go. Served until 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays the unlimited small plates and drinks (a variety of mimosas, sake, and blood mary's) will not disappoint. Unlike other places offering a "bottomless brunch" Zengo service is still excellent and rarely does a moment go by when your glass is empty or there is no food on your table."

  • "A few friends and I had Sunday brunch at Zengo. A few of us are hard to please eaters--one is a vegan, another has allergies to soy and almond. Zengo was very accommodating to their needs. We were able to alter a lot of the dishes so members of our group could enjoy. It's unlimited small plates and booze for $35 each, which felt like an amazing deal! We must have order 6-8 small plates of the crispy tofu (DELISH!), a few of versions of different sushi rolls and salads, and the waffles were great too! Sadly, coffee isn't included in the $35 special which is crazy to me, because coffee basically costs a business nothing to make--a little disappointing. But we'll be back for another special occasion soon!"

  • "I came here for my birthday with a couple of friends for brunch. We decided on the unlimited brunch menu, which was basically $35 for anything and bottomless mimosas (can't go wrong with that!). The drinks were delicious, I drank three mimosas myself and couldn't help it. The food came in small portions, like sample sizes, but we were able to order as many orders as we wanted. Nothing really stuck out to us food-wise, except for maybe the waffles. It's a fusion restaurant so I can definitely say we've never eaten anything like what the menu offered us. Overall the experience is why I gave it 4 stars. The service was meh and I expected better explanations of what the dish was, and maybe even something for my birthday, but it never happened."

  • "Great pre-Verizon Center Event dining! Food was lip-smacking good!"

  • "Amazing all you can eat/drink brunch. All small plates, but the food came out extremely fast and the service was amazing. If the drinks were half gone they were right there to top it off."

  • "Pretty good. Great for smaller group of 4-6. Great drinks menu and liked the tapas style menu."

  • "We took our adventurous granddaughters to Zengo to celebrate their academic accomplishments. What a delicious decision. The tuna tacos are superb; the virgin mango mojito was a hit with the under-21 crowd; the service was excellent. Other dishes that we enjoyed: Angry Zengo and Lobster Roll sushi, Salt & Pepper shrimp tacos, Tuna Tataki salad. Less yummy but still good: Hoisin Pork arepas. We need to eat here more often."

  • "This is my fifth time at Zengo, and it's become one of my favorite places to dine in the district, if I have a group to go out. Much prefer going as a group, as opposed to a couple or single diner, since one of the charms of this style restaurant is to go in a group, and simply order many dishes to share. Each dish, as always, was exquisite. We'll see you next time!"

  • "Fantasic experience. Food, service, and ambience were top notch. Host went well out of his way to make us feel welcome as soon as we walked in the door. Our waitress was excellent. Loved the specialty drinks at the bar."

  • "Hadn't been to the restaurant in a few years, so when my wife and I had tickets to a local basketball game it seemed a good choice close to the arena. Glad I chose Zengo! First, when you walk in and the greeter makes you feel like you are the most important couple in the restaurant you know it's going to be a good night. We reserved through open table and waited less than a minute for our table. We were well seated and didn't have to wait for our server who appeared a minute after we sat. Great smile and attitude goes a long way! Our waiter was not only friendly, but made a great recommendation on the fish we ultimately had for our entree. Never had black cod before, but it melted in our mouths. Very flavorful and great with a Chardonnay."

  • "We went for brunch, which has unlimited small plates and cocktails. The food was very good as was the service. The only bad thing was that it was incredibly loud. We had to shout to hear each other."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Zengo does latin/asian fusion food, I can't say that I was great but I can't say it was bad either. It was definitely pretty average but the service was just terrible. I felt like I was constantly waiting for our waitress and she always seemed annoyed with us. Probably won't be back anytime soon."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for Sunday brunch. The seven varieties of bottomless brunch cocktails were great- the mimosa variations we tried were delicious. The service was outstanding. However, the food itself was "blah." Nothing really stood out as fabulous and there were a couple things that we didn't even bother to finish."

  • "We were a party of 4 (including two 10-yr old kids). Our daughter and her friend usually do not like seafood but everything was so well prepared and tasty that she even enjoyed the sushi. Our entire dinner was a wonderful experience, very unusual flavors with well balanced ingredients (i.e., not too spicy). The ceviche was outstanding."

  • "The food was great, the service started off great, but then tapered off at the end. The server was initially attentive and then it seemed like she forgot about us. She also messed up one of the bills, but once she finally came back to the table - it was corrected. One downer was that I asked the host to tell the server we were celebrating a birthday but she never mentioned it, as if he forgot. Kind of a bummer to end on that note when the rest of the meal was enjoyable."

  • "Some are confused by fusion food, but Zengo pulls it off. The food is very tasty and creative and it's fun to try several different items. The creativity of the upstairs dining room is a good match for the food. Fun place!"

  • "We waited too long to get reservations for dinner before the Paul Simon/Sting concert at Verizon. Zengo, a restaurant new to us, still had availability. Everything, from the room, the service and the food were top notch. We tore through the Bay Scallop Ceviche, the Angry Zengo and Volcano Rolls. There were three of us so we then shared Shrimp Vegetable Pot Stickers, the Salt and Pepper Shrimp Tacos and the Thai Shrimp Lettuce Wraps. Each was a surprise and each delicious. The service was brisk and attentive. My only complaint was that they were not open after the concert so that we could try more of the menu."

  • "We were late in arrive (past our reservation time), but the staff was very cordial and accommodating in getting is seated. Food was excellent, very tasteful. The service was ok. I believe we had an individual new to the wait staff servicing us, and they did not put our full order in properly. This led to some delays in receiving our food, but this was not much of an issue. Overall, a very nice experience."

  • "Service was great! Our server did an excellent job of keeping our glasses filled and bringing out food quickly. I just wasn’t a fan of the food. Loved the design of the restaurant but it was rather noisy where we were sitting—which was a separate section in the upper level—because of the number of kids. I think families should be sat in the same area and couples should be sat elsewhere. I just think one set of parents won’t mind other kids being noisy. My lady and I don’t have children so we did."

  • "I usually am not a fan of tapas, but the wide variety that they have makes it a much better experience."

  • "We love this restaurant! We stumbled into it last year and we try to go back every time we visit DC. I've never seen this concept of Latin Asian fusion elsewhere. And they execute it extremely well. The food is clever, tasty and well presented. The wait staff is pleasant and helpful. Food comes quickly; delivered by many different people."
