A word from Zengo - Santa Monica
Zengo is a sophisticated blend of Latin-Asian styles and flavors. Chef Richard Sandoval, whose accolades include Bon Appétit Restaurateur of the Year and Mexico’s Toque d’Oro, artfully spins Latin-Asian ingredients into beautifully balanced dishes designed for sharing. To complement the cuisine, Zengo offers a collection of regional spirits, including Rums, Cachacas, Tequilas, Sakes and Shochus. The cocktail menu showcases Latin-Asian classics, as well as creative interpretations, made with hand-muddled fruits and herbs. Buen provecho!Continued

  • "We have been to Zengo many times since they opened and we love it! The fusion menu is creative and tasty and they have great cocktails. My favorite small plate is the Thai Chicken Empanadas and the Prickly Pear Caipirinha is a yummy drink. We have always had good service at Zengo."

  • "For the past few years I have been a big advocate for the weekend brunch, it was a fun experience in a beautiful location. But with the slight increase to the price, the changes to the menu, variable food quality, and the increasingly poor service I am seriously reconsidering bringing visitors from out of town there again."

  • "Really fun place and great price for an all you can eat and drink brunch."

  • "There is little at Zengo other than hype. The talk of 'fusion' is like that one expects at Chili's of F.G.I. Fridays - fried, greasy and tasteless. If you must go, the shrimp lettuce wraps and the ceviches were the best of the small plates we tried - And we tried most of them"

  • "Saturday & Sunday brunch is amazing. Delicious food, gorgeous interior, lively (loud) ambiance, DJ spinning on the patio... but consistently poor service. Apathetic, unfriendly service is a downside. Food and cocktails are great, but servers make you feel like you're bothering them when you ask for more. :("

  • "I have been to Zengo's in DC and Denver - the Santa Monica location is clearly a notch below the other locations. The staff is mostly inattentive, and the food is not quite as good. The only advantage to the Santa Monica branch is the location - IF you sit outside. I called months ahead of time to request of a table outside, yet were placed inside in a cramped booth with no view."

  • "We opted for the $60 all you can eat small plates & drinks menu. Every single small plate was delicious and exciting to try. I had the limonata and sake sangria and both were so delicious. We were seated outside which was perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! Great for groups, great for dinner, great for anything."

  • "I have recommended many friends but I was very disappointed that even with a reservation I was not seated for 30 minutes and I had to buy drinks at the bar instead of getting the mimosas for the special"

  • "As the title suggests, weekday night out and the place was fairly empty. They put everyone on the balcony. Great vibe, and view overlooking the promenade. You can see the sun set while enjoying dinner. We ordered several small plates including duck tacos, arepas, and empanadas. I loved the empanadas, and the tacos were my second favorite. The empanadas had duck and pork in them, and came with a mango salsa and a thai type sauce. Great blend of flavors. This place is definitely worth a visit. Multiple visits. "

  • "This is my second dining experience at Zengo. I absolutely love this spot in beautiful Santa Monica. The brunch is excellent. The food is delicious. I've already recommended Zengo to a coworker. I plan to return with friends and family before the end of summer."

  • "This was my second visit and they did not disappoint! The food was yummy as ever and the drinks were tasty too. But what makes it better is having a great wait staff. Our server was amazing! She was entertaining and fun but attentive. Great place to take a group of friends and hangout. I wish we got the patio but inside is just as fun. "

  • "This is my second time at Zengo and one thing stands true...service is amazing! Both times, we had awesome, fun, friendly servers. The ambiance is outstanding. Been there for brunch both times. They have beautiful outdoor seating with a great DJ that plays at a perfect volume level. The food is good but has several misses. If they can make some slight adjustments, this will easily become a favorite spot for me and my friends. The food has some consistency and concept issues. But overall I love the adventurous flavor combinations. Some must haves: lychee bellini, thai chicken empanadas, yucca fries, zengo roll, beet salad (great the first time, second time: served warm and over dressed) "

  • "Unlimitted unique tapas-sized dishes and brunch cocktails for $35/person. It's a great value, incredible food, and fun ambiance. We had a birthday brunch there, and it could not have been a better place for our big group. "

  • "Good place for dinner. Food was delicious. I loved the thai chicken empanadas. We went at 7:30pm. Restaurant was still quiet yet seemed to have a popular outside dining. Works with American Airline Dining program."

  • "I ate at Zengo in NY and it was fabulous! I was so excited to see there was one here so I took friends from out of town. It was not the same! We ordered the crispy tofu which in NY was amazing and here was soggy and on a bed of heavy bok choy that was so tough you couldn't eat it. Very sad!"

  • "I'm afraid to even give this the good review it deserves lest more people find out about this hidden gem. Great place. incredibly nice patio with great view. Great service. One of our go to spots after a movie. "

  • "We enjoy Zengo for it eclectic and yummy mix of asian/latin food and cocktails. The empanadas are better than we had in Argentina and the sushi so fresh. Great place to stop for a quick bite or a full meal. Our favorite spot is on the back patio watching the sky change colors. A bit hard to find as it is behind other restaurants in the 3rd Street Mall but once you do, you will be back."

  • "The hostess was a complete snob. Not friendly at all. The food wasn't good. Out of the whole menu only 1 or 2 things were half way decent. The drinks didn't come fast enough, couldn't even catch a buzz in the 2 hour limit. Would never go again. "

  • "I booked a dinner, on a Tuesday night, with our clients. We were there early - at 5:30, and had the unlimited small plates/drinks for our party of 8. The food was really good, and offered a wide variety to meet all preferences. There was more than enough to fill us all up, as it came endlessly. The restaurant was not busy at this time, and the constant food options being passed provided topics for conversation as well as great interaction. We dined outside, and the sun was a bit much for some in the party. Once the sun went down, it was great. The unlimited drinks were very weak - weaker than expected. If you're hoping to catch a buzz without having to drink a gallon, I would suggest sticking to the beer or wine."

  • "Zengo has amazing dishes bursting with flavor. We love the ambience and they have a complete gluten free menu (not just a few meats and veggies, but complete with noodle dishes and Tamari soy sauce for sushi and Asian plates). This is one of our favorite places. The duck tacos on daikon are healthy and delicious. Try the carnitas stir fry noodles also. "

  • "This was our first time at the restaurant. Lunch was with several work colleagues. Everyone was impressed with the ambiance and food diversity and quality. We will definitely return for future lunches. I will return with my wife on occasion. "

  • "Great spot to have an all inclusive food and drink experience for 2 hours. Totally worth the set price for $35 a person. Food is mediocre, but the drinks kept flowing and that made me happy. Pan Dulce was my favorite food and Sake Sangria was my favorite drink. Sit outside if you can because you will feel like you are sitting rooftop in NYC. We had a wonderful experience and you should too. ENJOY!"

  • "I have been here several times and the food and service are always incredible ... Until this last time ... Server ignored us half the time we were brought several wrong food dishes and had to reorder things over and over since our server forgot about us. Drinks were good but we weren't even refilled often enough. We would be sitting around empty plae and drinks. They have also slightly changed the menu removing some of their best food items. I would go back with a large party for someone else's event but I won't plan any of mine here anymore."

  • "Overall the experience was positive thanks to our outstanding waitress. For the rest of the waiters I cannot tell the same, indeed they have all big heads and give attitude to customers (especially 2 of them). For $35 unlimited order brunch for 2 hours it is a good value for money but be aware the music is very loud and more fitted for pool party thema than sunday brunch."

  • "Food was great! Asian/Latin fusion blew our taste buds away. Loved the churrasco steak. Waiter was a bit standoffish but not rude."

  • "I Love Latin food and love Asian food, so this combo seemed pretty exciting to me. This place did not disappoint. I am wimping with regard to spiciness (I know, Asian and Latin food lover??), so that limited my menu choices a bit, but there was still plenty to choose from and we loved everything we tried!"

  • "Took a friend to Zengo brunch on his birthday which was on a Saturday. We made a reservation but we waited about 45min since we wanted rooftop seating. Honestly so worth the wait so if you do make a reservation just go early so you can wait a little to get it. I really didn't know what to expect since there were both good and bad reviews but I was completely amazed and happy with our experience. there was a dj at the top playing music and the seating outside was really nice. brunch comes with unlimited drinks (like 4-5 choices?) and small plates. the plates are perfect sized and there are a lot of options. even though it was a lot of fun i could see it being even more fun in a large group. also service was AMAZING - thanks chris!"

  • "This is my second time visiting Zengo. It's great for large parties and the Brunch Menu is excellent. YOu will not be disappointed. I would recommend making an appoinment because Zengo is very Popular on weekends for Brunch. Definitely worth the $35 dollar price per person."

  • "Everything was great except one thing: it was freezing in the restaurant. I was there with a group of 10 and almost everyone had to keep their jackets on and complained about the chill. We would have been warmer sitting outside because there are heat lamps. (really, we walked out onto the patio and it was actually warmer). The restaurant should provide some sort of heat lamp to people sitting inside the restaurant near the patio because there is no door/barrier and it's just as cold and windy as if you are sitting outside, but you don't get the benefit of any heat source. Re: food, the asparagus tempura tacos were incredible. Very generous with the accompanying guacamole and it was delicious."

  • "Our first time dining here, came for Valentine's. Waiter was super friendly and helpful. Had chicken empanadas: amazing, had sangria: sweet and a bit strong. Had vegetariano roll, was good nothing out of this world. Had the gordita sliders, great taste but expect an appetizer size. Had the cheesecake tres leches: best dessert I've ate in my life, would defineatly go back, and recommend to friends. Try the cheese cake tres leches!!!"

  • "However, the service was REALLY slow. So the all-you-can-eat brunch doesn't feel worth the hefty price tag. There are plenty of better brunch alternatives in Santa Monica."
    Dined on 4/7/2013
  • "The waitress was excellent. She was attentive/knew about the dishes and could answer our questions. The food was fair. The combinations (Latin/Asian) did not always work. They sounded better than the execution. Presentation was excellent. Everything is a-la caret so it ends up being pricey. The music was loud and did not match the food. Soft jazz/fusion would be better. We booked reservations but it was not necessary as 7pm on a Saturday night the restaurant was less than one-half full."
