A word from Zengo - Santa Monica
Zengo is a sophisticated blend of Latin-Asian styles and flavors. Chef Richard Sandoval, whose accolades include Bon Appétit Restaurateur of the Year and Mexico’s Toque d’Oro, artfully spins Latin-Asian ingredients into beautifully balanced dishes designed for sharing. To complement the cuisine, Zengo offers a collection of regional spirits, including Rums, Cachacas, Tequilas, Sakes and Shochus. The cocktail menu showcases Latin-Asian classics, as well as creative interpretations, made with hand-muddled fruits and herbs. Buen provecho!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner was great and the service was fantastic. We had a wonderful night!"

  • "Overall zengo was over priced with poor quality drinks and food.. However, the outside dining area is really pretty. Unfortunately, don't think that we will be returning."

  • "I have been here several times and the food and service are always incredible ... Until this last time ... Server ignored us half the time we were brought several wrong food dishes and had to reorder things over and over since our server forgot about us. Drinks were good but we weren't even refilled often enough. We would be sitting around empty plae and drinks. They have also slightly changed the menu removing some of their best food items. I would go back with a large party for someone else's event but I won't plan any of mine here anymore."

  • "Been here before and had the same great experience...........fun with lots of people, we were 8."

  • "Overall the experience was positive thanks to our outstanding waitress. For the rest of the waiters I cannot tell the same, indeed they have all big heads and give attitude to customers (especially 2 of them). For $35 unlimited order brunch for 2 hours it is a good value for money but be aware the music is very loud and more fitted for pool party thema than sunday brunch."

  • "Food was great! Asian/Latin fusion blew our taste buds away. Loved the churrasco steak. Waiter was a bit standoffish but not rude."

  • "A fantastic Gluten Free Menu, where the food tasted so delish! I want to go back often!"

  • "I Love Latin food and love Asian food, so this combo seemed pretty exciting to me. This place did not disappoint. I am wimping with regard to spiciness (I know, Asian and Latin food lover??), so that limited my menu choices a bit, but there was still plenty to choose from and we loved everything we tried!"

  • "Took a friend to Zengo brunch on his birthday which was on a Saturday. We made a reservation but we waited about 45min since we wanted rooftop seating. Honestly so worth the wait so if you do make a reservation just go early so you can wait a little to get it. I really didn't know what to expect since there were both good and bad reviews but I was completely amazed and happy with our experience. there was a dj at the top playing music and the seating outside was really nice. brunch comes with unlimited drinks (like 4-5 choices?) and small plates. the plates are perfect sized and there are a lot of options. even though it was a lot of fun i could see it being even more fun in a large group. also service was AMAZING - thanks chris!"

  • "This is my second time visiting Zengo. It's great for large parties and the Brunch Menu is excellent. YOu will not be disappointed. I would recommend making an appoinment because Zengo is very Popular on weekends for Brunch. Definitely worth the $35 dollar price per person."

  • "Everything was great except one thing: it was freezing in the restaurant. I was there with a group of 10 and almost everyone had to keep their jackets on and complained about the chill. We would have been warmer sitting outside because there are heat lamps. (really, we walked out onto the patio and it was actually warmer). The restaurant should provide some sort of heat lamp to people sitting inside the restaurant near the patio because there is no door/barrier and it's just as cold and windy as if you are sitting outside, but you don't get the benefit of any heat source. Re: food, the asparagus tempura tacos were incredible. Very generous with the accompanying guacamole and it was delicious."

  • "Our first time dining here, came for Valentine's. Waiter was super friendly and helpful. Had chicken empanadas: amazing, had sangria: sweet and a bit strong. Had vegetariano roll, was good nothing out of this world. Had the gordita sliders, great taste but expect an appetizer size. Had the cheesecake tres leches: best dessert I've ate in my life, would defineatly go back, and recommend to friends. Try the cheese cake tres leches!!!"

  • "However, the service was REALLY slow. So the all-you-can-eat brunch doesn't feel worth the hefty price tag. There are plenty of better brunch alternatives in Santa Monica."

  • "The waitress was excellent. She was attentive/knew about the dishes and could answer our questions. The food was fair. The combinations (Latin/Asian) did not always work. They sounded better than the execution. Presentation was excellent. Everything is a-la caret so it ends up being pricey. The music was loud and did not match the food. Soft jazz/fusion would be better. We booked reservations but it was not necessary as 7pm on a Saturday night the restaurant was less than one-half full."

  • "Our large group of girls had the best time here Sunday for Brunch! You can't go wrong with unlimited cocktails, endless Brunch tapas, great service, and a DJ!"
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "I thought the restaurant was great. Modern feel, very good food, they kept the cocktails flowing. Well worth the $35 for all you could eat/drink. Our waiter was phenomenal. He always had the pitchers ready for a refill. I did overhear the hostess being quite rude to another group at the front. If anything, I would suggest they find a new front of house because she was unpleasant."

  • "We sent for the Sunday brunch. The service was great, the food however was not as good as previous visits. The slider need improvement. The Pan Dolce was still excellent. Not sure if we will come back again."

  • "For DineLA Monday night. Courses: 1) Thai Chicken Empanadas: Mango curry sauce was very yummy. Wished the chicken was a tad bit more moist. Crispy shell, yum! 2) Ancho Rubbed Beef Shortribs: Delicious queso manchego potato puree. Loved it-- creamy and perfectly seasoned. Shortribs were good but salty, which somewhat ruined it for me. Devoured the puree, could only eat about a third of the shortribs. 3) Chocolate Banana Cake: Delicious warm cake-- not too sweet, with creamy caramel on top. Unsweetened whipping cream was perfect since the caramel was sweet enough :) Awesome banana ice cream. Wonderful view and ambience!"

  • "Went here on my birthday for brunch with my wife and son. The all you can eat brunch on Saturday and Sunday is simply wonderful. The restaurant decor is classical, but with a modern twist that works really well. The wait staff however, are simply outstanding. Every one of them seems really interested in making your visit as pleasant as possible, and they are happy to assist you with selecting menu items, drinks etc.. The food: I'm not a huge fan of fusion restaurants, I think it doesn't work well very often when you combine disparate foods. However, Zengo has made me reconsider that policy. The fusion of Latin and Asian cuisines, at least in this instance, works incredibly well. And the Thai Chicken Empanadas are FABULOUS!!!"

  • "Decided to come here for restaurant week. The experience was not good. The seating was bad. I sat on a couch, and it was way too low from the table. It was too cold inside the restaurant. We were served room temperature water. The chicken Empanadas weren't too bad. I had the short ribs for my main course, and it was not what I expected. It looked like a plate of slop and tasted awful. The chocolate banana cake was excellent."

  • "We were seated immediately upon arrival and sat indoors...did not realize how large this restaurant was until we went to use the restroom to wash our hands before dinner. The decor, especially the patio, is super fun and almost a modern rustic. Service was great from beginning to end, and our server made some great recommendations for food. The won ton tacos were our favorite dish we tried, followed by the chicken empanadas, the Zengo roll (sushi) and finally the chicken wings (those guys were super salty). For dessert we had the chocolate bar...nothing, at all, to write home about. The drink selection is great, but you are limited to only one wine from each type of wine if all you want is a glass. Priced very well."

  • "We had a blast on my B-day at this place. WE had unlimited brunch with mimosas. Needless to say we all left tipsy and had 3 hour walk to sober up afterwards))))) Rob was great waiter."

  • "When I called to confirm my reservation, 15 minutes before we arrived, they informed me that the reseravation was not in their system and that they did not have space to accommodate us. It was very embarrassing and frustrating! They said we could speak to a manager when we arrived, but we were celebrating a birthday with a large group of people and I did not want that hassle while the group waited."

  • "The ambiance is great, but the food is definitely not anything to write home about, especially, when you consider the price. Also, the restaurant messed up our order twice, but they eventually got it right. Overall, high price for mediocre dishes."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful. We sat on the patio overlooking the 3rd Street Promenade. It was not cold since they have heat lamps. The food was good, but a little on the salty side."

  • "My best friend and I decided to try Zengo's bottomless brunch special on a Sunday and were blown away by the amazing service, food and drink selections and ambiance of the place. You really get your money's worth and the service was awesome. Our waiter really took care of us and made sure our glasses were full and gave great recommendations from the menu."

  • "We were pleased with the service. The food was good & served promptly. Both my daughter & I are gluten free & they had a menu ready (we made our reservation on OpenTable with our gluten free status in the notes). Very good vibe & would eat here again! Thanks!"

  • "$35 brunch includes unlimited food and drinks. Need I say more? Awesome service, great food, great vibe. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great brunch with either a group of friends, big or small. You won't be disappointed. I'm already planning to return this weekend!"

  • "I have been to Zengo in NYC several times. Don't confuse the two. Where the food, atmosphere, vibrancy and passion eminates in midtown Manhattan, this location is dull and lifeless. Maybe it's just the Santa Monica lifestyle. From the hostess to the waiter to the serving staff all gave the impression we were interrupting their chat time with fellow workers. We ordered three "TK" specials - one was so bad (chipotle beans over a chicken skewer) and unappetizing looking - we couldn't finish it. This may seem harsh but it's a good restaurant in need of a wake up call. I will go back and give it another try because the one in NYC is fabulous."

  • "Saturday was my first time at Zengo, and I chose it to host my birthday brunch because I'm a huge fan of Masa 14 in Washington, DC and this restaurant is owned by the same group. It was an absolute blast. Great food, great drinks, great price!"

  • "My girlfriend and I attended Zengo for the first time, a friend recommended it and we had a great time. Although I had reservations, the bus-girl kindly asked us if we wanted to take a look at our seats for approval, that just set the tone right! The food was tasty, the environment was fun, the service was surpass par, and the music was perfect. We will definitely return and bring others!"
