A word from Zengo - NYC
Zengo is a sophisticated blend of Latin-Asian styles and flavors. Chef Richard Sandoval, whose accolades include Bon Appétit Restaurateur of the Year and Mexico’s Toque d’Oro, artfully spins Latin-Asian ingredients into beautifully balanced dishes. Light preparations and tasting portions invite sampling and sharing a variety of items. To complement the cuisine, Zengo offers one of the largest collections of tequila and agave-based spirits in the United States. Guests may sample over 400 varieties in the downstairs Tequila Library. Zengo also boasts an extensive list of Latin wines and Japanese sakes, which are best enjoyed at the mezzanine level Wine & Sake Bar. The cocktail menu showcases Latin-Asian classics made with fine spirits and fresh, hand-muddled fruits.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was good..had the sushi and shrimp tacos..both filled with flavor. The service, on the other hand, was very rushed. We felt like we were being pushed out the door. I was still eating appetizers and my plate was taken from me. Once they realized what they had done, the waiter brought back a new plate and fork. It's good to get apps, dinner, dessert one after the other, but the waiter handled it the wrong way and made our party feel rushed. La Biblioteca, bar downstairs, is a great Tequila bar and very lively."

  • "Came for a date night. Enjoyed their happy hour, even on a Saturday. Their sangria is great, so are the strawberry margaritas! Ambiance is nice and romantic, perfect for a night out with your significant other. The food was good as well - latin/asian fushion. Our favorite was the yuca (side order) and the chicken empanadas. We also tried the Volcano sushi roll, which I enjoyed, but my boyfriend said it was too fishy. There are plenty of options for all types of palates. Definitely try this place!"

  • "I have been to ZENGO three times and sent colleagues as well. the food is delicious and service is good."

  • "I have eaten several times at Zengo in Denver. It is a fabulous restaurant. Zengo NYC was completely disappointing. The waiter was inattentive almost to the point of being rude (Carlos). The food was fine overall but the churros were cold. Not a good experience."

  • "Selected this restaurant for my wife's birthday. As on previous occasions, food was great with some interesting fusion tastes. Loved the churrasco which was done perfectly. Service was also very good. Cocktails could use less ice."

  • "Happy hour is great. The choices of Tapas were delicious. The drinks make happy hour happier. Dinner was also delicious. I would go back, maybe go to LA Biblioteca and try some of the Tequila. Ole!!!"

  • "it was my 2nd time visiting Zengo and the best experience again! the food was delicious, drinks we're great and the atmosphere was perfect we'll definitely be going back!"

  • "1 - TABLES we were two people and they stuck us in back in a booth large enough for six people which was very uncomfortable. So we moved to a booth in the front, great! So we thought. DON'T SIT IN THE BOOTHS! Every time someone at an adjoining booth moves, you move too. This is really distracting. It's one thing at a cheap diner, but here? They need to fix this ASAP! 2- WAIT STAFF varies. Our server was not the most chipper, and not well trained -- meaning taking plates away while other person was not done. I expect more from this location. 3- FOOD very good. Especially the empanadas or were those the tamales in the salso mango. Whatever it was it was excellent. Other items -- salmon, scallops, were good."

  • "We went at 6 pm so the restaurant was empty and quiet. We got 5 small plates for 3 people and that was plenty. The small plates wet very generous. We were told that tapas were 1/2 price for happy hour but weren't told we had to choose between the regular menu or the bar menu as only the bar menu had the half price. So that was a tiny bit disappointing. Otherwise this good was good. The croquettes of chocolate cake was a little disappointing mainly because we hadn't realized exactly what it was ; ie deep fried outside with the chocolate outside. We ignored the word croquette. The booths were very cushioned which was nice. "

  • "There were five of us in the party and we were all happy with our meals. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers/sides and shared most of the food. Everything I tried was prepared well and tasty! The drinks were great too, mojito, wine, sangria, martini....all were great. When we couldn't decide the waitress was kind enough and patient to let us try different options. The staff was friendly and attentive but not too attentive. All in all it was a great place and the food options were unlike any other restaurant I've even been."

  • "Zengo is one of my favorite 'healthy' restaurants for business lunches in Midtown. The service was attentive as usual and the Tuna Tataki salad (mixed greens, avocado, watermelon, daikon sprouts, wasabi peas, lemon-wasabi dressing salad) was excellent as usual. I recommend the Miso Soup as a starter and normally it comes out savoury and hot. This time it came out luke warm which was a bit of disaapointment. However, it appeared to have some more interesting ingredients, so this was a bit of dispensation. The staff is very friendly and the smiles are real. I"ll be back again."

  • "Visited on a Friday night, although the restaurant was not very crowded. We enjoyed all the food; very unique flavors. Tuna tacos very tasty; pad thai had nice spice to it. Limited wine menu; several wines on list not available. Waiter was slow; wine didn't arrive until after first course was served. Hard to find him after that until time for dessert. Probably wll try other restaurants next time. "

  • "Went for a team lunch to celebrate a birthday at work and the food was really delcious! A little more pricey than your average lunch spot, but nice for a special occasion place. "

  • "I loved everything about Zengo except the food. The pad thai was the nastiest pad thai I have ever eaten. It was super spicy and the noodled where incredible over cooked. The black cod was also grossly over cooked. The servers there we very friendly and attentive. "

  • "The restaurant did not have Air conditioning and therefore was hot and uncomfortable. Toward the end of our dinner they had turn on a portable fan near our table."

  • "Always a good time, whether for lunch or dinner. Front staff is very accommodating, and the food emerges promptly and timely - and is always delicious. I have brought many friends from Europe as well as here, and all thank me."

  • "The server we had needed better training. He reached across our plates of food to put down drinks and take up menus -- that's a huge pet peeve of mine. "

  • "Then take her to Zengo for dinner. This is such a nice and trendy restaurtant with great food. I will definitely come back here again!"

  • "The four of us dined on a Thursday evening. Energetic scene. We were seated at a booth and still strained to hear each other over the music and crowd. The tapas style dining was perfect for sharing while the servers were attentive to replenish our drink orders. Everything was prepared well and tasted very good. Recommend the crab guacamole as a greater starter and Thai chicken empanadas. Absolutely no standing room at bar on street level - all seats were taken by 6:15pm! Least favorite was a saketini made with the "cloudy/milky" sake... yuck!"

  • "I would highly recommend Zengo for a delicious fun dinner experience. Everything we ordered was better than the next. Our waiter was knowledgeable and fun."

  • "I was slightly hesitant after reading some other reviews whether the fusion menu worked or was weird. Well, our party of 7 picky eaters all agreed it was delicious. The Thai lettuce wraps and chimichurri steak were phenomenal, and the tuna w daikon was amazing. The space is also beautiful. The waiter was a bit brusque, but efficient. Drinks were interesting but hit or miss. I'd try the tequila bar downstairs afterwards... The bartender was crazy nice and she happily talked us through a few flights of tequila to taste.overall, thumbs up."

  • "food, service and ambience were perfect for a business lunch. ordered the XO style edamame and bento box. loved the edamame sauce! bento box was a lot more food than expected and worth the value. menu even offers an express lunch option. would recommend to all for both work and personl."

  • "80 deg. outside and no AC! Food was OK though portions were small. Nice airy, large space which is hard to come by in midtown. Unfortunately, the dining experience was not memorable. The best part was getting a booth instead of banquette (yuk!) and not having to rub elbows (literally) with the diners on both sides while being able to carry on a conversation using our indoor voices instead of shouting."
    Dined on 5/12/2014
  • "We really enjoyed the eclectic dishes at Zengo. Only complaint, it was a little warm in the restaurant, they had fans running so maybe the AC broke down that particular evening. Good spot overall."

  • "I used to live in NYC, but after being away for seven years, I was looking for a new spot to meet up with friends close to Grand Central. This was a great find! Food was excellent and service was outstanding! It has the cool ambiance, but you can hear yourself talk, which is nice when catching up with friends. The crab and guacamole appetizer is very yummy!"

  • "A lovely atmosphere, good food, $5 margaritas and good company. A small group of former coworkers met up for a Cinco de Mayo celebration and had a wonderful time. The place has a restaurant upstairs and the lounge is downstairs which suited us just fine. The food was very tasty, the drinks were delicious and the ambiance is very comfortable. The place is appropriate for all occassions, whether with a group social gathering or a date, this is a very good accommodation for both. "

  • "While I think the food is great, and consistent, at this restaurant, the one thing that keeps me coming back is the ability to have a conversation at a normal tone of voice. Too many NYC restaurants have a noise level that make it almost impossible to hear the person you're lunching with. I always recommend Zengo when I want to have a private conversation with someone or discuss business. And the service here has always been unhurried and attentive."

  • "It was our first time here and while my wife doesn't have a pallet for sweet things, everything was so good. Great selection of food and beer, meal came out quick and was prepared right. Staff also went above and beyond to prepare us a special dessert for our anniversary. Really impressed. "

  • "Loved it. Only thing I 'd add is some more fabulous tequila drinks!"

  • "Some of asian foods are not very good. My pad siew noodles, for examples, were pretty bad. I ate one bite, and I didn't eat it. Don't go to happy hour time! because of happy hour crews, it was pretty loud and very noisy. I couldn't here what my friend talks even we were sitting the booth right next to pretty wooden chandelier. I want to check out for the brunch next time. I feel this place will be okay for the brunch, but not for the dinner. "

  • "Stopped here for ~9PM dinner with friends. Enjoyed most of the interesting Latin / Asian fusion dishes and drinks; portion size reasonable for sharing multiple small plates among three of us. Service was OK and place quieted down unexpectedly early (empty @ 10:30 on restaurant level)."

  • "Delicious food and margarita.crab guacamole is a must.we also had chicken empanadas and shrimp lettuce and tuna tacos all very tasty. Interesting cocktail menu! "

  • "We really enjoyed our meal at Zengo. Delicious small plates, including tuna tacos, empanadas and sushi rolls. A number of the small plates come with three items. There were four of us and Claire, our server, suggested adding an extra to each plate. The flexibility of the "add on" made sharing a lot more pleasant. Service was wonderful. "

  • "Service was terrible mentioned to waitress had a 2 pm meeting, this was at 12:45 finally received check at 1:55. Bento box was plain and I had to ask for soy sauce for sushi, fellow diner's had steak sandwich which looked dry. Empanada were very good shrimp with a curry coconut sauce. Atmosphere looked nice, might be better for drinks in the evening. "

  • "The ambience was nice and the food ranging from very good to okay. Main thing is the impersonal service. Aside from the awkward timing (right on us to order as soon as we sat down, then never around when we were ready or needed something) I don't understand the 5 different service people waiting on us. It felt impersonal, and not a super friendly tone on top of it. We were given the dessert menu three times as an example. "

  • "I have been to New York and Zengos many time however my friend who came with me on this trip hasn't so I ensured she got the Zengo experience. Starting with some cheeky cocktails at the downstairs bar was a must - Great Margaritas. Dinner as always was great. Delicious food, great wine and great service. Its always great when the server can recommend a good bottle of wine that accompanies the dishes you have selected. It wasn't as busy this time as other times i have visited which was great as we were able to enjoy the meal at our leisure where as usually its more rushed. As always a great night at Zengos!!!!"

  • "The serving portion is quite small -- for the price of a main entrée, the serving was small... and the churros size was a churritos"
