Diner Reviews
  • "I sat at the bar and the bartender, Julio, was on point. Food was very tasty and the presentation was beautiful. I highly recommend this place and I will go back next time I'm in Miami"

  • "We selected Zen Sai based on the on-line reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. The Bak Choy was addictive and the Black Cod super but we felt there should have been at least four slices. I enjoyed the Scallion Ribeye the most. The staff were outstanding, attentive and extremely friendly and accommodating. Every request was fulfilled with a smile. Our waitress, Sarah, felt like a friend/family member by the end of the evening. And did I mention the drinks? It was obvious a lot of care went into their preparation. We will definitely go back to Zen Sai on our next trip to South Beach; hopefully we will also make happy hour where we can sample some of the food along with the drinks."

  • "Very nice and welcoming restaurant. We were welcomed when we arrived at the front entrance, and taken to our table. Our waiter was very attentive, and helpful. He gave us a very good rundown of the menu, including the specials of the day, and gave us first class service. Great venue, good value and very friendly atmosphere. A great evening, thank you"

  • "We were sure the place is going to be full - it was almost empty mid-week, around 9 p.m., not sure why, as the food phenomenal. We had Yellowtail Jalapeno, Pork Belly sliders, Spicy Tuna, BBQ Eel, Black Cod, Shrimp Tempura and Padron peppers - they were all G-R-E-A-T! Prices are more than fair and overall value for money is unbeatable. Staff was really nice - especially Desiree - who made our dinner even better! Next time we're on that part of the world - we'll be back at Zen Sai."

  • "I cannot say enough great things about Zen Sai. The food was some of the best I've ever had...Chef Mike's Fried Rice and Pork Belly Sliders were my favorites. The drinks were delicious and strong, but hid the alcohol very well. Andrew, our server, was by far the best waiter we had in Miami; he made great recommendations for the menu and helped us find a great local bar to drink at afterwards. The price was a little expensive, but honestly it's totally worth it. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to have a great dinner, whether it's a romantic night out or just getting some food with friends."

  • "Our waiter was amazing and the food was outstanding. This was a great find for all four of us. We will definitely go back the next time we are in town. We had a need for gluten free and they still had incredible food. "

  • "Loved the food here, specifically the garbanzo spring rolls, yum! Also blackened cod amazing. We had a table for two by the pool, very pretty ambiance however the mosquitos ate my legs up! I couldn't wait to get out of there to stop the itching which was the only downside!"

  • "Found this restaurant by accident while on vacation alone in SoBe. I went on a Saturday night, it was very quiet in the restaurant but very loud around the corner on Ocean drive. The wait staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful in selecting menu items and drinks. Every dish and drink they brought out was beautifully prepared and delicious. The Garbanzo spring rolls are a must! I loved it so much I went back the next night to try a few more items on the menu! Don't miss out on this place while in South Beach!"

  • "Good food, reasonable prices and very good service. Though I was looking for a sushi restaurant end they only had 5 different kind of rolls."

  • "We cannot rant more convincingly about Zen Sai... The eat service ever. The most delicious menu ever. The flavours of even the most standard dishes (like edamame) were so different to anything we've tasted before. The service was outstanding... Did I mention the service? Outstanding! The ambience was perfect, we had an outside table by the pool (there is only two of them so book early), and they even gave us a free glass of bubbly each as we were celebrating our engagement! The wine list was really good too, try had wines from most regions and the staff really knew their wines, bonus points from us for that! Do not miss this gem. It is down as our favourite retaurant of all time now! "

  • "The appetizers were extraordinary, especially the spicy rock shrimp and chick pea spring rolls. The sliders were interesting, flavorful, and light. The sushi rolls were tight and tangy and unpredictable. The sake sangria was to die for as was the very smooth sake margarita. The happy hour had great food choices and drinks 1/3 the price. Suffice it to say that we went twice for dinner at Zen Sai in 3 days, once with the kids and once more romantically without. We will be back again and again."

  • "What a fantastic meal.. Prior to our reservation the manager called me personally and told me the Chef would not be there that evening due to him falling ill. I am not sure any restaurant in the world would have done that and the sheer class of that alone made me willing to trust that my meal would still be up to par. The entire experience was fantastic. We had a fun waitress, Desiree who took great care of us and made very good recommendations. Fun evening and fantastic food."

  • "Fantastic service and fantastic service! Nice and quiet spot in a wild and hectic neighborhood."

  • "Food was very good, server excellent and very attentive. The biggest issue is that it's located in the middle of the Sobe nonsense. If it was located South of Fifth, it would be hitting on all cylinders. Too much exposure to street noise and rowdiness"

  • "I was looking for good sushi in South Beach and found this place ... not exactly a sushi restaurant, although we did have 2 delicious rolls there. The food was amazing and our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. This place is a gem and we'll definitely be going back on our next trip to south beach!"

  • "We went to Zen Sai to celebrate a bachelorette party before heading next door to the Clevelander Hotel. We weren't rushed and were able to spend a rather long time just enjoying ourselves and ordering small plates and sushi as we wanted to. Afterwards, our waiter helped us to skip the line at the Clevelander and go up to the rooftop bar for some awesome people watching. The food at Zen Sai was delicious and perfect for sharing with a group. The drinks were equally as delicious."

  • "Our first time in ZS. Friendly service. Average food. Slow main course. After waiting 45 minutes for a fresh noodles dish we were advised that they have just run out of noodles..... We asked for the cheque and left. They did give us a 30% discount on the bill but no noodles..."

  • "Zen Sai was a truly great dining experience. We were 10 ... six adults and four kids ranging from 5 to 16 years old. Jose, our waiter, did a super job in taking care of all of us ... from the youngest to my 70 year-old father. We ordered a bunch of things, each came out as they were prepared. HINT ... Come with a group! We found everything to be very good to excellent. The black cod was out of this world; everything else was wonderful. All the adults had cocktails and with tip, we ended up spending only about $45 per head. The price to experience and value ratio is great. We ate outside... Reserve an outdoor table in advance and enjoy the dinner. When you're done, you're a block from the beach, so you can walk off the experience!"

  • "Every restaurant that keeps inventing new ways of expanding fusion definition deserves some extra credit. This place located literally around the corner from the South Beach action serves very interesting, tasty and innexpensive (considering touristy location) Asian inspired fare. Everything we had: ribeye, spicy tuna (on delicious crispy rice), tuna tata and tempura were simply delicious...to the point that we had to order more of two latter items. We also had a prosciutto based roll flavored with truffled oil - one of the most inventive rolls I've ever tried. And finally, the most impressive part of our dinner was impeccable service: friendly and very attentive. Great place for an outdoor meal."

  • "We went with a party of 6 on a Saturday. We were seating and greeted quickly and we quickly placed in our drink order. The waitress seemed more interested in our plans after than taking the order. After about 15 minutes after we ordered the drinks we ordered the food. About an hour later we went to the manager to see why we had still not gotten our drinks yet. After an hour and 15 minutes we finally got some of our drinks. We got a bottle of sake but no glasses. Food slowly began coming out after an hour and a half. The place wasn't very crowded and the bar was completely empty. After another 30 minutes the final meals came out after continously going to the manager to ask whats going on. The food was at least very good."

  • "Great food for a very reasonable price! We were a group of 7 and sat next to the pool, which was a beautiful atmosphere. The food came out at different times and we were missing a couple of sides, but the server took the items off the bill and brought some free sushi as compensation which made up for it."

  • "Found this by review only, but could not be more pleased. The food was fantastic and service equally so. Been to Nobu, but this is better for everything above. Much quieter experience and not just moving people through like some places. Sat outside by the pool which is actually right behind the Clevelander, so can hear music in background which is nice, but not too loud. Will definitely go back when in South Beach again."

  • "Zen Sai is the restaurant of the Essex House hotel in South Beach. The entire staff is attentive, friendly, and enhances the dining experience! We ordered many different dishes - fried bok choy (wow), edamame, garbanzo spring rolls with cilantro curry cream (my favorite discovery), fingerling potatoes, Jalapeno Yellow Tail, grilled organic chicken and ribeye with balsamic teriyaki, chili garlic and serrano vinaigrette sauces. Absolutely everything was delicious. For dessert we had bread pudding, dipped in waffle batter and fried and then served with vanilla ice cream. Overkill? Yes. Could've served 4-6 people. But it was divine!"

  • "We sat down by 8:30PM and were very well received by the host and the bar woman. We placed our order and the first appetizer took about half an hour to be delivered. 3 other appetizers were missing and after more 30 minutes we canceled the remaining of the dishes and decided to leave."

  • "Most impressive of all was the service, explanation of the food and the enormous dedication to food. Having been in Japan several times, I do recognize some North American influences, but the quality is excellent and although not recommended by the crew, the Black Cod is our favourite and we actually ordered another portion of this great dish. A very nice and relaxing outdoor dining place - I wish we had this near to us in the Netherlands..."

  • "We visited Miami and found this place via Travelzoo. The service was unbelievable...such a well run restaurant where everyone was friendly and attentive. The pork belly sliders and the yellowtail with jalepeno are two stars of the menu, but there was not a bit that was bad! It was so good, we went back the second night for another round!"
