Diner Reviews
  • "What a fantastic meal.. Prior to our reservation the manager called me personally and told me the Chef would not be there that evening due to him falling ill. I am not sure any restaurant in the world would have done that and the sheer class of that alone made me willing to trust that my meal would still be up to par. The entire experience was fantastic. We had a fun waitress, Desiree who took great care of us and made very good recommendations. Fun evening and fantastic food."

  • "I was looking for good sushi in South Beach and found this place ... not exactly a sushi restaurant, although we did have 2 delicious rolls there. The food was amazing and our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. This place is a gem and we'll definitely be going back on our next trip to south beach!"

  • "Food was very good, server excellent and very attentive. The biggest issue is that it's located in the middle of the Sobe nonsense. If it was located South of Fifth, it would be hitting on all cylinders. Too much exposure to street noise and rowdiness"

  • "Our first time in ZS. Friendly service. Average food. Slow main course. After waiting 45 minutes for a fresh noodles dish we were advised that they have just run out of noodles..... We asked for the cheque and left. They did give us a 30% discount on the bill but no noodles..."

  • "We went to Zen Sai to celebrate a bachelorette party before heading next door to the Clevelander Hotel. We weren't rushed and were able to spend a rather long time just enjoying ourselves and ordering small plates and sushi as we wanted to. Afterwards, our waiter helped us to skip the line at the Clevelander and go up to the rooftop bar for some awesome people watching. The food at Zen Sai was delicious and perfect for sharing with a group. The drinks were equally as delicious."

  • "Zen Sai was a truly great dining experience. We were 10 ... six adults and four kids ranging from 5 to 16 years old. Jose, our waiter, did a super job in taking care of all of us ... from the youngest to my 70 year-old father. We ordered a bunch of things, each came out as they were prepared. HINT ... Come with a group! We found everything to be very good to excellent. The black cod was out of this world; everything else was wonderful. All the adults had cocktails and with tip, we ended up spending only about $45 per head. The price to experience and value ratio is great. We ate outside... Reserve an outdoor table in advance and enjoy the dinner. When you're done, you're a block from the beach, so you can walk off the experience!"

  • "Found this by review only, but could not be more pleased. The food was fantastic and service equally so. Been to Nobu, but this is better for everything above. Much quieter experience and not just moving people through like some places. Sat outside by the pool which is actually right behind the Clevelander, so can hear music in background which is nice, but not too loud. Will definitely go back when in South Beach again."

  • "Every restaurant that keeps inventing new ways of expanding fusion definition deserves some extra credit. This place located literally around the corner from the South Beach action serves very interesting, tasty and innexpensive (considering touristy location) Asian inspired fare. Everything we had: ribeye, spicy tuna (on delicious crispy rice), tuna tata and tempura were simply delicious...to the point that we had to order more of two latter items. We also had a prosciutto based roll flavored with truffled oil - one of the most inventive rolls I've ever tried. And finally, the most impressive part of our dinner was impeccable service: friendly and very attentive. Great place for an outdoor meal."

  • "Great food for a very reasonable price! We were a group of 7 and sat next to the pool, which was a beautiful atmosphere. The food came out at different times and we were missing a couple of sides, but the server took the items off the bill and brought some free sushi as compensation which made up for it."

  • "We went with a party of 6 on a Saturday. We were seating and greeted quickly and we quickly placed in our drink order. The waitress seemed more interested in our plans after than taking the order. After about 15 minutes after we ordered the drinks we ordered the food. About an hour later we went to the manager to see why we had still not gotten our drinks yet. After an hour and 15 minutes we finally got some of our drinks. We got a bottle of sake but no glasses. Food slowly began coming out after an hour and a half. The place wasn't very crowded and the bar was completely empty. After another 30 minutes the final meals came out after continously going to the manager to ask whats going on. The food was at least very good."

  • "Zen Sai is the restaurant of the Essex House hotel in South Beach. The entire staff is attentive, friendly, and enhances the dining experience! We ordered many different dishes - fried bok choy (wow), edamame, garbanzo spring rolls with cilantro curry cream (my favorite discovery), fingerling potatoes, Jalapeno Yellow Tail, grilled organic chicken and ribeye with balsamic teriyaki, chili garlic and serrano vinaigrette sauces. Absolutely everything was delicious. For dessert we had bread pudding, dipped in waffle batter and fried and then served with vanilla ice cream. Overkill? Yes. Could've served 4-6 people. But it was divine!"

  • "I find a lot of well ranked Japanese are a bit predictable. But this one is a stand out. This is the Hakkasan of Japanese. Each dish has textures and flavors that were all so great. Don't miss the spicy rock shrimp for this crunchy amazing flavor, the pork sliders, and the cod. Omg the Cod. All while sitting outside enjoy the summer of Miami. Least favorite aspects - there were only a few Reds on the list - the one we picked was a different year than what was listed and sadly not as good a vintage versus what was on the menu. Not a place for a wine-focus dinner. And the dessert was interesting but not worth the calories. Nevertheless - an exciting find and must go. Sit outside - the inside tables are way too close together..."
