Diner Reviews
  • "Food is amazing. Had breakfast, lunch, dinner and even afternoon appetizers there. The food is absolutely delicious and service impeccable."

  • "I was really impressed to see a variety of creative vegetarian/vegan options. (I had the roasted vegetable and quinoa and it was delicious!) There was of course great options for my carnivore husband as well!"

  • "This past Friday evening, four our of us ordered four different dishes. Our vegetarian friend was impressed that almost a quarter of the entree menu was of that ilk, and two of those selections were vegan to boot. One friend had the salmon, and she spoke well of it. I had the beef, ordered medium-rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Good selection of local VQA wines. Staff, including out front in the hotel, were remarkably friendly and courteous. Price was reasonable for fine dining in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Wished I knew there was parking out back."

  • "The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful and informative. The presentation was really exceptional and there was no issue with the quantity of food. The restaurant likely only seats about 40-50 people but they do have some tables that would be excellent for groups of 8. I would highly recommend Zees for anyone looking for a new place to try in NOTL."

  • "Zee's Grill was not what we expected. My first impression was that this would be the first & last time we would go there. Then Ashley came to our table & said she would be serving us & my impression started to change. She was friendly, knowledgeable & extremely professional. She helped us with the wine choices to go with our various courses & was bang on for each one. When the food came we were impressed with both the presentation and the taste. The food was outstanding. The decor is very tired and more pub like than one would expect given the caliber of the food & service. The food & service will attract us there on occasion but not as often as it could if the ambiance was better."

  • "A truly fantastic, phenomenal, experience. My girlfriend and I dressed up for a romantic night out and we weren't disappointed. The staff, from the maitre d to our waiter to the busboy and staff serving our plates were all super friendly and professional. Our waiter knew every detail of our dishes and was able to make great recommendations. We had a surprise amuse bouche which was a wonderful way to start our meal. I ordered off the a la carte menu and my girlfriend off of the Fabulicious menu. Both were top notch. I enjoyed the nori wrapped rare tuna dish and can only describe it as "eyes rolled back in my head, sit back and savour" amazing. I was blown away, my expectations were most definitely exceeded. I would go back in a heartbeat!"

  • "We had rceived rave reviews for Zees as well as the Hotel itself; turned out to be not as pleasant as expected. The menu was limited (not much to choose from); food was good but the service was very, very slow. Wait staff was great but it took forever to get our food. We had reservations for 8pm and arrived a few minutes early. While it was busy night, we noticed others, who arrived after us, got their food quicker/before we did. Time between each course seemed endless. Restaurant was basically empty by approx. 9:15ish and we were the last ones to leave at 10:30 and not because we sat around chatting. While I may recommend the restuarant to others as the quality of the food was good, there are other, better restaurants I would suggest."

  • "We had a group of 8 people for lunch, and we were treated very well. Great lunch menu, and great location if you're going to see a play at Shaw."

  • "Waiter was very helpful in explaining the menu and offering suggestions. Vegetarian pasta dish was exquisite, not at all like regular boring pasta!"

  • "My wife and I took a Valentine's interlude to Niagara on the Lake. As part of the trip, I used Open Table to select Zee's based on previous reviewer's experience. It turned out to be a short winter evening's walk from where we were staying (Queen's Landing) and the staff were warm and gracious in getting us to our table and settled. I had the rib eye and my wife had the salmon. Both were excellent. The service was great (attentive but not overbearing) and the ambiance of the place suit the occasion well. The restaurant is right across the street from the Shaw Festival theatre, and we'll likely return to Zee's when we go back to NOTL for the Shaw Festival in the Summer."

  • "We started with the Niagara cheese plate. What a delight. Such good selections. We moved on to a very nice HERB ROASTED ONTARIO CHICKEN BREAST for myself and AAA CANADIAN BEEF RIB EYE for my husband. A very nice meal - perfectly sized portions that allowed us to consider dessert. I ordered the apple donuts which were very similar to apple pie but in need of more spice - the dough was bland and over all it needed some cinnamon. My husband ordered the banana bread pudding which in the description said it had bacon in it. All I can say is GROSS! The slice of banana on the top of the dessert was the best part. All of the rest tasted of very smoky bacon. It was the worst possible way to end what had been a nice dinner."

  • "It was a very snowy evening, and as such the restaurant was quiet, which made the ambience and service very personal. We enjoyed the wine & food as it was exceptional and served in a relaxed and accommodative manner. We would highly recommend Zee's for any special occasion.b"

  • "We went especially for the Indian Food night. Unfortunately the Indian cuisine was not to our liking. The menu described the dishes as curry dishes however, they may have been from a region of India that has a different view point of curry. We ordered two dishes which were bland and mostly stewed tomatoe with meat in them. The samosas were very good. We definitely lack any kind of quality Indian food in the Niagara Region and we were especially looking forward to the curry at Zees. We definitely will not be back for their curry and will continue to satisfy our craving at the Angel Inn with their baked chicken curry. On the positive side ,the service was very good. John was excelent as were the other servers."

  • "Everything we had here was great. The Warm Thai Sesame Crusted Beef Salad was awesome the best salad we ever had. The Roasted Celeriac & Apple Veloute was good. The Nori Wrapped Rare B.C. Albacore Tuna Loin was light and tasted very good no fishy taste. The Nova Scotia Lobster Poutine was one of the best Lobster Poutine i ever had. I would definitely come back here again."

  • "Went to Zees Grill during the ice wine festival. Ordered the Cheese appetizer, it was a nice way to start the meal. It was a variety of cheese and different sides? You can eat alone or pair with cheese. One recommendation would be to provide some guidance what side(mustard) was intended for which cheese( blue? Gouda?). We experiment with the pairing and everything was great, but would've been good to know the thought behind the cheese pairing. The entrees were delicious, we got the pork tenderloin and rib eye. Every bite was flavourful leaving you feel so satisfied. I also saw Zee offers brunch, so really hope I'll get a chance to go back and try that next time."

  • "This was our second visit to Zees and we were even more pleased with our dining experience this time. We brought our friends along, one of whom has a nut allergy. Not only did they modify his entire meal without hesitation, but every appetizer, and even the amuse bouche was brought nut free especially for him. Quite impressive. Our server was knowledgable and funny. On top of all that, our food was incredible! The salmon was delicious, and my husband broke down and enjoyed the lobster poutine--what a treat!"

  • "We've been to Zee's restaurant a few time already and we just cann't visit Niagara on the Lake with-out going to Zee's. Plus all the time that we've been going to Zee's we've had the same waiter Kevin. He is amazing, and you can tell that he loves his job."

  • "Very unusual twist on a Caesar salad. Made with traditional homemade dressing, topped with battered anchovies, tiny breaded morsels that ooze garlic and cheese when bite into them. Really the best part of the meal. The steak was average, a bit tough for a fancy, expensive . Would definitely return for that salad. The inside is nice but not as ambient as the wrap around outdoor seating."

  • "Ordered the Reuben and lobster poutine to split and share. Both were fantastic, and the service was exceptional."

  • "Service was impeccable. The server took the time to describe the wines and even gave us a back story behind the winery of the one we chose. Food had so much flavour. We tried two different salads and two different mains. I highly recommend the steak salad and the whitefish as a main. A delicious play on a carbonara made with squid ink fettuccini. My south waters as i think about it. Their flourless chocolate cake was amazing too. My only complaint would be that the espresso tasted like one that was made using a stove top espresso pot rather than a good coffee machine. Highly recommend this gem if you're staying at Niagara on the lake - a short elk from the Queens Landing."

  • "We'd been to a couple of other nice spots in the region, and had good experiences. This was a special occasion - our 20th wedding anniversary - so we were looking for something a little different. Many restaurants, especially those affiliated with wineries, tend to have menus that focus on meat. That's fine, but we both eat vegetarian when we're out. With a little research, we landed on Zee's, and were very glad we did. The place has a much more relaxed, less pretentious feel than some of its counterparts. We enjoyed the two vegetarian entrees, the cheese plate, dessert and the wine pairings. The fireplace in the dining room was also a nice touch. The experience a total winner. We'll be back, and would recommend it to friends."

  • "My girlfriend and I recently went here as part of our weekend getaway in NOTL. We had an absolutely amazing salad as an appetizer - butternut squash, ham hock, mushrooms, feta...it was great. The mains were good, but they didn't arrive until 25-30 minutes after we had finished our appetizer. The fried chicken was really good, although a little heavy. Chicken and chorizo were tasty, but they could have lightened up the dish by adding some greens instead of a bean ragout. Our other main was the steak, which we ordered medium but it ended up on the rare side of medium-rare. It was decent, but not great. My only other criticism is that the wine list seemed significantly overpriced for Niagara wines. Overall, I would recommend to friends."

  • "My friends and I made reservations for 5 -- unfortunately, we were placed at a large table and were quite a distance from each other. Lots of space to spread out -- but … ! I would have preferred one of the smaller tables where it would have been easier to talk -- it seems that large groups -- 7 or 8 would be better served at our round table -- My food was fabulous -- curry squash soup and squash/mushroom salad -- the waitress was very helpful. Everyone in the group enjoyed their food. We had a leisurely lunch and were able to walk across the street to the Shaw theatre in plenty of time for our Matinee. I made a noon reservation and the matinee started at 2 p.m."

  • "My husband and I have been coming to NOL for over 15 years and this was the first try for Zees. What a great surprise! We had seen good reviews but didn't know what to expect. The food was not only delicious but creative and presented beautifully. The service was superb. John was very friendly and attentive. He helped us pair wines with our food and made useful suggestions about the menu. We will definitely be back."
