Went to Zebra to Celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. The restaurant staff made it special by wishing him happy birthday when we arrived and providing a complimentary drink. Our waiter was the fabulously attentive Joseph "Joe" and the food was absolutely excellent. Everything we order was great. I had salmon for my entree and my boyfriend had the lamb. Both were excellent choices. The dessert was also excellent.

We don't live in Charlotte but do go there a few times each year for shopping and to meet friends. Each time we try to schedule a dinner at Zebra. It is elegant, and the food is well prepared and nicely presented. The table d'hôte is a real bargain.

Our family joke is if a restaurant goes bad, it'll happen on my birthday. This year, Zebra broke the 'spell'. Everything about our dining experience on September 5 was pitch-perfect. The service was attentive; they seemed to anticipate our needs without interrupting conversation. We're still raving about the food. Starting with the bread: perfection served with herb butter. My mushroom soup appetizer was divine. My husband loved his Pate de Fois Gras. Everything about my Dover Sole was inspired and delicious. My husband had a combination of filet mignon, shrimp & lobster he said was wonderful. We ordered a Chef's Sampler to share for dessert; the plate came decorated festively for the occasion. Thank you, Zebra for a memorable birthday!

The food was very good but was not hot when served. Restaurant was having a special event in the main dining room and we were shown to our table by going through the kitchen to a small dining room. Noise level was very high from main dining room and could not enjoy our conversation with others in at the table.

As usual, Zebra was superb. The food was excellent and the service was terrific and friendly. The wine added to the enjoyment. Of special note: the perfectly cooked trout and sole, the baby lobster, the mushroom soup, the simple salad and the vase salad. The salads are always excellent.

it was a pleasure to share with friends a lunch at Zebra's. the lobster bisque was the best we had ever had and we will be ordering the bisque in the future. the " lobster roll" was delicious, but not "New England" style which is seasoned differently. it might be interesting to offer both and see which one is preferred. the desert variety platter is wonderful, a great way to end a fine meal. thanks so much !

    Unexpected

Dinner was a bit different from what I expected. The room where I was placed was extremely close in proximity to other patrons. It was easy to hear the conversations to the tables next to us. When the servers were taking orders or doing things at tables next to me their rear body was very close to me and my wife's personal space. I expected to be in a place that had more space between the tables. The services wasn't as good as I expected either. The main entry took a long time to come out after the appetizer and the salad. Speaking of appetizer, don't order the seared scallops. You will only get two medium sized scallops on top of some black rice (very good tasting rice.) The entree was very good. Try the Rainbow Trout (can't go wrong.)

we went to try out the $35/3 course deal. I was disappointed by the service and food, especially of a restaurant at this supposed level. I had to ask for bread numerous times (waiter forgot, then was never offered anymore), and my water wasn't automatically refilled. In my opinion, you should never have to ask for such things, esp at a high-scale restaurant. also, ordered a beef entrée medium. the meat came out cut open (2 pieces) and was so rare it was purple. I sent it back, they apologized. came back charred on the outside. it can sometimes be hard if the filet is intact and can't be seen, but this was a piece cut in two served so they could clearly see the inside was almost raw. horrible. I will say, the desert was good. will not return

This was my second time visiting Zebra. I was again not disappointed about the food. Every course was wonderful from the Carrot Soup as an Amuse Bouche to the dessert. We decided to share a meal because the portions are generous and to be healthy. This may have caused a negative reaction from the server. We had to repeat the order multiple times, it took a long time to get rolls (which were delicious), and the whole pace of the meal was off. Our server was not friendly...very disappointing. Thankfully, we had been there before and knew that this was an off night. We had the smoked salmon and Zebra salad to start...so good. The lamb tenderloin with potatoes was fantastic. Overall, a delicious meal with yucky service.

We made a reservation through open table which the restaurant did not have. So it made for few awkward moments as they tried to find a table in their virtually empty restaurant. They then proceeded to give us a table in front of the kitchen door where we were able to observe every member of their staff race by but not stop to wait on us. We suffered through a very inattentive waiter and multiple other staff that had to continuously jump in because we were not being helped. It took 20 minutes to even receive our first drinks after having waited at least 15 minutes to order them! All in all the food was uninspiring and fell flat and we left without furthering our disappointment and enjoyed our dessert wine elsewhere.

We had NO FOOD (other than rolls) for over 1 hour and 15 minutes. Getting through entrees took another 75 minutes for a total of over 2.50 hours with no dessert, although we had paid for it. Kitchen incapable of putting out food on a timely basis, although the restaurant was less than half full. Food itself was average at best. Dover sole was overcooked and lifeless. Tournados of beef was fair, nothing special. Portions are miniscule, even smaller than what Zebra has been known for in past. Although only party of 6, Zebra added a mandatory 20% service charge. When I followed up with the manager the next day, he was aggressively rude and refused to accept any criticism. We will never go back. Still expensive but no longer reliable.

Party of 4, two couples. Dining room was freezing like most other restaurants in the south in summer. Service was fair overall with too few servers. The maître d was great and the food was near excellent. The lobster bisque was exceptional, but the server had trouble portioning out the bisque between the four diners probably due to inexperience. Overall an enjoyable meal

Had dinner and the food was great but the service was terrible. We couldn't tell who our server was, waited 20 minutes for water when we sat down after being asked by three different people what type of water we wanted. Had to ask for a cocktail menu..3 people brought menus but after 10 minutes nobody offered to take our orders. Finally we got our drinks after 40 minutes. Trying to order dinner was awkward as again two people asked if we wanted to order but then we're irritated when we asked for specials. After telling us the specials the server left and we had to flag down to order. The somlier was incredibly rude and condescending. The dinner took 4 hours because of their disorganization. Many more service issues but food was great.

I've dined at Zebra many times before, but haven't been there in a while. Was celebrating a birthday with a friend and had a Groupon that needed to be used, so we chose Zebra. The meal was SUPERB in every way.....presentation, taste, etc.....everything was done to perfection. Our waiter, Chief, is so very attentive and completely knowledgeable about every dish. One could easily just give him free reign and say, "surprise me!" and be very satisfied!

Having been to Zebra before and having an awesome dining experience, my expectations were high. Upon arrival the reception was a bit rough in therms of confusion and delay. The bar area could have been more inviting with an offer of a drink. After waiting 15-20 minutes (with no interaction from staff in between) we were finally seated. The food was good, but portions were a bit small for the appetizers. Overall the food quality was excellent. Management team was engaged, but the waiter was new (and nervous). Overall the experience was good, but not on par with past visits. I sense a downward trend that Zebra will want to work on improving service to reverse.

Save ZEBRA for "special occasions". Our dinner for 2 which included 1 bottle of wine & sharing 2 of their "chef specials", heavily promoted by our server/manager after we had already decided what we wanted from the menu (he also heavily promoted a $75 bottle of wine; I settled for a $46 NC Chard). We had time constraints which we made staff aware of, so when we got the chef special pitch we decided to just share the "specials" appetizer & NY strip steak. Hubbie had a few microbrews, 1 small dessert & the bill came to $152 after a $10 discount card was applied. Add a generous cash tip & you have a quite pricey 1 1/2 hr. meal. Rushing out, we forgot the credit slip with breakdown of costs, but we were a bit taken aback by the final bill.
