Diner Reviews
  • "Perhaps the best food we had in Washington DC area. Terrific place to dine."
    Dined on 4/13/2014
  • "Everything from start to finish was amazing. I am not even a huge fan of this type of cuisine, but have been changed after dinning here. The inside is beautiful and the outdoor dinning was perfect! We will defiantly visit Zaytina's the next time we are in DC."

  • "In general - the food was excellent! We tried several mezza plates and was thoroughly satisfied. The only dish that left something to be desired was the Spanakopita, but the restaurant immediately removed it from the bill. In all, I cannot wait till my next visit to Washington, D.C."

  • "We have been wanting to go to Zaytinya for some time and we finally didn and we are so glad we did. First off, the service was excellent. Our first round of drinks were on the house because they took so long. We appreciate the free drinks but honestly, they did not take that long. To us that was an indicator of high standards for service and that high standard is transferred to all aspects of this establishment. The food was amazing!! I don't have enought characters to rave about the food, all i can say is: Go!! Go today and have a great experience!!! I will say this, try the ocropus--it is excellent. The interior is beautiful. I loved the bright blue, and the white, it was like a snapshot the mediterranean."

  • "What a find! We had a wonderful lunch and even my fussy teenager liked his meal. Totally recommend this restaurant, since the food was delicious and the atmosphere stunning. Well done!"

  • "The food was really good and our server was great. We always had water and bread and our food came out pretty fast. I loved everything from the fries with garlic sauce to the hummus. The peach yogurt dessert with ice cream was very delicious as well. Loved everything!"

  • "We ate our way through Washington DC and this is one restaurant we considered visiting twice. The food, served mezzo style, will amaze, with each mini course even better than the one before. We loved the the red pepper spread with delicious cocktails, almost too pretty to drink... Our server helped us narrow our choices, because everything looked delicious. He guided us to 7 plates, perfect for the two of us. Be sure to get dessert. The yogurt and apricots is a grand finale you don't want to miss."

  • "My family likes to try "strange" foods. My cousin was here for GWU admit weekend, and I wanted to take her to a nice dinner that would really showcase that DC has as good of a food scene as Chicago. Zaytinya did not disappoint. We had the Octopus Siciliani and the Goat Moussaka, because she had never had goat or octopus, and she loved it. Every item we ordered was fabulous. Our server helped me choose a red that worked with fish and meat, which was extremely helpful."

  • "We booked the table very easily through Open Table for two out of town families. The restaurant was great in calling us to confirm they got the reservation, to reassure us that we would have a table for this large group. Two kids in our group were warmly welcomed by the restaurant staff. Food excellent, although on the light side. We were seated at a large group table, and much to our excitement, next to a table with Chris Bosch of the Miami Heat! What a thrill for everyone, and our kids could not resist asking for a photograph, which Mr. Bosch most graciously agreed. This meal was clearly the highlight of our visit."

  • "We dined at Zaytina on a Friday evening and were seated right away with our reservation. The food was excellent as always and we had excellent service. The waitress even brought complimentary sparkling rose at the end of the meal since we had mentioned that we were celebrating our engagement. Great experience!"

  • "The initial impression was terrible. It was due to a delayed seating. We waited at the entrance for at least 20/30 minutes. This was accompanied by an unnecessarily unfriendly hostess' attitude. Not a good start. However, after that initial challenge all that followed was very very good: the service was warm, friendly and useful in providing advice on orders. The food came promptly and... it was good."

  • "I really liked it and the food was great. I would really reccomend it."

  • "The 2-top closest to the door is a location sheltered from the roar of a full restaurant. We could actually converse. Highest marks to the food."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Outstanding food and service. High noise level and delay in seating - 20 minutes after reservation time - we're the only issues."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Service was excellent and food was interesting and varied. My chicken was rare(!) so the waitress removed my entire lunch for the bill! An extraordinary response!"

  • "Zaytinya's food does not disappoint! I came with five other people, two of which were from out of town and everyone loved it. The small plates were all distinct and delicious, I particularly loved the Goat Cheese, Honey, Pine Nut "dip", the lamb shank, and the lamb special, which was tender lamb over a roasted eggplant with thick, melted cheese. Zaytinya also has one of the best cocktails I've had in a very long time (and I'm usually a straight whiskey girl), the 3pm in Istanbul. Lavender infused mint tea, vodka and grapefruit with cardamom and sugar."

  • "I was here with a couple of lobbyist friends for lunch. Very nice trendy/power scene here. The $25 lunch is definitely a deal. Everything's small-dish style so you don't feel full after lunch. Don't think it was that loud for a business lunch, but then again I might be used to the noise growing up in a big city. Service was amazing, very attentive. Overall great experience."

  • "Excellent food. the selection was perfect. Seating was immediate. Overall the atmosphere, service and food is top notch."

  • "Familiar with much Mediterranean food, we ordered some favorites. The Baba Ganoush, tabbouleh, Octopus Salad, and seasonal mushrooms with Brussels sprouts leaves were each extraordinarily fresh and flavorful. The Lebanese Chardonnay complimented these dishes perfectly. We topped off the meal with a dessert comprised of apricots, yoghurt and yoghurt ice cream which was out of this world. Loved it and will return at the next visit to DC."

  • "Thanks for the great service and attention given to the scientific committee group. It was a wonderful evening."
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "Everything was wonderful! We had to wait for a few minutes because they were behind on reservations, but it was just enough time to get a drink at the bar and head to the table. Food was fantastic!"
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "Zaytinya is a good mediterranean restaurant, but not the best I've been to. The shared mezze is good, but be sure to go with people you know well or you're going to feel awkward sharing with them. I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that the entire menu is geared around the shared mezze dishes."

  • "I was dining with a friend who has a severe nut allergy, and she was extremely impressed that Zaytinya offered a special nut-free menu with many options to order from so she could enjoy all of the dishes without any concern. Having traveled in Turkey, she was also impressed with the Turkish wine selection. Our servers recommendations were excellent. We especially enjoyed the mushroom couscous and red lentil patties. Our only major complaint was the noise level which made conversation somewhat difficult."

  • "It's taken me years to getting around to eating here but I'm happy to see it's still very much worth the hype it had when it first opened. Every bite of every course was delish - and I'm not the biggest fan of greek food. The waiter started off a bit reserved and talked way to fast but we had an early table and I assume he hadn't warmed up yet. By the time we left he was cool. The decor of this place is beautiful as well; dramatic high ceilings with crisp white and blue decor with a contemporary finish."

  • "I'm a gluten-free diner and the waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. The cocktail menu is also a real treat -- I'd come back just for that."

  • "Zaytinya is my go-to place-to celebrate milestones, to thank friends and family, just to enjoy some great food."

  • "This was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The waiter was very helpful in selecting our tapas, and advised us well on how many dishes per person, and which ones were his favorites. He also kept an eye on our table, checking to make sure our dishes were well staggered andt hat we had received everything we ordered. The pita bread was free, warm, and delicious, and was constantly being replaced as soon as we finished our basket. Overall delicious. Our one complaint was that our reservation was for 7:45 on a Wednesday night, but we were not seated until almost 8:15. The place was overflowing and felt chaotic. However, the staff was apologetic, and upon complaint, we were treated to compimentary spreads. Overall great!"

  • "A foodie's Bday has got to be special. Zaytinya did not disappoint. Diner was the following; Octopus Santorini, Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Garlic Yoghurt, Tzatziki, Grilled Haloumi Cheese with Dates, Roasted Goat Moussaka and to finish: Turkish Expresso Chocolate Cake and Walnut Ice Cream, and Yoghurt Mousse. Outstanding and amazing dinner"

  • "Whenever business takes me to DC I try and grab lunch or dinner at zaytinya. It's known as a great place and they continue to deliver food and service that matches their reputation. The wild mushrooms and the white beans, if they are on the menu, try them!"

  • "From the quotes, concept, staff and of course food, our party of four had a memorable and fun time at Zaytinya! We will definitely be back to explore more delights!"
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "We dined on a Sunday night at 8:00 and the place was packed. We had to adjust the time of our original reservation (by phone) and the staff was very accommodating; we were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. Zaytinya's was recommended to us by a waiter at another restaurant. Our party of 6 was not familiar with all the items on their menu and our waiter could not have been more helpful. We're all relatively adventurous eaters and after exploring our options we decided to go for the Chef's Choice meal (at $55/person). Every dish was excellent and they just kept bringing more. By the time the desserts arrived we thought, "no more" but they were so good we finished every bite. The food and experience was well worth the price!"

  • "I'm normally not adventurous when it comes to food but I picked this restaurant did a work lunch to try something different. It's very unique tapas. Mostly Spanish menu- I couldn't pronouce most of what we ordered and didn't really know what was going to arrive but it was all delicious. Tomato soup was divine and huge. Mussels delicious and the lamb meatballs a must. The bread they being with oil is so yummy."

  • "We went for my sister's birthday--had an 8:15 reservation. We were not seated till 8:45 which was disappointing, but the manager made it right by bringing us immediately--3 appetizers that were so wonderful. The rest of the meal was great. Good wines (my fave Retsina), wonderful and varied small plates. Loved the Brussels sprouts, lamb kabobs, calamari. All around a wonderful experience."

  • "If you visit D.C. this is one restaurant to include on your list. I loved the small portions much like a tapas restaurant. I was able to taste a variety of dishes maximizing on the dining experience. We were a total of 3 and ordered 9 small dishes which was the perfect amount. The dessert was also fantastic. You definitely need reservations on the weekend."

  • "We have eaten at Zaytinya several times and know enough to make a reservation a week in advance due to its popularity. We are also always pleased when outdoor dining commences as inside can be very noisy. We ate outside this time and enjoyed a wonderful quiet meal and some extra heat from the lovely tableside heater. The crispy brussel sprouts are irresistible as is the red pepper dip. Both outstanding. Each dish was tasty and well prepared. The service was excellent and fresh warm bread appeared as soon as the previous basket was emptied. All in all a superb dining experience. We also love the wine selections."

  • "Zaytinya has always enjoyed great reviews for dinner and lunch, but we recently had Brunch there and it was great. Everything on the regular menu was available, but there was also a special brunch menu with Greek pancakes, Turkish French toast and regional breakfast items like patatas with sausage. Great food and service."

  • "(which, actually, I don't), make a beeline for Zaytinya. The vegetable and fish/seafood dishes particular are superb. This is a "small plate" only restaurant so leave the non-sharers in your life at home."
